American football players weigh a lot, and jump on people, but its not hard to build up that much musclemass/fat pumping iron and eating pies. Rugby players have to have the athletic ability to actually carry thier arse around for 80 minutes, which the offensive/defensive line in an American football game certainly don't.

and besides, I don't really care, cos all sport pales into insignificance compared with the true sport of kings: Swamp buggy racing!

      hot damn!

Not hard to build up muscle? You must be high on something, or a person who has never lifted weights. BTW, those "fat" football players can bench and squat more than any rotten toothed (ain't hard to make generalizations) Rugby player.

Bf2.. i wouldnt even knwo what channel or what not to even find soccer on were Im at.
I find Soccer as boring as hockey. Its non-stop going to one side of the field/rink then back again.
Sure soccer is world wide the most popular sport but thats cause anyone can play it anyweres, heck Ive seen pictures of kids in third world countries kicking trash for a ball.

As for the pauses in Football, well theres only 24 seconds between each play. The long pauses which are 3 minutes are usually time outs or injury timeouts. As for the notion of pads..well here in America football was once played with little to no pads..then as the sport started to make money and careers were brough to the attention to the league, keeping players safe and able to play for mutiple years was important.
A game of football is like a chess match lets say, after each move both sides take 24 seconds to try to out think there opponent. You can pick a pass then the hopfully the defense has picked a play were there covering the eligible receiver (yes eligible, only a limited amount of guys are permited to catch the ball, as opposed to the number of defensive guys allowed to try to intercept it) Same with running, if an offense picks a runnin play then its the duty of the team to trick the defense into believing its a pass, all the while knowing that once the defense catches on that it is a run then they must try to make blocks to advance the ball.
Theres a bunch of rules in football that I dont think the european community underatnds that makes it very difficult to advance the ball, like intentional grounding and such.
And yes sometimes you see a game full of 3-5 yeard runs, and it seems slow and you wonder why the team gets happy...well its called clock management.
Unlike a game were the clock is always ticking off seconds, football has alot to do with controlling the clock..that way when your opponent has the ball his time is limited to score before end of halfs or end of game.

Theres many subtle things abotu football left un-understood, and I can describe and explain any to make the game more reasonably understandable.

Now soccer..to me its like a bunch of guys goign back and forth over a HUGE field., its like watching tennis or hockey...bnack and fourth back and fourth.
All the while you hope for a break in the defense and a score.
Thsu is why I dont think Socce ris big in the states do to lack of action...sure theres non-stop action, but I mean scoring and such.
