The confusion arises when TKing and doing one or more Team Damages with the act. It leads to varying penalties which causes people to (wrongly) jump to the conclusion that punishes are hurting their score.

Unranked servers can perhaps change this if they like, but I'm pretty sure ranked servers can't. I've yet to play a server which did, anyway. :)

Lets clear things up, You lose points for accidentally Teamkilling the or shooting the guy, GETTING PUNISHED has no effect on your score. That is all that has been proven and said in this thread.

If you was to shoot someone, and tk them, wouldnt that be -8 points? 2 team damage, 1 teamkill = -8

No. Just killing someone is -4. However, if you gradually take their health down (ie shoot them with a pistol or something that would hurt them first and then kill them) you also get team damage -2

-4 + -2 = -6

The only way you could get -8 is if you damaged another player while you tked the other player. For example you blow your c4, damage two people (-2 x 2 = -4) and kill one person out of the 3 people that were there (-4). (-2 x 2 + -4 = -8).

This can also happen after the fact. If you were to accidentally shoot a GL at a friendly hummer with one person inside exploding the hummer (-4 for TK). Then 2 friendlies go jump on the smoking carcass of the hummer and when it explodes again and disapears those 2 guys are hurt by the explosion becuase of your GL (not as a direct result, but this is how BF2 works). They are damaged and you are given (-2 x 2 = -4 + -4 (original tk) = -8).

Only in instances like those can you get -8 for one TK.

Teamkill without teamdamage = -4

Punished Teamkill with teamdamage = -6

Punished Teamkill without teamdamage = -4

From my experience punish does not effect score it simply adds to their punish count, adn when that reaches a certain level the TK'er is kicked.

It was well worth making this thread and this point again though: people in other threads are still saying that they think punish gives extra negative points. I've been going on about this for ages but gave up when I realised the power of rumour and myth.

It's the same with Commander points...it annoys me that people think they get commander points for spotting people and then those spotted people dying. Another stupid myth that keeps being perpetuated, and leads to those annoying games where the only thing you can hear is "Enemy infantry spotted! Enemy infantry spotted! Enemy infantry spotted!".

Its -4 + -2 if punished

all depends on the server if they have punish enabled

I hate team punishing idea. Just make server auto-kick to someone who tk more than a certain number in a round.

Well, this is exactly what the punish TK system does, isn't it?. Except it gives you the option to forgive people for accidental TKs.
