Quick Join Squad would actually be a gret tool. THis way the poor guys with 2 people in their squads can get them filled up faster.

How would a quick-join button be any better than just clicking "Join" for a squad? I've never heard a single person say, "I never join squads because it's too hard/confusing to click 'Join'."

That feature answers the question that nobody asked.

Case in point: The other day I was in a squad. I spawned on the leader who was on the hotel roof on the Oman map. We were being sniped and shot at by a tank and apc. All 3 of us were injured. I was a sniper. I asked the squad leader repeatedly to request UAV so we could at least see where the sniper was. He wouldn't do it. He had a mic so I could hear him. He was saying things like "I NEED A MEDIC!" I told him to request a supply drop because a medic would get wasted trying to get on the roof. He never did. I left his lame squad.

It was obvious the moron didn't even know what the T key was for.

The squad system is being used in ways that I suspect were not intended by Dice.

First off, yeah, spamming the create squad button is a work around to auto balance. Switch sides and immediatly create a new squad and you won't get swtiched back.

To prevent this, there could be a delay imposed on creating (or joining) a squad after someone has switched sides. That would give the server enough time to boot him back over to where he belongs if the teams are unbalanced.

The second way they're being used is through the tactics of squadhopping and squad cycling. I'm not going to pass judgement on the practice (since I do it myself), but I definatly think this was not how squads were supposed to be used.

Squad hopping is just lonewolfing while using various SLs as mobile spawn points. They simply leave their squad and join whichever one is closest to the action each time they die. It's handy, but it doesn't promote teamwork. Squads lose their meaning when they aren't cohesive.

Squad cycling is a way of keeping people in the field longer. If the SL dies, he imediatly leaves the squad and rejoins. Thus you can hand off the SL role to anyone who turns tail and runs during the fight.

I've got a solution to these issues if it's needed (and I'm not saying it is). It's sure to make lots of people scream, tho.
Disable the squad screen while dead. That would perty much end both these psudo-explotive tactics.

SLs can't leave when dead and if you wanted to hop to a squad that was closer to the fight, you'd have to spawn, change, suicide, then respawn on your new SL. That would perty much take the point out of it.

Come to think of it (this only just came to me now), it would solve the first issue too. Since people wouldn't be able to create a new squad while dead, they would automaticly have a 15 second respawn delay on 'em. That would cover the delay I mentioned above with NO aditional implementation.

Hmm... 3 birds with one stone. Not a bad tweak.

The only reason that I bring it up is that I hear pubbers complaining about it quite a bit. Almost no-one on these boards would complain, 'cause I think we perty much all do it. In fact, I'll bet a lot of them would complain if this suggestion was implemented. So... you're bound to annoy someone; pubbers or hardcores. Tough choise.

Sorry to drag you off topic a bit, but you did ask for thoughts.

I expect hatemail for making the suggestion.

Usually Ins, because I either make a squad right at the start when playing wth friends, or else i do quick ins-ret-ret and spam "need support" when going to cap a point behind enemy lines.

As noted before, quick leave squad -button would be appreciated, as it would be useful in certain circumstances (spwaning 10+ people onto a critical flag ).
There's too much point-and-click on the basic BF2 UI for my liking.

well they cant do that one as i need it to see where my teammates are on the map and who is in vehicals etc :)

When i'm playing with mates we all do the leave join squad thing to spawn on the new leader....i do think its more fun playing this way and get you back into the action....however its a bit unfair on the enemey when you just keep spawning in on their flag constantly....but i suppose they can do it too :)

I agree 100%, great idea to solve this exploit! :)
BTW I know a lot of "hardcores" who want the squadsystem fixed!
Most of the people who played BF1942 or BFV don't like that squadleader cycling exploit, because there are no frontlines anymore. Planning troop movements isn't important anymore. You can just spawn anywhere if you exploit the squadsystem to the max in conjunction with jets and helos.

                    Re: The "Create Squad" Button

Hrm. I'm suprised the suggestion hasn't sparked more debate.

There's one additional tweak that would be required to make this a valid suggestion:

You should still be able to join/create squads before spawning the first time per round. If you couldn't do that, a lot of the pre-organization that goes on at the begining of a round would go out the window. Some servers have extended times to wait before the round starts, specifically so people can squad up 'n stuff.

The more I think about this, the more I like the idea. It would be a pain in certain situations, but overall I think it would have a positive impact on the way that squads are used.

Edit: Oh yeah, make sure the create squad button is disabled too! No need to "oops" and leave a workaround in place. :p

I hate seeing what could be a very important point slip through the cracks.

Because what you are saying is not true.

if you don't like it. you always can lock the squad and invite people
And also I am a squad hopper, and you know why I use the systeem.

because is a fast teamplay offer, to defend and attack a flag and support your squadleader.

                            That's why I'm doing it.

also about the teamplay and skills.

You are more aware what's going on the battlefield = skills
You can help somebody by taking the flag and defend = teamplay

and it give more action then instead walking a mile from a spawn point .

pre-organization? you are talking about public play you know!
                            It's more a clan feature

                            Also for example

squadhoppers are more teamplayers and skillfull people because like at strike at karkand.

this city is a raped city, you know! And because there is always somebody who can get of the raped area.

and make a squad. but the problem is. most people are not aware of this mobile spwanpoint and still get raped.

only the squadhoppers like me are always looking good at the map what's is going on so it's a very handy tool to use .

many ++++ effects for teamplay by defending and attacking a flag you know!

But about the create squad button will be a great tool because it will offer people more valua of dynamisch squad.

I mean by that you can ask for help, if you are in trouble and people can spawn fast and give you a help (teamplay)

and if the area is clear and the death people always can spawn to a other squad, where they are needed.

and also it give more fun and more fast action.

and also i don't mind to kill some spwanend members by a squadleader :p
Also if you put this in.

please let the maked squad leader see wich squad he maked.

(teamspeak can say wich squad he maked so it's easier, then looking who is in the squad)

also people who don't like this, can also make locked squads
so they have a group of people togethere.

                              sorry for my bad english.

They want to avoid to get switched to the other team by auto-balance.

If DICE really wants people ALWAYS to be able to spawn at their squad even if the squadleader dies - then please make it so that you can always spawn at the last surviving squadmember even if the squadleader dies, thus at least removing the hassle of opening the squad screen all the time to leave and join, that is just annoying but unavoidable if you want to be competitive at the moment.
