The idea of an engineer repairing by driving by just does not work right from a game play standpoint. All I see are two to three tanks and APCs driving around raping a map. The engineer should be required to get out and fix the vehicle. What do you guys think?

Re: Engineers Repairing in Vehicles
I agree with Talus...have you put any time in as an engineer?
One major disagreement I have with your proposal...TK's would hit an INSANE level if this happened. My reasoning?
1. When you hop out of said vehicle to repair it - not only is that a target for an enemy, but friendly as well. The little X in the box goes away and friendlies see it as an enemy.
2. Hop out to repair your neighbor's tank...neighbor does not know you are there is startled by a troop running up to him and kills you...OR...he fires a shot and his tank moves just a tiny bit and he TK's you...OR...he just runs you over as you try to repair...no matter how you slice it - TK's are bound to happen.

Re: Engineers Repairing in Vehicles
What could be done is that the vehicle repairs, but slower repair growth than if the person would hop out and repair it from outside. Repair points wouldn't be awarded if the vehicle is repaired from inside but repair points should be easier to acheive from repairing outside.
Thats my 2 pence

Re: Engineers Repairing in Vehicles
As an aspiring tank whore
, I concur about leaving it alone. If you are up against an equal or near equal team it doesn't make a difference being able to repair from inside the vehicle. It is your armor column and AT guys versus theirs and it tends to be a wash. The only time a raping can occur is if the opposing team doesn't know how to work together with armor, engineers and AT. But the same can be said about any kit or vehicle (air or ground). If the team you are on is weak in teamwork and vehicle use ,a superior force will own you. That is as it should be. If you look at my stats you'll see that I know a thing or two about being on the losing & dying end of unbalanced teams
I feel your pain about that end of things, but I wouldn't change the game in an attempt to even it out. Inexperienced or unorganized teams should lose to a better team.

Re: Engineers Repairing in Vehicles
goddamnit. One of the most useful additions/improvements that happened with BF2, and you are complaining?
Learn to adapt and play the game. It's because of whining EA already ****ed over a lot of people in this game, don't give them reason to **** any more of us over.

@ Talus
You're right. Faster, more intense and interesting gameplay over points anyday. Andtbh it is generally fine the way it is. Worst things that happen is when a teamate steals the tank you were repairing. I think it's safe to say that if someone is repairing a vehicle and theres nobody inside it, most likely they are repairing THERE OWN vehicle, and thats about the only time a vehicle is truley 'theirs' imo.
Anyone reading this, don't steal vehicles whilst being repaired.

Re: Engineers Repairing in Vehicles
Man, am I with you on that one. It would be awesome if they could raise the repair point rate by about 1.8 or so... but leave the amount of time to repair the same. In other words, If you fully repair a tank/APC/asset, you'd get 1.8 repair points. Make that just for repair points. Leave the time it takes to wrench a vehicle/asset the same.Originally posted by TalusIf anything..they should SPEED UP repairs or at least the rate of repair points.
I have over 100 hours as Engineer, and still cannot achieve the expert repair badge. I wonder how many have gotten it legitimately and how? I witnessed a pair of people on opposite teams blowing up/repairing arty until the Engineer got expert, but couldn't get screenshots (I have never been able to take a screenshot on BF2, no matter what key I use) of it to prove it. I wrote their names down, but with out proof, forget it. Let's face it, getting 25 repair points in ANY round is extremely difficult. I've flown in the BH through the last two patches, wrenching the entire time, having not been shot down, only to have around 16 repair points at the end. In order to stay alive, all backseaters were Engineers too, so, you have to split the repair points with them. Being a lone Engineer in a BH, you cannot repair fast enough to prevent getting shot down (in normal circumstances)
Dice/EA, consider raising the rate at which you gain repair points! I'd even take a 1.5! At least make it more possible!
P.S. BeerStein, could you share with us on how you got the expert repair badge?

Re: Engineers Repairing in Vehicles
I play engineer almost exclusively. I love the class. When I play on public servers, people love to have me on thier squad. I don't mind driving behind an amored column in a jeep, staying right on my squad leaders ass who happens to be in a tank. The enemy typically can't see me in the jeep as I am directly behind the tank. He is constatly being repaired by me. My best moments in BF2 have happenend when I get a squad of engineers together, and we move about in armored columns. Engineers are all about teamwork.
I love playing base defense.
I find great satisfaction in driving around in a jeep to vehicles on my team who need to be repaired.
I lover hearing everyone say "Thanks, Champ" when they are done being repaired and I drive off.
It is a class people appreciate when you help out the team.

Re: Engineers Repairing in Vehicles
Was part of a game on Karkand last night where we had 3 engineers in armor working together. It was a thing of beauty. You're right about not seeing it often though. I'm so used to see things being a free for all on pub servers that I started to head into the fray by myself. Then the other armor dudes said "hey jackass, let's work together". Music to my ears. We stuck together for the rest of the map. I'll have to remember it next time on a free for all and see if someone will take a hint and stick together.Originally posted by [SAF]derekliuif there are 2-3 armour moving from flags to flags togather, and all are engineers, this is wat i called teamwork ingame which i seldom see it online

Re: Engineers Repairing in Vehicles
Either make it easier to get repair points or lower the requirements for the badges and medals that involve repair points. When I play engineer it's usually because I'm using a vehicle. Because of that I tend to get pretty good scores when I'm an engineer, getting lots of kills using a tank or APC. I could almost accept that they don't want to make repair points easier to get if they are thinking along those lines that engineers can do pretty well points wise as a "vehicle class" (although this wouldn't account for medics who have points just raining down from the heavens). However, if they don't want to make repair points easier they need to adjust the medals and badges.
It's dumb that under the current system the First Aid, Resupply, and Engineer badges have the same IAR requirements. By far resupply is easiest to get and 25 points for expert is fine, people are always using ammo and just throwing bags at random people will get you the points. Healing points are the second hardest, as it requires people getting injured but still living long enough for you to get to them; 20 heal points would be about equivalent to the 25 resupply points.
Repair points on the other hand are just a joke, the Expert Engineer badge might as well be called the Expert Stat Padder badge, because the chances of getting 25 repair points during normal game play are almost nonexistent. Under the current system Expert Engineer should be no more than 15 or 16 repair points IAR if it is going to be equal to the difficulty of getting 25 resupply points.
The global requirements for the 3 badges needs to be changed a bit as well, 250 repair points is ok for Expert Engineer, but First Aid and Resupply should swap their global requirements (should be 500 heal for first aid and 750 resupply for the resupply badge, instead of the other way around). The Meritorious Service medal requirements should also be altered to fit with the difficulty of each aspect; maybe keep resupply at 1000, lower heals to 750 or 800, and put repair points at 500.

Re: Engineers Repairing in Vehicles
In BFV you needed to have eng's on the back of the tank or up to 3meters behind and that was very very frustrating to just sit their with a wrench, no action, and an easy target. It isn't very fun for a person with the attention spand of a nat which is around the same as an MTV viewer. But i note that this can still be done in the tanks like the bradley linebacker so it doesn't always get screwed by being forced to stay in one spot while getting repaired by a buddy. So in a way they have made play more tolerible for any ver. of BF2 for an eng class by being more effective in a tank with friends and they have made a class like assault or AT a lesser choice when hopping in that tank because the user may not be able to stay alive as long as he/she would with a wrench or a friend that has a wrench.
