    Re: Punkbuster 'language filter'

I think it's the server admin's business whether he wants to have a filter or not. The filter helps cut down the namecalling idiots that fill the CS servers. If something makes you mad, why do you have to let everyone else know about it? do you think the teamkiller will stop killing or the newbie stop trying to learn to fly, etc. just because you used a curseword? Curse all you want in the privacy of your own home but don't make have to bear your hissyfits.

The words are real. The people hit by arty and flying through the air are not. There ís the difference.

You know I never understand the point of the language filter or the even "teen rating" of games like these. Not just this game. You have the same problem in CS, DOD, COD, FEAR, and so on. The main idea of these games are "killing". We, each of us, join a server everyday, to kill other players in the game. And don't give me that oh it's fun and oh it's nice to play an online game with 30 people communicating with each other.. I have been playing PC games long enough to know that the main theme of these games are to destroy your opponent. And that will ALWAYS include swearing, profanity, etc.
So does that mean you can hop onto a TBF2 ranked server and call someone a n*gger and get away with it and its acceptable?

Racist language on our server will get you banned so quick you won't be able to say it again.

Its not necessarily the swearing we have a problem with. Its the constant spamming of swearing and everything that comes out and abusive insults that we have a problem with.

As I said our language filter is very mild we dont have abreviations like, wtf, omfg etc. You can call someone a moron or idiot as long as you don't spam it over and over abusing guests we don't have a problem with it.

I mean most of our guys swear like troopers but we won't do it typing in game. We even swear a bit on VOIP or our TS but not to the extreme and not everything that comes out our mouths.

I like the example someone made about the pizza bar where you wouldn't go in and stand up and call someone a fvckin noob. Though if that happened I would have a laugh. It's doing it constantly though in public that gets annoying. Constantly calling someone a noob or a fvkin hacker everytime they die gets old real fast.

Maybe our language filter is just another reason why our server is so popular and full 24/7?

I support langauge filtering - and banning for cap / font size / color exploits.

I'm 44 years old and play BF2 with my 10 year-old son quite a bit. He doesn't exactly have virgin ears - and yes, he's probably a bit young for the game - but it gets old having to explain to him all the cursing and swearing and moronic flame wars that go on.

It certainly doesn't add anything to the game, in my opinion.

It's up to the admins as to what they put in their language filter. If you don't like playing on a server that is strict, don't play there. We are liberal with many things, but cussing and inappropriate names are not among them. We don't go so far as to filter words like "idiot" or moron, but these are used in a derrogatory manner and will get them kicked for being disrespectful, not for cussing.

Ok, if your 16 you'll be forgiven for not unstanding about respect. calling someone a moron can be just as offensive as swearing at someone. If an admin wants to promote friendly play, then they are perfectly within their rights to block offensive terms.

censorship wouldnt be needed if people had self-control and mutual respect. but they dont.

This is all true and in real public servers hosted by developers and other people, thats fine. BUT, in a server thats been paid for by private users, its up to them. This is their virtual home and guests should treat it with respect as you would in real life.

The fact is that although this is a war sim, you really arent at war.. the person who just shot you is not your mortal enemy and deserves more respect that someone you really are at war with.

It is not so much a need as the principle of it and the simple fact that you get kicked for saying things like assets or enemy is advnacing to the scrap yard...

The fact that the filter will filter out words that are in another word is the BS part...you can still say phuqin and not get kicked so what the phuq is the point????

Also I think people are a little to uptight and wrapped up in themselves these days...it is only a game and it is only a word if it bothers you that much then man you are in for a world of dissapointment either that or you dont get out much...

I think that the PB language filter should be deleted, in every game people swear, use 'slang' language and they like it. now PB has kicked me about 70 times for saying words like 'noob, n00b, omfg, omg, ffs, cheater, ... it's outrageous. why does PB filter in the first place? are people offended if i say 'omfg, you cheater! noob' or 'omg, don't TK me noob!' and things like that. even when i was enthousiastic 'omfg nice shot, you're no noob' at that' PB kicked me, i get one warning and then ... 'you got kicked by punkbuster' then I have to load the map all over again. (not that it takes long, but it's an unwanted pause from the game)

If PB fliters because of people may be offended by bad language, that's crap! if people are offended by that litle of swearing, then how the hell can they play BF2? headshots are cool, mass murdering with bombs is good, throwing C4 into the masses works great, even knifing someone in the head goes in BF2, but if I say the word 'noob' i get kicked. Even if I say a 'bad' word in a squad with some clan friends, or just friends, it gets me kicked!!!

I have lost medals, awards and a lot of points by this silly system.

I hope someone realises the idiotness (another word that got me kicked) in BP language filtering, pls post your comments, i do not want to make fun of BP in general, its a great protection against cheaters, but filtering our own language? no way!

Solution: make an option in punkbuster/BF2 to turn on/off language filtering, that way the curser doesn't get kicked and feels happy, while the person who might be offended by it just doesn't recieve the post
--> The admins don't have to decide what's good for us, but let us decide if we want to hear cursing

Please: no post like 'You have to behave on servers' because when you get raped 10 times in a row on karkand by a tankwhore, i know you've got the itch to type rants too

To protect my self from further harm, i have disabled the chat buttons, so i can't chat, nor sweare against my team or the others. amen!

~Robske007a, I apologise for bad spelling in advance
Amen baby! 100% agreement from me
