You will get it eventually like it or not and it is pretty cool looking. I got mine when i went for my knife badges, unfortunetly for me at the time i did not know they had servers for pistol and knife only and people were smoking my as*. Good news though, i got the badge anyway

I got it by accident on gulf of oman as USMC, the MEC capture all the flags, and the carrier got raped bad. I had 5 kills at the end of the round, and 19 deaths, i finally manage to get the jet up, and as i start to pull up, my teamate on the other jet was coming to reload(from behind me), and crash into me. By the time i spawn again, it was awarded to me, i was kind of **** about it, but it doesn't bother me anymore.

i don't know why anyone would want this medal, its a reward for being crap! , the only possible reason for wanting it is just because "wow i've got a medal!" but again this medal is a reward for getting killed loads whilst not killing many enemies, my advice .... don't bother!

i disagree one can get a purple heart from valitoriously fending off superiour forces in many situations and being killed, but the fact is someone had to defend that flag 1 vs 6 or 7 to slow its loss so reinforcements could show up.

I have a few purple hearts mostly from fighting off spawn campers so my team can get a plane into the air and balance out the air power, and I am proud of them

In real life, the Purple Heart is honorable. In BF2, it's disgraceful.

I've never gotten it and look how long i have played

honestly though it would be a blue moon if it happened to me...because I 99.9% of the time get more kills than deaths

I wouldn't try to get it either. One day you'll probably have a really bad round and just get it without trying.

Personally, I look at the Purple Heart as an award for perserverance. You're getting owned, but you're not giving up.

The first couple of times I got it (I think I have 5 now), it was for being crap, but it was early on in my BF2 career, but I fought on. The rest of the times, like most recently, my team was just getting raped/owned by the enemy, but I carried on, and kept fighting.

I like to think of it as an award for not giving up. There are lots of people out there who leave a game or switch teams because they are doing badly and don't want to mess up their precious Win/Loss ratio.

We'd all be better off without "Global Score". Leave everything else.

interesting idea no global score but then we would have to make diff requirments for promotions eh? i could go for this

Had a bad night, i was like an artillery magnet. Died, respawned, hit by artillery, respawned, shot by spawn camper, respawned elsewhere, hit by atrillery again and rinse and repeat. Got the purple heart just after a while. Was feeling ****ed but just carried on the game.

I've gotten many purple hearts. Where do I start? Bad nights.. team killers (grr).. spawned on squad leaders who like arty showers.. getting armor raped on uncappable spawn points.. getting owned by helicopters.. getting owned by dolphin diving, bunny hopping turds pre 1.2.. getting C4ed while repairing commander toys.

IMHO purple heart says that you are team player. I think those *without* it should be shamed.

I been playin a few months and neva got the purple heart medal, only reason I have one was coz i honestly got maself killed to get one since my only other medals r gold silver and bronze :p

It's a medal, you either get it or you don't, humiliation or disgrace its a medal, if you have every medal but the purple heart you would have to get it sometime (if you wanted every medal).

I got mine the first day I played BF2...I had a crappy round which I still have alot of just not that bad. I thought it was cool until I realized it was a reard for getting your butt handed to you on a platter.
