    The "Create Squad" Button

So I was playing this weekend on a 32 man server, and I kept getting the "Maximum number of squads reached" message. So I look and there's 8 squads created, 6 of which have only 1 person in them. I guess alot of people were hitting the "create" button when they joined. So it got me to wondering:

    Do people use it alot?
Do they use it so they can be a squad leader?
Or do they use it so they can be in a squad to help the team?
Would it be better if there was a quick join squad button?

    Other thoughts?

Quick join would be useful i think. Maybe that quick join should also have some algorithm that puts you in a squad that doesn't have a player with the same kit as you yet.

I think ppl mostly want to be in a squad because that way you can get in contact with the commander. Being in a squad sort of "puts you on the map"

But why ba a leader instead of a member?

      1. U can decide when and where to ask for supplies/UAV/arty
      2. U lack confidence in other squad-leaders' abilities
      3. All other sl's are playing sniper, sitting in a attack-chopper or jet so U think that they are not capable real teamwork
      4. U get to boss ppl around
      5. U dont want to get autoswitched to the losing team
      6. U are going for some medals that require time spent as a SL
      7. Some ppl think a squad is all about the leader and there's just a bunch of guys called members assisting him instead of the squad being an organic group of ppl that all benefit from each other

P.S. Congrats for the Olympic gold in Ice-hockey

        Re: The "Create Squad" Button

I normally only play on my own server, so I join the clan squad (or start one), then when members come and go they just come into the squad.

We usualy start up a squad, and work as a team. We talk to the commander and amongst ourselves,.

On a public server its hard to get a squad working together, but if you go squadleader then just invite people to the squad and TALK to them via voip NOT TEXT, introduce yourself and then LEAD them.. it works pretty well.

A "leave" squad button would be nice for competition :)

I think some sort of score punishment should be in order for people who don't join a squad

PS ace avatar fantomas :P DON'T WE MAKE YOU LAUGH?!

I know my brother joins or creates a squad ASAP in Battlefield 2. Anyway, I become SL if it seems I have a good set of people playing or friends or sometimes I just make a squad just to hear commander orders. I know most top players constantly swap squads to get to a position their SL is at.

                Re: The "Create Squad" Button

better too have too many than not enough squads
as commander - I issue squad commands constantly
not to spam - but in rection to realtime events
I even LOVE it when my jets/helos have their own squd numbers
I can direcetr them to flags under attack, and as they are excellant bombers - they get sores of defend flag points

in fact - the WORSE thing is a squad with too many players
IF - they are not geographically close to each other
as commander - all I can see are squad leader numbers
and if I give him an order to do something 'close to him'
and he accepts - this relays the order for guys who are across the map

                and yes - suggestion above
would be greaa to have a quick leave squad button
like the quick 'make a squad button'
our better players are constatnly chaning squads in game to spawn on the action

In my opinion, this got worse after they introduced the change whereby you don't get autoswitched if you're a squad leader. It was NOT at all a problem before.

If you wanna join the other team, click that team's tab and them IMMEDIATELY hit the insert key to create a squad. Bam..you're locked in to that team.

Interesting "exploit". What I don't understand is why the game lets you switch over and suicide and then switch you back. All you get is -2 (or whatever). How hard can it be to put the suicide after it checks if the team is full?

The only reason I play squad leader is because when you need backup (e.g taking a flag, defending a flag), then people can spawn off you and give you a hand. Makes all the differenece sometimes!

Dunno..but when I play with friends, we like to be on the same side and squad. So we'll do this to get on the same team. But we don't leave it as 1 man squads...once we're all on the same team, we form 1 squad.

And yeah..it drives me NUTS that it lets you switch and then suicides you and give you -2 points and then switches you back. But, I guess it's a deterrant because they don't want everybody doing it.

                          Re: The "Create Squad" Button

I think alot of people play squad leader because it is a very interesting and useful feature of this bad-@ss game. I spend most of my time as a squad leader due to many reasons mentioned above. I like being in touch with the commander who can see what i cant see and help my squad out. nothing better than camping a post for defense when 2 enemy squads flood in, you call in an artillery strike and wipe the main group out, then rush in and make dessert of the left overs, and retake your nutral post.

Demize you mention a "quick join button", isnt that what insert is? Or do you mean a quick join for a certain squad?

Sqaud work is the best way to acheive teamwork points, and learn how to work effectively with other players, and really the only way to succeed at winning a campaign. There really isnt much room for the "lone-wolf" in BF2. There are a million of them, but they are the people you see in the bottom 10 scores. Only Tank whoring, and jet spam are suitable for the Lone Wolf. Rarely am i commander and can call out orders to a jet or tank.

Most people become squadleder for the ribbon, they need 10h as squad leader, 10h as squad member and something else...

The more squad leaders the better, pub servers don't have enough coordinated people to have a chain of command from commander to squad leader to squad member. More often than not squads don't even stick together.

I'd prefer to have 9 individuals whom all of which I can issue orders to, than to have 2 full squads of which the squad leader is an idiot and never passes my orders down to his troops.

Coordinated games with medium to large squads are awsome fun (especially as commander) but they're few and far between.
