meaning in game or bf2 sites.

so why not just everyone post what they have.that way we dont have to add up every gun and weapon fired to see what we got.

lets all use the % bf2 gives us (nice level playing field)

I'm merely trying to explain that you can't add two percentages that have different total numbers. If this is how everyone is getting their percentages they are dead wrong.

Its not off topic when alot of poeple on the topic are using completely WHACK math to figure out their percentage. That's why, as stated above we should just use the %'s you get from bf2s.com

Thats exactly why I started this math lesson. They are adding all the accuracies and dividing by the number of weapons. That doesn't work.

mines like 20%, but thats because half the time if im waiting for a vehicle to respawn or if im just waiting to detonate c4 for a vehicle to come along, il shoot at the air.

I have %26, but thats ~4000 kills. Write your kills too. Certainly someone with 200 kills and %30 accuracty cannot be compared to the one with 5000 kills.

19% which is lower then most of you maybe it's because i suck and i don't snipe.

This number will get lower since i found out spreading 1.2 PKM is alot fun.

Your math does not account for the fact (mine didn't either) that, for example, carbines are inherently more accurate, that LMGs are inherently less accurate, or that sniper rifles fire far fewer bullets (on the average) than an assault rifle. Nor does it account for the fact that a sniper rifle bullet is "worth" more than an LMG bullet. It's completely insensitive to the distinctions in the samples it's measuring, and thus its value in determining aggregate effectiveness (as in this thread) is very low.

Let's use a simple example:

Sniper Rifle: 2,400 hits / 3,200 shots = 75% (well above average for the weapon)

LMG: 5,000 hits / 30,000 shots = 17% (about average for the weapon)

Using your math:
2,400 + 5,000 hits / 3,200 + 30,000 shots = 22% "small arms accuracy"

22% would lead anyone to believe that this player is a slightly below average shooter, when in fact he's an exceptional shot. He just happens to frequently use an inherently inaccurate gun in the LMG.

When we look in our thread and see someone's percentage, we aren't getting a realistic measure of that person's actual capabilities because we don't know how often he/she uses weapons that are inherently accuracte vs inherently inaccurate. There's nothing in your math (or BF2s' math) that accounts for these factors.

You count a 95 damage bullet from a sniper rifle as just as inherently accurate as a 19 damage bullet from an SMG - even though we all know that those projectiles and weapons are completely different.
