Yep I spot, not to excess though. I do it for myself at times so I can see where the enemy is on the mini map which gives me a better idea on where to go and how long I have. Ill definately spot armour in the hopes theres an AT or plane/heli about. Ill also spot the snipers for all the knife junkies. As commander Ill use the same spotting principles as well as spot a few stray infantry that may be taking a back route.
Having said all that, I was on Karkand last night and someone spotted an APC on the side water entrance (near the factory) I was swimming across the water at the time, cursing my bad luck. I changed my route to avoid it which took me longer only to have a squadie inform me as I was half way there that it was a false spot. Grr..Bloody Annoying!
I totally agree that spotting is extremly helpful to your team. I'll even spot armour that I'm about to try and C4. That way if I get squashed in the process i've at least warned other team mates of it's location. I had my 2nd run as commander today, an yes..I spotted. After reading some of the posts I think maybe a bit to excessivly. I will take what i read into account on my next attempt.
Regarding the posts on leaving enemy vehicles smoking on the battlefield I totally agree. That has always been a point of common sence..or so i thought... And if I can add..empty boats on wake Island..Please Please leave them intact. That Island is a long slow swim with a bag of C4.
Spotting is essential when it comes to vehicles, whether it be armour, jeeps, helos or jets. With the improved A2A it's become even more important to help your team by spotting enemy jets.
Even the odd lone infantry around a friendly base can be extremely helpful to spot for your team. Likewise the comamnder can help himself and his team by spotting any Spec Ops loitering round the team's assets and then encouraging a nearby squad to deal with the threat.
Always spot the enemy copter, if possible. This gives your teams copterpilot an advance in copter vs. copter situations because he knows not only where the enemy copter is at but also where it's heading.
Spotting tanks with sniperscope is sometimes "impossible" no matter how center of the screen the enemy tank is to you. It just says "enemy units spotted", which is a bit annoying.
I never risk my life just to spot an enemy tank/apcs but generally I always try to spot enemy units. Even single grunts too, if there's time.

This seems to be a distance thing rather than a sniper thing, i sometimes end up spotting a tank 2 or 3 times to get it, which is really annoying (and looks like you're spamming).
Also spotting through fences is impossible which sux big time.
Personally i like it when commanders ask a squad comprising a spec ops and a medic to 'Get repairs to this position,' then drop supplies on the enemy!
I command quite a bit and find it rare to look in the squad listing and see any wrench symbols for engineers. I'll highlight all squads and send the "Get repairs to this position" command so when any are killed they can respawn as engineer if they choose and repair the assets. If I don't get any takers and have a supply crate not needed elsewhere, I'll drop it on the asset. However, more often than not, the spec ops guy that blew up my stuff to begin with will just replenish his C4 using that supply crate and blow up the assets again.
