Re: What is your overall small arms accuracy?

K, I excluded the AT, Defib, Explosives, GL, HG, Knife.

Leaving only AR, Carbines, LMG, Pistol, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, and Sub machine gun (in my mind these are all “small arms”)

    77523
    47865
    43236
    17215
    9540
    4783
    12638
    = 212,800 TOTAL SHOTS FIRED

Total shots HIT with black weapons
    15129
    11339
    6597
    3722
    909
    1961
    2081
    = 41,738

    overall small arms accuracy = 41,738(Total Shots hit)/212,800(Total shots fired) = 19.6%

Your math would be to add the percentages for each weapon…
    20
    24
    15
    22
    10
    41
    16
and divide by the number of small arms, in this case being 7. Giving you….
    21.14 %

    Which is incorrect

I could be wrong, I hav'nt had to do this kind of math for over 18 years.
      Grenades too, take those out.
and knife AND Defib, which'll screw my 33% to around 7%
That is completely wrong man. I don't understand you guys think you can add percentages and then divide them by the total number of percentages.... It doesn't work that way. If you were to use carbines once and Assault all the time, those two percentages are WEIGHTED differently.

But your math doesn't weight them differently either. It just says "a bullet fired is a bullet fired" and it's completely insensitive to the individual accuracy of the gun used, and the time it has been used. Nor does it consider that carbines are, on the whole, more accurate than LMGs.

Neither calculation is perfect, but I prefer the one at bf2players because it factors in the fact (at least partially) that someone might be exceptional with a few guns and mediocre with the rest.

OMG dude you're missing the point. You CANNOT add two percentages and divide by two to get an accurate overall percentage.

Does anyone here other than me know how to do basic math? HELP ME!!!!

The POINT of "overall small arms accuracy" is that a bullet fired is a bullet fired.

By the way, BF2S calculates its accuracy wrong. Remember to add up all of your small arms percentages and then divide by the number of values - in this case, 13.
Rubbish. No one else is going by your method, so use the BF2S percentage like everyone else.

This makes you 27.57% (after the D point, anything over 50 is rounded up, so your really 28% )

For me, I am currently at 19.21%. This sin't bad when you consider that 1 month ago, it was at 16%, and I had 300 hours booked at that time. Now 1 month and 100 hours later it is up. When i first started, it was like at 9 %

Hi, Dominic. I'm not entirely sure what kind of problem you are
referring to. Certainly there are at least some situations where you
can average percentages. For example, if there are 50 questions on an
exam, and three students got 20%, 30%, and 40% of them right, then the
average number of questions they got right is 30%, or 15 questions.

I suspect what you are thinking of is cases where the percentages are
taken from different totals, in which case weighted averaging is
needed. For example, if I survey 20% of 50 people, and 80% of 500 other
people, then I have not surveyed (20+80)/2 = 50% of the total
                population, but:

                   .20 * 50 + .80 * 500 10 + 400 410
                   -------------------- = -------- = --- = 74.5%
                         50 + 500 550 550

The problem is simply that the percentages in such a problem do not
represent fractions of the same total, so they can't be added.
I get what you're saying, but your calculation is still wrong. And so is mine.

                    I get yer.
If I had a crappy 10% with Assault rifles and I shot 1 person with a Sniper I'd have a 55% accuracy, which is bollocks.
But then looking at the stats on a page is accuracy based on kills.
I can shoot people all day with the L96 and only take them down to 2 bars.
It counts kills, not bullet hits.
Therefore, the accuracy on the stats is worthless, and so is this entire thread.
Now I can wait for Lugal to tell me I'm right n get a sweetie ?
I could of course be wrong, and I'm not getting at the OP, it was a good thread, it's EA's fault for misleading people by calling it an accuracy score, when it's another K/D ratio.

If you read what your professor is saying... He is saying the exact same thing I was. Because percentages are taken from different totals, you cannot add percentages and divide.

Accuracy on bf2s and other stats sites are actually taken from the shots fired/shots hit, so they are accurate readings.

No they are not. Didn't you read the thing I just posted? When percentages are drawn from different totals, they cannot be averaged. Just the same, you can't lump all of the totals together since they come from different, distinct samples.
