    Don't disparage any weapon

Every single weapon in the game is only as good as the skill level of the player that's using it. Once you learn to master it, every weapon is deadly. I've realized that the weapons that I thought are weak and lousy weren't so bad after spending 10 hours of online playing with them.
The above said is even more true about the different kits in general, and every kit has it's own advantages. Just because someone is very good at playing support or medic, doesn't mean that the engineer, or the sniper kit is useless, for example. It only means that that person choose that specific kit at the begining due to maybe personal preference towards certain weapon, and in time he/she became expert in using it, opposed to using the other kits/weapons.
The only thing that's true about some weapons being "better" than other is that certain weapons have a better lerning curve and it's easier and quicker to learn to master it.

Too true. I nearly gave up on the shotguns when i first started playing. I just needed to realise its potential in the right situation.

Although saying that i still struggle to use the SMG's effectively. But i promise i'll get some practice in.

How on earth is there a way in BF2 to "master" a weapon.
75% of guns function exactly the same, just with differing accuracy or power.
All that helps you in BF2 is quick reactions, being in a better position, and a better gun. Frankly if you need to learn to "master" clicking on people you should put in some time on minesweeper.

Actually every single gun is different. I'm not saying I'm an expert, but I've realized that as long as I know the weakness of certain weapon I'll try to avoid using that weapon in that situation and I'll try to find a condition where that weapon will be more powerful. Few examples, proning when firing machine gun, coming from close range when using a shotgun, switcing from sniper to your pistol when someone comes close to you etc. Yeah, I feel confident enough to shoot a guy from a distance with g36c, condition when I would take cover if I only had a shotgun. It's not just clicking your mouse, I wish it was that simple.

Bah, the SMGs suck, there's no two ways about it. :p I'd take the knife over an SMG...

If realising that dropping to prone to use a LMG, or getting close to use a shotgun is anything but obvious to anyone, then clearly they are a few IQ points short of a dozen.

Even if one of the wepons from a kit is realy weak, that's because the other weapon from the same kit makes it up for it, or because of the special ability of that kit, so the overall balance between the kits can stay same. For example we all know that m16 with granade launcher is better than just the m16 that the medic has, but you have the ability to revive and to heal, inlcuding yourself. All the kits are 100% balanced.

Actually dropping prone for some guns isn't worth while. If you look at BF2S and there guide to weapons it shows minimum deviation for weapons when stood/crouched/prone. Some have very little difference between them. Thats were the mastering part comes in whether it is worth while in a situation to go prone and get better accuracy but lose time or keep standing for more time to shoot your target.

Those were few simple examples so you can comprehend the idea. Apart for BF2, I can match my credentials, my education and my IQ any time against yours.

If i could have an m16 or a 47 on an engineering kit or AT i would not be using them in a reactionary manner in infantry combat for sure....
And the machine guns currently are a joke even when proned.

                      Re: Don't disparage any weapon

you are exactly right. i used to HATE engineer, support and AT. when my friend told me to unlock the pkm because it was awesome, i did, and i sucked with it, so pretty much i never used support. then, one day i used it ALL day, andi pretty much "mastered" the pkm like how you were saying, and now i realize how awesome it really is.

same with engineer... man... i HATED that kit. believe it or not it is now my second most used kit. the shotgun is awesome. anything above 20m you will die, but that is because there is a time and place (and a technique) to use it. i can kill people from about 20m away with a shotgun, and sometimes even higher. the trick i found is, even if you are just SLIGHTLY off with the plus, it doesnt hit them. if you aim for their stomach, and get the plus exactly on them, you will be surprised just how far this goes. and plus, you should use it every time you are in a vehicle (other than jet, because you should be medic for that.

AT.... omg i hated that p.o.s. kit. but now its pretty good ever since i have unlocked the DAO-12. the rocket still kind of sucks, but i have learned to use it good (lead targets ALOT {like heli's}). but the DAO makes up for every flaw of this kit. lol

Irrelevant. You said not to disparage any weapon, not any kit or combination of abilities.

So, I can disparage the SMG to my heart's content, which was the point of my post. :p

the LMG's aren't a joke. you need to burst them... which i am sure you know... but i almost always win if its a fight anywhere from 0-50m. even though it is unaccurate, you will eventually hit 3 shots on them if you burst it (like 5 seconds for far away, and near instant anywhere within 0-20m)

There is no punishment for going prone.. you can shoot on the way down with perfect accuracy, you can shoot on the way up with perfect accuracy. Not to mention you can rotate completely.

..the only reason I don't use prone often is because "Crouching" feels more "Realistic"; and I play for immersion. Not points. I'll be the first to admit though, if I was in this game for points, I would be hopping and proning all over the place because it's the most effective way to say alive with minimal effort (vs. finding good firing lanes. Crouching, and taking aimed single shots. Also, retreating if you're out gunned).

Maybe, but can you get pretty much free points by simply throwing amo bags, or only by driving by other player, while playing assault kit? Every kit has advantages and disadvantages. Ultimately all the kits are 100% balanced. When you prefer certain kit it only means that you played it alot and you are very good at it, doesn't mean that you can't get that good with a different kit if you play it long enough.
