      Re: Xfire explained

      Thanks for the post, I'm going to check it out.

      As for the comments about "an xfire buddy tried to hack my machine" I can't speak specifically about xfire but I can say that many apps such as this where there is traffic going directly from one client to another on various oddball ports it's going to raise flags if you are running some sort of security software suite. It doesn't necessarily mean someone is trying to hack you and quite possibly is just normal network traffic for that particular application.

        X-Fire doesn't work with PeerGuardian :dead:

        Well I've finally got an X-Fire account and boy I don't know which I should keep PeerGuardian or X-Fire, but they don't work together. :cry:

            Thats a big sig rob. 550X180. Now for Xfire it lags me down in BF2 so i got rid of it. No one cares if you have 100 hours in BF2 the whole week.

              I've got a question about Xfire. A friend of mine and I recently started evaluating it for use with our squad (four of us who play). We've been using TeamSpeak but thought Xfire might be better because it includes a browser and we all know how badly the BF2 browser sucks. Anyway, my friend is on ISDN (I'm on DSL). The one time we've tried it so far he had more lag while using Xfire than with TeamSpeak. Does Xfire use more bandwidth? How about resources?

              Does anyone have any good info/data on this? I thought it sounded better than the TS server we were using.

              Thanks.

                Well, you have to change some options in the main screen, you have to disable the 'autodownload/upload' thingy then it takes as much bandwith as TS, I have a DSL line too, and i don't expirience any lag

                    Thats why you get a router w/firewall, plus nortan internet security and enable microsofts XP firewall.

                      I'd scratch the Norton thing tbh. You are much better off just running a good firewall (the windows XP one is ok but a hardware one on your router is better) and regularly running AVG (which is free) to scan your system for nasties. Asside from a physical attack, which your firewall will stop (hopefully) the main way you get virii is by opening files / emails. Norton just sits in the background, eating resources and conflicting with every program under the sun.

                            Re: Xfire explained

                            This is because bf2 now requires your username and password in the command-line when launching. Here's a quick fix until xfire updates:

                            - Go into your C:\Program Files\Xfire folder and open xfire_games.ini

                            - Find: [4578]

                            You should see something like this:
                            Code:[4578]
                            LongName=Battlefield 2
                            ShortName=bf2
                            Icon=bf2.ico
                            LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electro nic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\InstallDir
                            LauncherExe=BF2.exe
                            LauncherPasswordArgs=+password %UA_GAME_HOST_PASSWORD%
                            LauncherNetworkArgs=+joinServer %UA_GAME_HOST_NAME% +port %UA_GAME_HOST_PORT% %UA_LAUNCHER_PASSWORD_ARGS%
                            Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
                            ServerStatusType=BF2
                            InGameRenderer=D3D9
                            InGameFlags=DISABLE_RELEASE|BLOCK_ASYNC
                            ExcludeIPPorts=80,28910,29900,29901,29902,29903,29 904

                            - Under "Launch=" append +username yourusername +playerPassword yourpassword

                            - It should now look like:

                            Code:Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS% +username yourusername +playerPassword yourpassword

                            - Restart Xfire

                            It should work like normal now, and it even bypasses the annoying account screen at the start! "(jb55)

                            *************((((+playerPassword ( uppercase P))))))************

                              Xfire is a bitch when playing BF2. Someone sends you massacre messages and you lag into the pits.
