Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

I think the reason I like this patch is best described how I play the game. PW's tactic was simple, kill, kill, kill.

I never played like PW, maybe you can justify the baserape, I don't want to be too dramatic but for me there is no honour in it. The thing is, on Oman as US my plan is always hit the hotel tank, take AA hopefully this clears the way for ground troops and our chopper, then we will take the hotel. It doesn't matter if there is anyone in the tank on on that AA position, if their both gone or damaged, that will do. I never saw PW do anything like this once.

Now if I was PW then straight to MEC base, well these days your going to have to flare, once you flare on their turf if your spotted your dead.

That's how the game has always been for me, very very tactical, I don't do it to dogfight, I don't do it to bomb. I just move with the team, and hope the can secure the important stuff and we can win.

Mind, I think we'd be better pushing EA to try and address the J10 issue we're more likely to end up in agreement over it.

You will most likely get a higher KD in the air then you ever would on the ground. But that is the point of all vehicles (except the transports) they are force multiplyers and they are scarce.

Are you arguing against tanks and AFV's with the same premises?

Everything is easy once you know how to do it. I could barely hit the ground when flying in the demo. Now that I'm somewhat proficient I can be pretty certain of a kill when flying a fighter jet.

EDIT: I can't however say that I've become more proficient with the post 1.2 AA since I first played with the patch.
      Look for plane.
      Jump in AA.
      Wait for flares.
      Fire.
      Run away.
      Wash rince and repeat.

That is basically all there is to it with the AA.

Bombing video? Surely you mean Baserape Video. Ha, ok fine. Let's just ignore the fact that he went after helos in this "bombing video" yet couldn't be bothered with the jets aside from a feeble attempt at a bomber that was flying nice and straight for him. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the defenselessness of the target.

Even as a bombing video it and he both sucked. He routinely overthrew the second bomb that could have easily been thrown correctly to hit the other enemy units nearby. He routinely fired way off of the AA guns with his cannon taking way too long to eradicate the threat. If he had any skill at all, they'd be dead before they even heard his engines, much less started locking. He passed on tons of enemy targets taking his bases and opted for the baserape instead. He passed up on APCs that he could have easily taken out with his cannon on a single pass(except for the few times he tried to bomb a few without having any bombs to drop like a tard).

He can hide behind his K ratio all he likes but it means jack shit when its from a 1.12 baseraping PointWhore. I've said it before and I'll say it again - people who don't suck don't bitch and whine.

OMG, look at his uber1337 dog-fighting skills. he comes up behind 2 planes and LOSES TRACK OF BOTH OF THEM. ROFLMAO. the only planes he shoots down are the ones taking off the runway. did anyone notice how effective the 1.12 SAMs were? OMG, he really had to perform some uber evasive maneuvers (like flying straight toward them LMAO) to shake them off. wow, he is the "best" pilot, no wonder DICE had to noobify the game for us lesser mortals.

Kattspya, of course that's all there is. How else do you foresee ground forces dealing with the air threat? TOW's work fine against tanks as they're slow moving. Trying to fire something like that at jets isn't practical.

Regarding your points on Armour and APCs, at least they were susceptible to many other game elements - AT kit, AT mines, C4, other Armour or APCs, TOWs, helos and jets.

Maybe having the choice to manually crontrol the missile ala DC? Of course it's something that isn't going to happen untill Desert Conflict, but it surprises me how DICE couldn't take notes from the best mod BF1942 had to offer. It took timing, skill, and no one thought air-air (or ground-air defense) combat was retarded (though the mirage did have one ace up its sleeve).

How about just keeping your crosshairs centered on the target for a set period of time before achieving lock?

My wish would be the autocannon on the linebackers/tunguska to rip a plane to shreads in only a few hits. A lead indicator wouldn't hur either.

If we sink into really excusing details, that incompetent jet didnt pose a threat to his teams armor, as the chopper would have been. If youre going in the direction of the target in such a small map, you have 6 missiles and 600 rounds, you know youre going to bomb other spots- but will you really miss the target? Give it a free ticket off? Ive mostly let the jets take off because of a meaningless "honour" thing, same with choppers. But from the simple "my team wins" perspective, you wouldnt let that chopper up if it was on your course. Most of his flight was againts ground targets such as APCs, Tanks, Infantry near flags, and buggies. The few baserape runs, although shameful, arent something that would make the guy be worthy of insults. I dare to say that every player who has flown a jet in BF2 has crossed the main base and tried to attack it.

Even as a bombing video it and he both sucked. He routinely overthrew the second bomb
Actually he switched to single bomb mode 3-4 times I think. Something that 90%-95% of the pilots never do.

that could have easily been thrown correctly to hit the other enemy units nearby.
If you aim for the target, youre going to hit it with the first bomb. Unless you make a diverun (which is painfully time and effort consuming) the second bomb will always miss. If you try to splash-hit with the damage inflicted by bomb bombs in a non-dive-run fashion, you will not kill that tank/APC.

He routinely fired way off of the AA guns with his cannon taking way too long to eradicate the threat.
Erm, youre desperate. He took out the threat. ms here, ms there, whats the problem? The problem is that you could even find holes in the Gods socks. Youre the problem.

If he had any skill at all, they'd be dead before they even heard his engines, much less started locking.
Actually no. Most of the time when Ive used the AA, the jet is in the lock-on zone when it kills me.

He passed on tons of enemy targets taking his bases and opted for the baserape instead. He passed up on APCs that he could have easily taken out with his cannon on a single pass(except for the few times he tried to bomb a few without having any bombs to drop like a tard).
Throughout my extensive practice I have never achieved a 100% kill rate with machine guns against APCs, not even 25%. Again, youre looking for some mistakes which nature is beyond your comprehension. Youre just desperate.

Well, the way I see it, you just did sucked, bitched and whined.

Yes, all the time. If I manage to get in a bomber, and there's no one else around, I'll take off immediately, then create a squad so a person can spawn in and we can talk if necessary. The TV missiles are accurate, and you're less likely to incur TKs (important on EA UK servers, they have a 4 tk limit which is carried over from round to round), or hit a target you may not usually try for, like a tank in a base, mowing down friendlies.
On several occasions my copilot has managed more kills than me, often up to 30 kills even in post 1.2 skies... Flying this way does take some forward planning and observation for potential ground threats, and I find it very rewarding. The copilot is usually grateful of the points and action.
There's no need to fly low and slow, just line up from far away and swoop down, reducing throttle a little, then zoom up into the clouds, circle and repeat. I generally keep my bomb load for multiple targets, a base which has just been taken or the flag turned neutral.

For what everyone calls a "bombing video," it did seem a bit sparse on actual bombing. Otherwise, some nice kills though I do have to give a hearty Nelson "HA! HA!" for the fact he lost track of a bomber twice; not only that, but the first time it was not only re-arming, but injured. In his defense though, if he was running fraps on anything but a monster, his framerate must have been uglier than a aging tijuana prostitute. That alone will definately affect anyone's 'A' game.
