Guys and Gals ,

After much deliberation i have just brought a new PC spec as follows

Amd 4400
2 Gb Corsair Ram
2 * 6800 Gt in Sli
Asus 8 Mother board

Aha you say big deal. Well the first thing i ran on- line with it was BF2 and to say i was impressed would be the understatemnet of the year . After years of playing C&C Generals /Zero Hour i am a complete newbie to the first person shoot em up scene .

Im getting my ass whoped alll over the place at the moment and have no real idea of what i am upto !!! This forum seems a mountain of information but can someone tell me where to start and how to go about it .

Hey dude, i came from ccg/zh too, did/do u ever go to cncreplays (now gamereplays.org)? I started playing bf2 as well as zh a couple of months ago, I would suggestion just get expereience, practice, learn what class you like and which gun you like and what suits your play style. Play online its better expereince and therefore a better use of your time, you will get better quicker.

Dont care about stats, at least at first as they are obviously going to eb bad, so just experiment and have fun. Start a new account if you really want after you have learned the basics so yours stats dont suck :P

if it starts of with whining
then skip it
but many many fokd ask questions
and you get lots of good answers
also

read for fun
but i agree
play single player at least a week or so
then learn to use in game voice
and if you still need a mentor
drop me a PM and I will invite you into our server and you can join a squad with us

Definatley not a boring forum by the looks of things , just wanted some pointers where to start as i keep seeing Air lying in the grass .

Single player ????? What are you lot on about ???

Just jump straight in there mate. Points are points. So what is you get the $hit kicked outta ya. Ok, you stats will suck, but don't worry about that as people think that its a crime to pay interest in them.

No point in buying an online game to play it in single player, is there?

Get online. Jump in a squad and hang back like the private you are. Pick off kills from behind. Play assault, good around. Don't play sniper. Learn the pace of the game. Good luck. And try to not act like a bod.

You have brought back some memories of my newbie days for sure. I would start out playing the street maps, join a squad and keep up with the leader. You will get to know the maps and the rythym that goes with them. Keep alert and look far ahead(and behind), pick a kit that lets you have single shot, you aren't going to hit ***t with spray.

When you are about to go round a corner hit prone/A or D and you will roll down and your accuarcy will be spot on. I also try to stay away from the big fire fights and tend to flank alot, there will always smaller enemy groups milling around out there but watch out, they are prolly not newbie's, and they are deadly.

If you find that you have become squad leader and you die, leave squad then rejoin so that the next alive member will hopefully be able to stay alive and you can spawn on him. Sure beats running from spawn again.

Never shoot from a standing position unless you have to, it just isn't accurate. Crouch or prone as soon as you see a enemy, scope in and "BOOM HEADSHOT", lol.

Awww, the fun of a new map. Loved exploring, where everyone is new and scary. Learning where the kill zones are, where the safe paths are.

Or when your overlooking an area for 30 seconds, then spending the next 5 minutes crossing it. Only to learn weeks later, that no one ever goes there.

I envy the newguys.

i started off in singleplayer but then got bored and went into multi
i suggest you only go into singleplayer if you need to practice your chopper or flying skills so you dont make the team lose because you want to learn how to fly and theres some pro sound the corner who could be pwning their team

if you're new to first person shooters, here's something useful ;

Name "shooter" is sort of misleading, you can be worst shot ever and still do good .. the #1 thing to learn is situational awareness. Knowing the maps inside out - where you are, where you're going to, and where the opponents are. Fastest way to learn this is to pick medic or assault (they're the least "specialized" class - anything you learn while playing them is applicable to other classes), and just try to attack the flags constantly on reduced map cycle ("citymap" servers are great place to start). You'll get destroyed for awhile, but as long as you learn from your mistakes and you can do some creative thinking, you'll find ways to overcome.

I would say after sp the most important thing to do on a server is to get into a good squad. Teamworks (although rare) is your best friend. They'll help you get kills n' stuff and maybe you can steal some from them...just make sure you get the last shot in

Yeah especially if it's a Clan Squad (that isn't locked) usually they do good team stuff, well most of the time. The main thing with clan squads is that they stick togethor. Alot of things which squads don't do. Just sticking togethor does alot. Also, look at what kits the squad is using. Usually clan squads are balanced but if there isn't then before you join choose the kit that they don't have (UNLESS it's so that you choose sniper, don't bother joining a squad thats capping flags as sniper.). If you get me. Logical thinking works too. If they have Anti Tank and Spec ops but no support or medic, it makes sense to choose support instead of medic so that they basically have a near unlimited ammount of Rockets/C4's to take out any armour. And you have a good gun to take out infantry.

If you're looking to improve online then play online, always practice in the environment which you intend to play in, you'll learn the most.

Your main points of learning should be:

What weapons to use and when (what the team needs)
Where to position yourself
How to fire the weapons so they are most accurate for your needs
How to work in a squad
Learn the HUD, find out what everything means and learn to "read" the HUD anytime you're not in direct combat, it tells you a LOT
Learn the layout of the maps, the good camping spots, good spots for ambushes or choke points where its easy to defend.

Note a lot of these things aren't reflex skills, only small part of the game is your aim if you get the rest right.

Finally remember this is a team game and team points are what the name of the game is, this mean flags are more important than kills, try to work to help the team.

The only thing that I ever learned in singleplayer was how to fly. Everything else you can learn on-line and while you will get killed alot you will come out of it alot better trained. I couldnt beleive how good some of these people are but after a while you start to hold your own. I got about 80 hours of play time in and just managed to get my K/D radtio to go above 1 a few weeks ago. Practivce, Practice, Practice. Joining a good squad helps but those are hard to find on public servers.
