Pre-patch it was easier because you were able to prone and stand quickly as a knife fight would suggest...I got my expert knife a month ago =D

Now I need expert pistol...

Thanks everyone! I am still excited even this many hours after.

Big_sammy_b....Unfortunately I think you might be in a bad spot. If you are already at 30,000+ and a Master Sergeant you will 'not' rank up to First Sergeant when you get your knife badge. The knife badge has to be obtained before you reach 20,000 or the rank of Master Sergeant in order to be promoted to First Sergeant. That is why I was starting to get concerned about that badge. I had tried for quite a while with no luck and I was getting closer and closer to the 20,000 point deadline.

As for secrets....I payed VERY close attention to the UAV. Luckily we had a good commander so I spent about 60% of my time with my eyes glued to the red dots on the UAV radar. Specifically when I would start to get close to a guy I would pay attention to which way he was facing. I also did not sprint anywhere until I had a guy in my sights and I was making the final race toward him.

I did not go after a single sniper at all. I just went after whoever was close to me and I thought I could catch judging by the UAV. In fact 5 of my 7 kills were guys lying out with their PKM. I did catch a few PKM rounds to the face this way but all it takes is one swipe with the knife and they are done. In fact my 7th kill was a guy sitting in the north corner of the hotel flag (I’m sure you all know where I’m talking about) with his PKM. He was trying to cap it. Commander put a UAV on the flag as soon as it went neutral. I went up the ladder to get on the building roof north of the hotel so I could jump in to the flag area. I got a running start...jumped and as soon as I hit the ground we saw each other. He started unloading on me but I was just close enough that he couldn't get enough rounds in me before I could get to him. I hit the ground, took a swipe as a fatal bullet came hurling out of his barrel. We ended up killing each other simultaneously but I was so happy I got the badge I didn't mind dying for it.

Good work. Thereres nothing too it really, After playing 300 hours one day I decided to go for my Basic, I got it the first time I tried. After I decided to go for the veteran and I got it on a Karkand server, I then tried again for my expert another 2 times and got it on the same day. :) Just gotta believe in yourself.

I've been working on mine lately, only need it and Explosive Ordinance. I have like 60+ knife kills total and closest I've came was 5 kills so I know it's possible.

Why is everyone making a such a fuzz about the basic knife badge? I got it as PFC IIRC, now the expert one, now that was a challenge.

The best feeling i have is getting my veteran pistol and expert sniper at the same time. Man, that was awesome.

Man, I thought it was never going to happen! I never figured I would feel such a weight lifted from my shoulders but when I saw that badge pop up on the screen I yelled with satisfaction. The best part about it was that I already had my 50 required kills to get the vet so I skipped the basic all together.

Thanks for everyone’s threads about this badge. I did what everyone had collectively said which was to get on karkand as a medic. I was on a 32 man server that became full toward the end of the round but started with the minimum players. Before the round went "live" I ran around and scrimmaging the other players to prepare for my attempt at the badge.

Thank you for this post. after reading it i thought i'd go and have a try again for it, i've tried before and been crap with the knife so i gave up, i thnk the best i had ever managed was about 3-4 knife kills in a round.
I did exactly what you did and played medic on karkand 32 man server, it had already started so i wasn't that hopeful, and we got knocked right back to the furthest away flag, but i just kept charging around like a nutter, and what i was most suprised about was that it was pretty easy !! I got all 7 kills i needed for 9 deaths. And just as you said i got both basic and vet badges! All i need now is basic explosives and i've got all the bascis...... Come on 13 kills!

I got my expert knife badge on my first attempt!

WOOHOO!

I thought it was going to be one of the hardest badges to achieve. My good buddy Zombie was my medic, reviving me as necessary. I played assault, so I could use the flashbangs. They were the most helpful for me.

We were on Pimpshack server, Strike at Karkand (64 size), and we kept spawning at hotel as MEC. I would throw a flashbang down the alley next to hotel, towards the opening in the fence, then turn around to avoid the effects of the flash. Once it went off, I ran down to that area, to find the enemy laying in the corner trying to hide until their vision returned. Well, how easy it was to run up to them, go prone, stab, then move to the next victim. Most I was able to get on 1 flashbang was 4 in a row. I ended up having 15 knife kills and the enemy still had over 100 tickets, so I was thinking, damn! I'm really gonna get it! Well, we had lost all but hotel and gatehouse, and they had about 54 tickets left. I started to get worried thinking maybe I wouldn't get it. But 3 quick stabs after a flashbang, and there popped up the award!

Well, that's how I did it. When I tried to get my basic knife badge, I kept trying and trying and ended up having over 100 global knife kills. I finally got it on Sharqi, so I actually got my veteran badge at the same time as basic. After those 7 kills, I thought, man, 18 is going to be a b i t c h! I finally said heck with it, I'm going for it tonight. Well, the rest is history now.

Be patient! go up onto of low roof tops, so that you can see the enemy run by, and jump off behind them, and STAB! Don't forget those flashbangs!

Face it, you're going to die a lot! don't worry about shooting them first, then stabbing them, you won't get the chance! Keep the knife out at all times that you're not throwing flashbangs.

Now this guy really deserves the badge. No cheap tricks, just skill and abit of panic near the end (very normal to get abit sweaty on some of the expert badges)

I got my expert knife badge last night in a fast and furious melee at the Sharqi construction site. The 1.2 patch did do one thing - provided lots of snipers to shank.

The crappy part is that all of the battlerecorders are broken so I can't make a little video out of it. I'm very bummed about that.

Its the veteran badge I am having trouble with. I have quite a bit of knife kills...
