You will most likely run BF2 smooth and faster with 2GB of RAM.

Don't run one single card of the 6600 series with AA, I don't and I get very good gameplay, graphics are on a good setting too, most medium and textures on high.

If you´re unlucky you´re experiencing the "1.12 slowdown" bug, it happens for quite a lot of people after installing patch 1.12. Before BF2 would run fine on high settings, after 1.12 install it´s choppy even on low to med settings. There´s nothing much you can do about that really, besides hoping that patch 1.2 will fix it.

did u know that BF2 has a cache? Well yes it does & once in a while its good to give this beauty a clean = performacne boost.

Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ directory. If you've changed your settings several times, I recommend you finalize your changes, close BF2, go to the above directory and delete everything under the \cache\ directory. The next time you start the game and play single or multiplayer, your shaders will be optimized again. Close BF2 one more time, defragment your hard drive, and now things should be much smoother and load much faster the next time you go to play BF2.

Still, it just doesn't make sense that the settings dont change even after i lower my settings. I'm in the process of reformatting my system, because something is definitely botched. I'll update after all is finished

Well i just finished reformatting. I installed all the drivers and what not. Reinstalled BF2, Defragged. And still i'm getting crappy performance. Any ideas?

How does it run in single player?

it runs like total crap. I shouldn't have to get more ram just to get the frames up a bit. 20's and below doesn't seem like a ram problem. Maybe if i had a steady framerate with minor skipping, then ram would clear it up. but geez

Try running BF2 at the same resolution as your desktop and also turn your monitor refresh rate to 60hz if you haven't tried that already. If you have onboard sound, turn settings to lowest.

Also, check the temperatues of your vid card and CPU. What is your power supply units wattage?

this guy is absolutely right. for most people 1.12 has a small effect on performance, like me, it simply makes it drop 10 FPS or so.

for SOME people, even with 7800s and everything, it makes them play from 1600 by 1200 to 800 laggily.

Well guys, i just decided to try to improve the cooling on my CPU and my GPU. I reapplied the thermal grease and HSF's. And you know, i think my FPS went up quite a bit.

Is it possible for the heat of a cpu to highly affect the FPS? Because this seems to be the case.

Why would i need to upgrade? I just said that the FPS went up significantly.

Does the temperature of the CPU make a big difference in performance in games?

nah not really... when it get's like REALLY REALLY HOT it starts to lose maybe 5 or 10 frames per second... cant be the cause of really bad underperformance though...

oh yeah sorry for the upgrade thing instead of cooling i read upgrade... :P auch stupid mistake
