Has anyone shot down jets with helos before?

Gulf of Oman.

A SU-34 slows down at angle to gun down a Blackhawk near the Essex. I was flying copilot for the Supercobra as we went back to rearm and repair, so the SU-34 was literally in my line of sights. I immediately switched over to TV missles as the SU-34 put on the afterburner and began climbing towards the sky. Crossing my fingers, I shot the hellfire and aimed a little bit ahead.......BOOM SHAKALAKA! The SU-34 with two pilots in it bursted into flames. :laugh:

The other less exciting scene was on Operation Clean Sweep. I was flying the Cobra again as the main pilot this time around. A Mig did a few runs and started circling around Blackhawks. I lead the crosshair, took my best shot and let out 4 rockets. BOOM SHAKALAKA! We have a Mig carcass in the air.:laugh:

Needless to say, the players began ranting with tantrum and with petty attempts of assination in the next round.

Some of the most satisfying kills ever.

Yah man such a sastisfying feeling, especially when the jet has been trying to harass you for the whole round.

Dragon Valley- There were only about 30 people on the 64 map. Couldnt get a gunner for Hind for lovin or money. So I soloed out and around blowin the cobras till someone got the bright idea to come at me with the F-35B. Unfortunatly I hit F2 just as he passed by and he got a tv missle up his afterburner. *Most satisfying kill ever* Havent been able to repeat it yet, but now that I know it can be done. Well......:evil:

I have yet to shoot down a plane from a chopper. Never really tried though.....You guys are badass..lol

only time i ever got a plane down was with an AA vehicle.....those useless rockets actually hit...then again he was coming head on at me with intent to bomb me...unloaded half way on me before he blew up

I've done it as a gunner, pilot and seat switcher: it's very satisfying. The ensuing comments are usually priceless too...

Yeah... I've nailed a plane with rockets as pilot and TVGM as gunner in attack choppers.

My personal fav helo to plane kill had to swinging my tail in a 'Hawk through the cockpit of some fighter that had been buzzing us constantly. He was coming in, I turned a bit, dove, and spun... smash, BOOM! Hehe... my bird was fine and I got credit for the kill.

Totally intentional! I swear!

Yeah I've done it twice. Gunner and pilot. If pilots are going to fly straight at you, they make themselves rather easy targets. It is a satisfying feeling though.

My real goal is to take one of these planes out with a tank shell. I used to do it all the time in Desert Combat. Came close once against the SU.

i did it in the gunner position of a plane, i figured id try to take it down with a laser guided missle, so i fire one off, the plane was close enough to were it hit the plane before the missle strayed away, it was pretty cool.

Not personally, but I have been gunning for SplinterRomp in a Cobra and watched him take one or two down with the dumbfire rockets. I think he's got about 25 or so in his career.

Last night a mate and I spent an entire (almost empty) Kubra Dam flying a Cobra and trying to shoot down jets with TV missiles. I wouldn't suggest shooting them head on, I watched at least three or four of them pass straight through the nose of oncoming jets. When attempting to hit them in the rear, the missile always ran out of range just at the last moment...

Just a couple of words of warning:
Spending an entire round trying to shoot down jets with a helicopter won't get you good end of round stats... :)
Actually shooting down a jet is like shaking a wasp's nest - they'll be buzzing around you until one of you leaves the server!

My friends and I have started doing it more and more often lately. I got 2 the other day on Daquing Oilfields the F-15 Head-on and the F-18 right up the tailpipe. Pretty satisfying when you catch the F-15 flying straight and go right into his afterburners.... wtf? Did it just say a chopper took me down? But he wasn't even close to me? :laugh: SUPRIZE!!!! :laugh:

Yup, i made it too. Done this a couple of times within my ~100hrs as a heli pilot - using unguided missles on approaching jet (face to face). I think it can be practiced and mastered, the only condition is you are directly facing the jet as it starts approaching and bursting his cannon - there is no time to turn if you want to shoot him down. My clan gunner managed to get TV kills as well, but mostly on reloading or just starting jets - when they use afterburner they seem to be faster or just as fast as Hellfire (don't know about Sukhoy - maybe its slower) .

All these hits were extremally rewarding but The most rewarding one I ever got in BF2 was when I shot down a F35 with a single SRAW round. I typed somethink like 'gotcha' on text console, but the pilot was angry and all I got was 'f#@!in aimbot' comment :-) That was kind of rewarding too.
