Re: How to dodge the new missile

From my experience, most pilots do not execute a full roll. They simply flip the plane; not losing any speed. I would suggest turning the nose straight up and then roll backward. I dont know what this is called, but I know it has saved my butt numerous times.

I have absolutely no help to give Helo pilots after the 1.2 patch. Helo's are a flying deathtrap (now) as far as im concerned.

I would just try to avoid getting locked (USS essex by flying low), Jet's by flying fast and high or try to get the missle to lock onto something else.

Sorry if this a thread hi-jack....but

Nah just make sure you have a good gunner and pilot :). (<- usually teh gunner).

My pilot would usually be smart and avoid the jets by staying low and around the buildings.

As soon as we hear a missle trying to lock, we'd try to figure out if its from the ground or air (memorize the map stinger locatiosn and try to figure out if we're in range). Then I'd shoot the stingers/IGLA's ASAP. We can still whore the map with this :).

However, if there is a jet and anti-air both firing at about the same time....we're scrwed.

I'll quote this for those that think AA is suppose to kill its target at the rate it does now. I like the challenge from the improved S2A but the A2A missile dynamics themselves are rotfl. If a missile misses... its should miss, not stop midair and wait for you to pass it and then zoom back to full speed, and not zig zag around like a reflected laser beam.

The SA-18 GROUSE (Igla 9K38) is an improved variant in the the SA-7 & SA-14 series of manportable SAMs. As with the earlier SA-14, the SA-18 uses of a similar thermal battery/gas bottle, and the SA-18 has the same 2 kilogram high-explosive warhead fitted with a contact and grazing fuse. But the missile of entirely new design with substantially improved range and speed,. The new seeker and aerodynamic improvements extend its effective range, and its higher speed enables it to be used against faster targets. The SA-18 has a maximum range of 5200 meters and a maximum altitude of 3500 meters. The 9M39 missile SA-18 employs an IR guidance system using proportional convergence logic. The new seeker offers better protection against electro-optical jammers; the probability of kill against an unprotected fighter is estimated at 30-48%, and the use of IRCM jammers only degrades this to 24-30%.

I'm glad they finally have the missiles fixed but they still need to tweak the code a bit. Its almost there! This harkens back to the inital release of the shoulder mounted stingers in Desert Combat, remember how freaking deadly those where at first? Just point anywhere in front or behind a jet and it was a free insta-kill ... didnt even have to lock anything. They tweaked soon after so that you had to aim somewhat at the plane and making it a 2 hit kill weapon instead of 1s1k.

Any one find a good EL AL server yet?!
As much as I love to learn more about the realities of weapon systems, and their "Real World" effectivness. BF2 doesn't strive for realism at all.

If that was the case, the entire ground war is wrong. Completely wrong. The weapons are wrong, the armor implementation is wrong, the running speeds are wrong, the weapon accuracy and damage is all wrong.

You cannot expect EA to take a realistic standpoint in regards to Jets and Helos and leave everything else to melt in the pool of arcadeness.

So, if the missiles connect 100%, siting realistic specification doesn't warrant any change. As much as I wish it did, it doesn't.

I like balogana. Sometimes, I like to fry it up and put it on an egg sandwitch, but most of the time I like it plain with mayo.

i agree there is no best way to avoid the things ive accualy shot a jet down that was coming straight at me, i was heading straight at it got a lock at the last second, shot 1 missile, changed my camera to watch what happend and the missile literaly did a 180 turned right around and took him out....

i think that proves how bad these things are.

This is the only part of the AA I hate in the new patch. I don't really mind it being so accurate, but if it misses you it should miss you.... I've had numerous instances where I will flare and the missile will travel through the flares and then make a 180 and come right back at you. Thats just dumb IMHO
