I think too many people are taking shots at BF2RS, which is solely out there to ensure fair play. Now, while some of their decisions end up tromping on people who play fairly, thats only a very SMALL percentage of players compared to the cheaters/hackers/exploiters/smacktards they quelm with their decisions and policies.

Personally, I'm GLAD we have such an establishment working so closely with the developer and publisher to ensure the best possible gaming experience.

Remember, you ALWAYS have the option to play on unranked servers.
But the point he is making is that the EULA, that most signed existed and was signed by said user BEFORE those rules went into effect, or were even created. So refering to the EULA for people that bought the game before is a moot point. And it was said that ignorance of the law is no excuse, but the law is availible to read, and those that want to can find it. EA doesn't give clear guidance themselves, unlike law makers, and when asked specific questions give dodgy answers at best. So a third party was introduced, and makes the rules with EAs blessings, but not being directed to them through EA the primary provider of the nescessary information does NOT constitute ignorance on teh part of the consumer.

I did not say the consumer was ignorant.

I simply said that if you have installed and play BF2, you accepted the EULA, which states there are rules for ranked play, and they are subject to change. The rules might not have been publicly available before the games launch, but that doesnt mean that there were not rules available.

I wont say EA has a stellar track record of informing the consumer of such rules, but the consumer also has an obligation to find out exactly what they are, however they can.

Yeah, Law's are available to read....but they are often difficult to locate, hard to read, and even harder to understand, not to mention the horrendous amounts of loopholes.

It's pretty easy to find the laws for most places in your area, google works wonders and so does a phone call to the local law enforcement that you are visiting.

This is some page that to the majority of people is vague and unknown because there is no direct way to know that it even exists. Hell, I did not even know it exists until I read this thread, and I have been playing this game since it was a demo.

I mite actually uninstall and reinstall the game just so I can see if it is even mentioned in the EULA. Not that I don't believe you, I just need to see for myself.

How are people supposed to abide by rules when they don't even know they exist?

FF-off is completely legal. Its kinda dumb with it off, but it is ok to turn it off.

Just create a new online account, no need to uninstall/reinstall.

                    ROE is inconsistent

I have a problem understanding how rules on private servers like:

§ Artillery fire or bombing runs on main (uncapturable) bases may be prohibited.
§ Using the Transport Helicopters to take flags (Blackhawk whoring or flag hopping).
§ Using C4 on jeeps, or other fast moving vehicles to take out other vehicles.

                    Do not violate

§1.5 Server administrators may not explicitly or implicitly (by actions) enforce restrictions on vehicles or weapons that players can use while on your server (e.g. knives only, aircraft prohibited except for clan members, etc.)
                    • § Infantry only Servers
                    • § Kicking Players who use vehicles or aircraft
                    • § Limiting certain vehicles or aircraft for non clan members

Can I get some clarification on this?

How is limiting the use of artillery and airplanes (Artillery fire or bombing runs on main (uncapturable) bases may be prohibited) NOT a “restrictions on vehicles or weapons that players can use while on your server”?

How is Limiting the use of a Blackhawk NOT “restrictions on vehicles or weapons that players can use while on your server”

How is disallowing C4 on Jeeps NOT “restrictions on vehicles or weapons that players can use while on your server”?

                    It does not make sense.

Either Change section 1.5 or change the examples in Section 3. You can’t have both.

Re: BF2RS RoE Updated - Server Admins READ

                      Seems pretty simple.

1 GLOBALLY ENFORCED RANKED SERVER RULES
1.5 Server administrators may not explicitly or implicitly (by actions) enforce restrictions on vehicles or weapons that players can use while on your server (e.g. knives only, aircraft prohibited except for clan members, etc.)
                      • § Infantry only Servers
                      • § Kicking Players who use vehicles or aircraft
                      • § Limiting certain vehicles or aircraft for non clan members
3 LOCAL (PRIVATELY RENTED) RANKED SERVER RULES MODIFICATIONS

These are rules that are not enforced upon in EA’s public ranked servers but may be modified in privately rented ranked servers. These rules are decided by clan administrators for those servers and as long as they do not contradict any global rules enforced by EA are considered valid for those servers.

This would include but not limited to:
                      • § Artillery fire or bombing runs on main (uncapturable) bases may be prohibited.
                      • § Prolonged or sustained attacks on main (uncapturable) bases (i.e. spawncamping).
                      • § Using the Transport Helicopters to take flags (Blackhawk whoring or flag hopping).
                      • § Impersonating clan members.
                      • § Using C4 on jeeps, or other fast moving vehicles to take out other vehicles.
                      • § Clans may change or customise rules, provided they don’t violate the above ROE rules.

I was hoping someone would bring this up or I was.

                          According to this:
1.4 Server administrators may not change any game settings defined as standard for ranked servers (ticket ratios, server password, round time, etc.)
Is the FF-On a required setting to be Ranked?
Unlike most of the other required settings you can actually change the FF setting.
My Host's FAQ states that FF needs to be on and 100% for all settings. (They stated it's in their contract with EA)
Yet there are literally hundreds of servers that have FF off or reduced.

Can someone please give me an "Official" statement on this?

but if the rules didnt exist until after you agree to a EULA then how could someone hold you liable to a rule you technically didnt agree to because it didnt exist? does that mean if we have played before the rules were made then we are grandfathered into it? for legality EA would have to have people click "i agree" on a new EULA everytime the rules are redone or revised . the EULA is a contract basically and when you agree then you are bound by that contract as they are also. but if they change it then it needs to be agreed on again by a new EULA. but then again i dont pad or exploit ( or my scores would definatly be higher) so i really care less about what they put in as most of the rules wouldnt affect the way i play at all in a negative manner.
