In reply to #5. Since you are a "Guru" maybe you can enlighten me as to what is wrong?. . . . I just started playing BF2 so I could get my system "Bugs" Identified and fixed. Tweaked if you will. But in the process I got hooked on the game and now like to play. Due to the low FPS I couldnt. Is 100 FPS possible with my system? I dont know and really just would like the lowest I ever see (when pings are below 100) to be about 30 FPS. That should be eaisly attainable.

The Goal I had in mind when I built this computer was to be able to run the 64 bit operating systems that are coming. Everything (dont know about the Video card havent checked) was selected with that goal in mind. I noticed that you dont have your specs listed. After a coment like "your system cant do 100 FPS" I might just try and see what the top end is. Take the coment as a challenge, even. We will see. . . . . .Red

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you redrider... getting 25 fps during a battle in Karkand. Specs:
        Intel P4 650 (stock speed, 3.4 ghz)
        Intel 945PVS
eVGA 7800gt (stock speeds and 82.12 beta drivers)
        2 gigs of ram
        2 80gb harddrives in RAID 0
        Antec Truepower 2.0 480w

It would be really nice if we could find out what's wrong

Re: Fixed my game might fix yours

I am following this post with interest as I am having the same problem and have tried everthing I know to to get my FPS up. Currently sitting at about 20fps.

          My specs are:

          Dell Dimension 4550 - 2600 processor
          Nvidia 6800GT
          1MB Ram
          80 Gig Hard Drive

Getting a new Dell system next week with the following stats:

          Dell Dimension 9550 - 3200 Processor
          Nvidia 6800
          2mb Ram
          160 Sata Drive

Will install BF2 on it and see if it runs smoother.

Just hope the new system does not start to slow down the more I play the game.

(The link to "BF2lag.box.com" did not seem to work. Is this correct?)

I was checking my computer for programs i didnt remember down loading and ran across something interesting. A folder in my Documents and settings folder it was the cache everyone talks about and on my computer its a hidden file (mine had almost 4000 files in it). To find this and clean it out do a search in my documents and settings. In XP Press start select search and type in (without quotation marks) "*.cfx" this will bring up all the folders in the said BF2 cache They will either have BF2 or BF2 Demo in the location. This will drasticly improve performance. There are also some helpful tips at BF2lag.Box.com. I am still in the hunt for 100 FPS wonder whats next?. . . . . . .Red

A lot of people are reporting a very severe performance drop with patch 1.12, which can´t be compensated by any tweaking measures suggested thus far. I recommend installing the BF2 demo or unpatched BF2 and checking the framerates there. For me the demo runs twice as fast as BF2 1.12, on the same map, with same amount of players. I´m hoping for the new patch to fix this, as there´s probably no tweak that will double the framerate, in face of some bad coding in 1.12.

I get awesome frame rate and graphics but severe pausing and sound loops since 1.12 and installed SF

SF messed up performance to lots of people...let's hope v1.2 undoes some of that.

just tried the demo, twice as fast for me as well... I was getting anywhere from 40-80 fps, usualy around 60. And that was on all high settings, 4x antialiasing, at 1280x1024 resolution

I have tried your fix (above) and guess what it does work. I also deleted all the entries under the community tab in the game and I dont know if that had an effect to but my lag has just disappeared.

I strongly advise everyone to try this fix.

Will the new 1.2 patch fix the performance problem? Does it say anthing about a performance boost in ANY way? I am also having like 20fps in strike in intense fights. Complete BULL.

Re: Fixed my game might fix yours

Rember this is a work in progress! I am trying to up date you guys on everything I try. I am trying everything I can think of. If I thought that The info here was useless to anyone but me, I wouldnt have started this thread. with what Ive done so far I am currently averageing 30-40 FPS on most servers. There are some lame servers out there that cant run BF2 good or the people who service them dont have a clue. I dont know, I also believe that the 1.12 patch has Issues. Thats a big suprise, isnt it.

Back to the important stuff. I tried a modded video driver from Tweaks r us (real site, google it) but didnt notice any difference, no help on the frame rate. I am probably gonna go and buy a new Hard drive and install Xp, BF2, plus the needed drivers and patches. It will almost be like a reformat but better, truely a clean install. My plan is to swap Hard drives and retest my frame rate. With my current set up I have seen frame rates between 65 and 70 on empty servers with a ping around 70. I will update you guys at least every other day or when I get noticeable (about 5 FPS) improvement. Thanks for taking the time to read this. . . . . . .Red

I am also using a program called "smart close" that works quite well. It closes all unneeded programs, it has a option to select programs to leave open for people who use a friend finder ie. X-Fire users.

Re: Fixed my game might fix yours

I am in the same boat. Just upgraded from an ATI 9800pro to an ATI X850XT PE and the difference was really small when I thought it would be huge!

                              With 9800pro I played:
                              Lighting, DLighting, Dshadows = Medium
                              Rest = High
                              NO AA or Filtering
                              1024x768

Now with X850XT PE I play:
                              Lighting, DLighting, Dshadows = Medium
                              Rest = High
                              2xAA, Medium Filtering
                              1280x1024

Any higher and it is too choppy, 15-40 FPS as it is. I expected sooooo much more from this upgrade!!! I installed all the latest drivers many times, deleted cache many times and tried all kinds of graphics settings. I haven't reinstalled BF2 yet becuase I have read that it didn't help some other people. I am not reformatting my hard drive for a freaking game!!! It would take days to reload everything and there is no reason why I should have to wipe my hard drive to get a game to work.

My 3DMark05 score jumped to 6045 from 2724 with the new card so it looks like the card is working well, its just something with BF2.
