say your goodbyes and i'll say mine. until then or until i get banned, expect to see me here in this thread.

btw, still waiting for you to reveal your game handle. you seem to be oh-so-knowledgeable about all aspects of bf2, so don't know why you're hiding that.

      Chris,

You've made some good points, but planewhore is pretty much done methinks. I'm not knocking his ability, as flying like that is not easy, and some of bombs were nicely placed, not everyone can do it, but come on he started this thread complaining about the death of dogfighting and then we see a vid where he basically elects not to do any AT ALL.

I think you'll find in a few weeks every good pilot will move with his troops on the ground, you go in to far to hostile airspace and your toast. So the players on the ground then get cover and you've even got a vested interest in them securing that all important point.

Bottom line right or wrong the days of the 100+ kills by flying over three manned AA sites and then proceeding to baserape are over.

      This is 1.2:-

It was awesome the players on the ground moved right across the beach one step at time, an APC and a tank even came back to defend the hotel. Their fighters tried to baserape, I had to laugh, you won't even be trying to do that in future. In the end the were coming in trying to bomb, and take our chopper out, ignore a fighter and you die. Less skill? I don't know so much.

I mean you say all you have to do is get behind someone wait for flares and fire, well I think I've downed about 100 planes since the patch and I've been shot down by a plane, it could be six, maybe it's seven.

The main problem is that You and Wargimp are concentrating on the fun coming from defensive side of the new dogfights (fear of death, sorta), while I personally am interested in the offensive side of it. Im interested in tracking that jet for "ages" while most pilots expect quick kills from dogfights. I have also agreed that its a whole new world out there now, but whether or not I like it, its my oen personal preference

Bottom line right or wrong the days of the 100+ kills by flying over three manned AA sites and then proceeding to baserape are over.
Definitely, and thats only a good thing. The problem arises when a pilot has zero chances of survival post missile launch, which, next to the lowering of the dogfighting challenge are my two biggest issues with 1.2.

All well and good, but they still shouldn't have taken all the fun out of air to air battles. Going after an enemy plane is about as fun as climbing up a ladder: you walk up to it, hold down forward for a while, then BAM it's over.

As have I, but that's about how it was before, most of the people flying (That I've seen) either suck horribly, or were only good for bombing/strafe runs. The few I've seen that were worth their salt were what made flying fun. Now it's just dull all around. Since 1.2 I've moved mostly to SF infantry maps. Flying on a large map with skilled players used to give me an adrenaline rush and wrist pain at the end of a round, now it's just wrist pain. Oh well, at least I'm helping save myself from getting an RSI quicker by laying off the joystick.

Re: Highway to the Boredom Zone, a pilots perspective on the 1.2 patch

I recorded a flying session a couple weeks back soon after 1.2 came out and am planning on including it with a comprehensive tutorial for people who are interested in learning how to fly effectively in BF2. I'm not claiming to be the best BF2 pilot by any means, but I do know how to support my team.

The video was recorded on the infamous MoonGamer's 24/7 Gulf of Oman server where uncappable basecamping is not permitted. I fly the Mig-29 for the MEC and eventually get shot down at the end of part 3 when I fly a little too close to the USMC carrier.

You can find the video here: http://graphicintegrity.net. It's a three part segment each weighing in at around 50MB. Recorded with Fraps and encoded with Divx.

Edit: Your comments and criticism are welcomed. I know I'm not perfect, but I do my best.

Edit 2: There may be parts of the movie that are choppy. This is due to me running the game at 1920x1200 with 4x AA. Fraps seems to bog my system down pretty badly at such high resolutions (recorded at 960x600 @ 30fps, if I remember correctly)

No Wargimp, I never said that, so stop misquoting me you arseface. What I did say however, is I won't bother going after a ****ty pilot, because that's a good thing for me and my team, and would be a waste of my time.

I have thousands upon thousands of air to air kills in 1.12, and my average dogfight lasted I'd guesstmate around 20-30 seconds before the enemy plane was destroyed.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the defenselessness of the target.

Even as a bombing video it and he both sucked. He routinely overthrew the second bomb that could have easily been thrown correctly to hit the other enemy units nearby. He routinely fired way off of the AA guns with his cannon taking way too long to eradicate the threat. If he had any skill at all, they'd be dead before they even heard his engines, much less started locking. He passed on tons of enemy targets taking his bases and opted for the baserape instead. He passed up on APCs that he could have easily taken out with his cannon on a single pass(except for the few times he tried to bomb a few without having any bombs to drop like a tard).

He can hide behind his K ratio all he likes but it means jack shit when its from a 1.12 baseraping PointWhore. I've said it before and I'll say it again - people who don't suck don't bitch and whine.
All of you people commenting that my video doesn't show enough dogfighting need to shut up, read the rest of the thread, and then comment when you understand the context of the video. Also understand with that video, my score and even my performance was greatly effected by running FRAPS. I've only got what you'd call nowadays an "average" computer with a 6600GT, 80gig SATA HD, gig of ram, and a Venice Core. When I turn on FRAPS, everything becomes more difficult for me to do, and my FPS drops from 80-100 to 29.99 to accommodate the recording. I fell short of my usual score on Gulf of Oman which is around 80-0 and I'm much more precise and exacting in everything I do without FRAPS running, but I still put up what I'd call a passable performance and good enough to fulfill the purpose of the video, and at least good enough not to torture myself spending another entire round lagging.

Any ways, on the actual purpose of the video:

It wasn't a bombing video, nor was it a dogfighting video, but rather as I've already stated it was what I would describe as a "maximum impact" video. I made this video because I got literally hundreds of PMs and requests in the live forums asking for me to make this exact video after I made mention of the potential to make one to teach inexperienced pilots some basic technique. Since I've released that video I've got hundreds more emails, and PMs from people thanking me and saying that my video helped them become a much better pilot. Mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned.

Important things to watch for in the video: The enemy chopper and bomber were grounded nearly the entire game (ask any CAL league player what the number one priority for the planes are and I guarantee they'll say the same thing). I focused on destroying vehicles, AA (to keep myself safe), and defending against flag captures in my spare time.

Why should I go after the MiG pilot? Give me one good reason; The score of the MiG pilot at the end of the round was lower than the score of the average infantry on his team. If a unskilled enemy is in the air with one of the enemy teams airplanes, I always ignore them. It's just the culmination of the experience telling me that it's better for them to live, than die.

The bomber on the other hand of course, even a newbie can kill with that things, and kill lots of people. So that's why I destroyed it and made it my highest priority to keep it destroyed.

If you find the planes boring now, don't fly them. Leave then to people who will enjoy it.

PW I'm not going another round, I'll say your right if you want, yes that'll do it you win, here have a free 10 kills on the house.

I have to say I haven't used these forums much, I don't know why, even though it's 40 pages it's still quite civil, and I've learnt a fair bit, it got a bit ropey in places but never really kicked off.

I've a mind to start three new threads with all the side issues raised, would that be spam I wonder.... I'll start with one.

No, I'd say that I take my entertainment way too seriously is the real problem here.

I mean lets face it, DICE screwed the pooch this patch. Let me count the ways, actually I'll save us all some time and point on the biggest mistakes that I've experienced thus far.
                              • Turned every city map in to unlimited indestructable claymore hell (wtf?)
                              • Nerfed helicopters so badly in the health and armor department that they die in less than one dime-a-dozen mounted MG overheat (wtf?)
                              • Made AA missiles that never miss, so good infact that they can turn 180 degrees at 5000mph in 1 square foot of airspace (wtf?)
                              • Turned the support class in to the fully automatic sniper class. Made one gun (PKM) so good that any one that is using any other gun (besides the medic kit) either uninformed or just plain stubborn.
                              • Failed to do anything about point-blank noob tubing, though with the PKM whores now at large I'd consider that balanced.
                              • Red name tag bug still exisits
                              • AT missile now completely fail to fire, or pass right through the attended target even more often than in 1.12.
                              • Turned the BlackHawk minigun in to the biggest joke weapon ever. So bad you can be in a perfectly still hover, fire off rounds till it overheats, and still fail to kill a perfectly still soldier 100 feet away.
Then, of course the topic this thread is all about, plane related failures from DICE:
                              • Made AA 100% guaranteed hit against airplanes no matter what is done outside of missile malfunctions and flares, taking pilot skill, reaction time, and technique of the equation
                              • Decided to randomly nerf plane armor among other things based on no evidence that it needed to be nerfed in the first place outside the rantings of a few isolted and jaded infantry whores whom believe that soldiers need to be just as powerful as vehicles. As the average pilot (as this thread demonstrates) holds a very reasonable 5:1 K/D ratio, and on the average a lower SCORE PER MINUTE lower than armor users, helicopter pilots, medics, Spec Ops, assault ect.... THIS IS FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS LIMITED TO A HARDCAP OF TWO PER TEAM (WTF??). Not to mention a nerf on a vehicle that can't get teamwork score, can't use infantry kits, can't insta-repair by sitting next to a buddy engineer or a supply crate, and can't capture flags.
                              • Failed to balance the J-10 with all of the other planes (even with me urging many times during 1.12 for them to do so), and now that first lock = win, made the J-10 an instant win plane in a dogfight
                              • Ruined dogfighting by taking out the skill element and replacing it by a number of random variables (plane choice, flare status, position, who sees who first, ect)
                              • Failed the fix SEVERAL major plane bugs/exploits including people walking in front of planes for TKs, GHOST vehicle boxes, TEAMMATES registering as enemy vehicles on the HUD, and a number of other very annoying and serious bugs that effect the performance and enjoyment of the game for aviators
Why doesn't DICE test their patches? Who knows. Maybe they were too busy working the next cashcow hopeful (Euroforces) rather than doing a quality job on this crappy patch.

This thread, really, is about DICE, even though it has turned in to a thread with newbie pilots ranting about me. My only hope in making this thread is that DICE actually takes the time to probe the community forums, sees and reads this thread, and hopefully realizes the errors and mistakes they have made in 1.2.

It's sad because I enjoyed playing BF2 a lot more during 1.12, and BF2 was really one of my most played games, but if it ain't broke don't fix it.

                                1. Go play some serious air combat game
                                2. Stop crying when you get owned.
                                3. I (and a lot of people) can make a similar plane video, so don't feel that you are the only one. I am not impressed after watching your video.
