The problem is not that it would be too complicated to make the game with full realism. The problem is that it would kill the gameplay. The reason for this is, if you get hit with any weapon IRL, anywhere in your body, there is a 99% chance that you wouldn't be able to fight anymore and it probably hurts like hell. If that were the case in game (except the pain), you would have to wait 15s to spawn again, and the game would be boring cause you would spend more than half the time spawning.

The solution would be that you half one life per round. You get shot, you're dead till next round. Then I'd like to see someone running around chunking C4 :-)

Also, then one AT rocket or tank shell would destroy the chopper, AT rocket would destroy any armor or HMMVE, planes would need to land for about half an hour to reload, there would be no reviving on the field, tanks could bring down buildings......................

BTW, I didn't write this reply to critisize the original post which was great, but to give my opinion why full realism will never exist in combat games. There is no full realism if there is no fear of getting killed.

Exactly what i'm saying. Don't pay attention to these idiots who have no respect for that wonderful post that is very interesting. All they want to do is find something wrong or complain.

Very interesting post and a good read
while i don't think battlefield would benefit at all from anal realism there is a niche for it and Armed Assault when it comes would be more like the game for you

Basically Operation Flashpoint 1.5 - the best military simulation to date and an incredible game - it should ship this summer
              Can't wait :)

Good post but i disagree with semi auto sniper rifles being more accurate then bolt action ones.

what worries me is some people's/nation's obsession with weapons, their overriding belief that this is a good thing, and the need to then tell people this at every opportunity despite decades of evidence that an armed population with an unhealthy obsession for weapons is an incredibly bad thing.

It is neither big nor clever and trying to make it appear so on a forum frequented, in the main, by kids is pretty stupid. really, why not discuss this on a moderated adult gun forum instead of on a game forum...

but then again I expect to be shouted down for having a different opinion...

The OP actually made an interesting post SPECIFICALLY telling us how the game guns differ from real life. He is not complaining that the game guns are too arcady, but rather telling us how unrealistic they are with facts (hopefully). We all know that the guns are balanced for obvious gameplay reasons. What we don't know is the IRL facts he told us (most of us).

And i have never seen a post as detailed and elaborate as his, and still, nobody is going to search through a million pages worth of topics for that 1 topic with it.

It was nice of him to post that (or find it from somewhere else) and i enjoyed reading it.
k i can understand ur feelings ........but that is his opinion ........we can not change that .....let him go with the same!!!!!!!!!!1

Any opinions on the effects of the upcoming patch... Quite a few points brought up in the OP appear to be being addressed to some extent by this patch (specifically increasing prone accuracy on the SUpport weapons and sniper rifles, and the arming distance for the GL)...

I dont know what kind of .357 magnum youve fired The only thing I've seen a muzzle flash come from is a shotgun and that was at night, and it was still barely visible. This thread is great, sets a lot of things straight.

Very Nice Read. It all could have been made up because living in the UK we know as much about guns as we do about american football. In my opinion i'd like to keep it like that.

My opinions about firearm accuracy has been built up around Rainbow six games and a bit of clay pigeon shooting. How accurate is that (the game not the clay game?).

                          Very Nice keep it up

Re: Battlefield 2 Small Arms: In Game versus Reality

If you want a military simulation.... you picked the wrong game! Try America's Army if you want to get realism... beware however, it is not as fun as BF2.

Reload animations in the game are ridiculous and the animations that take place while pulling out a gun are really poor if you ask me. They are extremely unreaslistic since they show the soldier doing things he would never do in combat (everybody keeps their gun lock and loaded while in combat).

I believe that Dice forgot to do some research on the guns and their animation. If you are doing a game with modern guns, it really does not cost much to go to a local shooting range and rent some of the guns featured in the game so that the developers are familiar with the operation of the guns and are able to reproduce them in the game accurately. The guns are the main part of the game and they should have been given a lot of effort (vehicles are really important too, but I don't expect game developers to have much experience with the M1A2 ).

I also disagree with the inclusion of the Jackhammer given that it was an EXPERIMENTAL weapon that never went into production. As a matter of fact, there are only two known remaining samples in the world.

More than caliber and recoil, the shooter must concentrate more on breath control, stance, grip, sight alignment, followthrough and trigger control. Try to replicate that in a game!
