    Basecamping, please explain

Baseraping UCB's I understand and avoid, but basecamping, what is that? If I hide in the hills outside an airfield and plink off pilots waiting for jets and choppers, am I basecamping? I did this the other day and got message that I was basecamping and that it was against the rules.
Do you guys know if this is the standard rules of conduct on ranked servers? I have not done this before and I could not see anything unfair about it. All the players standing on the airfiled had guns and was free to defend themselves against me and my rifle.
Great if someone that knows could explain to me what basecamping means to the general community and if I was doing something wrong.

Chat just said that I should stop basecamping as it was against the rules ... so I need to know what basecamping is exactly.

The m95 is pretty useless otherwise.

It's where you camp at a base, uncappable or not. Such examples are in Karkand, it is frowned upon and disliked. It's basically exploiting the spawn, not giving them a fair chance to get back at you, and basically getting cheap kills. Can't be fixed but if the server does not tolerate it, I believe you have the right to be kicked.

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, I believe that the m95 is useless againt glasses windows if you don't "Base camp". Im just saying some servers have specific rules where you cannot be at a base where someone spawns, whether you were rightlyfully kicked for it or not.

              Here is one:

On the airfield you will find pilots. Pilots like to fly. When you put a 50cal. in their aviator head, the got very very upset, because then they cant fly. So to protect themselves from bad people trying to kill them, the pilots often accour as admin. Then they can kick every bad bad person who try to ruin their killingspree day.
              I really love the jet-heros.
Why try to pick a fight with other players, when you can kick them, and live your life as a pilot-primadonna?...flying high in the sky, free as a bird, and loved by all.
So my answer is: If you hurt a pilot in any way, you basecamp, and get kicked.

Hmm ... yeah, that may explain it, kinda cowardly IMHO.

There are a lot of different definitions of basecamping and baseraping. These rules are from our server and following them shouldn't get you kicked from any server that disallows baseraping. Note however that spawn rape is something entirely different.

If the opponent team has an uncaptureable flag/mainbase, make sure to stay out of it. Killing and/or stealing/destroying vehicles in the area of an uncaptureable flag will most likely get you kicked or banned from the server (this includes artillery firing). You may as Spec-Op of course take out the enemys artillery or radarstations and defend yourself while doing so, but once that is done, get out of the area as quickly as possible. Even if a team has control of all the flags they are not entitled to baserape, keep a clear distance and start defending your flags instead.

Base Camping: Being mid to far range from a base with sniper Rifle/rocket/Or AH-chopper+Killing.

Base Rapping: Being all up in their faces with tanks/GL's/Hummvees/Jets/Knives & Just about any other weapon not mentioned above :)

So where do the border of the uncaptureable flag/mainbase go?
I notice that the terrain around most of the airfields are perfect for snipers or other infantry and I guess that DICE made it this way so that the airfield should/could be attacked by infantry. And the airfields are a fair bit away from the UCB-flag.

I find server-rules weird. The clan/ serveradmin who make the rules, I think is trying to avoid some aspects of the game that they cant handle. My life as a tank driver would be very easy if I banned every person using rocket or c4.
It seems like its always the jets/heli and pilots that gain benefits of the server rules. The same guys that gain 100+ points after the round.

                          Re: Basecamping, please explain

Ok, I understand that attacking several infantery with a rifle well outside the UCB's is fair and not basecamping so I will continue to do so. Any server not allowing this behavior probably have admins that exclusivly fly jets as Izac73 mention. Unfair home made rules like this have nothing to do on ranked servers and EA should ban them from the rank system.

Usually there is some sort of fence or building that defines the end of the main base. According to such rules it would be fair to engage targets outside of the wall on USMC's uncap on Dragon Valley 32p. I wouldn't recommend shooting people inside of the base if you don't want to get kicked/banned. You may play as you like but don't bitch and moan when you get kicked for breaking the rules. If you think the server rules are unfair or are implemented wrongly I suggest visiting that servers forum. Don't go here or any other BF2 forum to bitch about the admins.

The reason for not allowing baserape is the idea that it makes public game less fun. Most people consider the objective of a public game to be fun therefore allowing baseraping lessens the ammount of fun to be had. There are plently of servers that allows rape. Go there if you want to engage in such avtivities.

RandomTask, me and you can make our own server. And the rules could be:

                              only one rule

                              1. Please join, also you jetpilots. But remember, we love to give flyboys a moisty longlasting tebag after we sniped you in your jetlag head on the runway...seeya..have fun!
