      BF3: Modern Combat

Apologies for getting carried away! :P
      • I'd like to see it set around 2010 with some near-future weaponry, equipment etc. Also laser designation weaponry -give the AT an LD unit.

        M8 (and variants)

        M29

        Chinese T-95P System

        Laser designators.

      • 128, 256 player servers. 1 Commander. But a new class: Radio operator. Bridges the gap between squad leader and Commander. Takes some responsibility and micro-management away from the Commander (64 or 128 players a side could get a little hectic -maybe).

Radio Operator also gives squads a better fighting chance *if* you're stuck with a lousy commander. Perhaps the RO could call in jets for air support, munition drops or medi-drops; but with say a 5/10 minute timer on each, per game. Perhaps higher ranked RO's could have shorter timers.

      • Stats that have more significance. For example a Staff Sergent with 50hrs on his sniper rifle will have 30% more accuracy (or less movement) when sniping/scoped. A higher rank AT could have a slightly higher damage rate than a lower rank (reflects his battle experience and ability to find weak points).

Ability points. Going up in rank gives you AP that can be spent. Maybe some stats could be 'spent' so that a player can have more stamina, or a better ability to be healed. Faster reload times, ability to carry more munitions etc.

This would give more meaning to playing well: more points = not just 'mere' unlocks and ranks that don't mean anything. Now rank = more AP.

      • Civilians. Have some civilians in the streets / houses? Simple AI: run/hide away from the gunfire... I'm not talking huge AI here, just simple. USMC are penalised for excessive collateral damage but terrorists/rebel forces can use them to their advantage. Think Black Hawk Down (movie) here for an example; the militia use a small crowd of civilians as a shield to aid their advance.

Militia capturing a flag on a tight urban map makes that counter a lot harder when they've got civilians in the way. Do you risk losing tickets with 'collateral' damage, and regain it by capturing the flag back early? Or do you play it safe, snipe out the higher ranks and free the civilians: and then hit?

Higher ranked militia have a higher leadership value, and that equates to a longer time they hold the civilian under their control. Militia start dieing or the rank (and immediate/local leadership value) drops then civvies start running.

      • Jii-had. Specific ji-had vehicles and ji-had capable terrorist forces. Low on health? Not gonna make it to regroup point: then martar yourself. PS- forgive me if I am spelling jii-had wrong.

      • A few civilian vehicles in urban maps.

      • Single squad based levels/counter-terrorism levels. Smaller 1 squad or 2 squad (per side) maps. This will bridge the gap between the CS and BF2 demographics. The smaller maps might draw in the CS players that are initially put off by Jets (etc). Smaller maps will attract the ground pounders. The bigger range of weapons, equipment, ability points and improved communications (infastructure) of BF3 will be the sealing clinchers that steal players and modders from CS.

I'm not calling for 'small' maps either. Think office buildings, airports, factories, power plants, hospitals and government buildings for a start. Heck, even a jungle hostage rescue could work.

One possibility to set it apart from CS is to outnumber the CT squad. What about 24 terrorists vs. a 12 man well-equipped CT unit. I guess fictional units and terrorist factions would cause less offence and offer better artistic license.

      • Hostages: search and rescue! CTF? That's for l33t Unreal Tournament d00ds, dude! I think the idea of CTF is a little unrealistic, so why not make it a search and rescue op? It could work on small or large maps; and be the CTF answer that the BF franchise needs.

      • Neutralise A direct take on countering CS. Basically 1 spawn per member... you die you're out of the round. Playing like this adds to the importance of knowing your surroundings and valueing your resources. It can only help your play in other game-modes.

Getting too far away from BF2? Why think so narrow. Tread on as many toes as you can, attract the audiences and let communities grow. You spend all this time building such a great game engine and netcode: why not offer several game modes!

      • Editable config files. The ability to fully edit our own control config files. With the ability to create our own alias functions (think quake, doom, CS etc).

      • Ability to play online against console users[/U]. PS3 will have a mouse and keyboard, full internet browser and online service. All these make it apossible candidate for BF3 (in it's PC form). 360 will unlikely offer a similar version to the PC BF3 because of no mouse and keyboard. If it's possible then unify the netcode and let console players play PC players.

Let's face it: the big money and bigger demographics lie in console games. Having a pc game that can play online against console users aint a bad thing. It's all exposure at the end of the day. One console user might get fed up of being owned by the PC dude and switch. In reverse the pc user might switch to console. It's all good news for DICE/publisher/console/PC.

      • Destructible terrain. Soft ground can suffer craters, foliage and trees can be destroyed. Small walls can be reduced to rubble. Small houses can have some weaker walls knocked down ("fully destructible" buildings would change the game mechanics too much, and also the structure of the map -so lets keep it simple).

      • Customisable weather system, and map times. Any map can be 'set' to a certain time (morning/evening/midnight), and then combined with a local weather condition. For example; Karkland, 8pm, Sandstorm or Karkland, 8am, Clear skies. Kubra Dam, Midnight, Raining.

      • Lets keep BF3 'modern' and not futuristic. An appeal of the BF franchise is it's take on real weaponry and settings. Sure artistic license is used, but lets not go into the realms of sci-fi. Let BF4 have the 2025 tech like Airborne Holographic Projectors and Hybrid High-energy Laser Systems!

A few cool things could be added though, like in-set video feeds from squad members. Real-time, "real" 3D maps for the Commander.

      • Infa-red, night vision. If ground troops don't get Infa-red then some vehicles or helicopters should get it where appropiate.
        Fun read: http://www.abovetopsecret.com/pages/futureweapons.html

      • Airborne depoyment. Suitable forces should be able to deploy from high altitude. This would somewhat alleviate the problem of base-raping and put more emphasis on AA.

      • AA class.

      • Customisable kits. Before the game starts you can have add a degree of customisation to your character. All weapons have weight and 'hinderance' properties that effect your character's speed and agility (think reload times, for example).

The ability to customise your kit comes with Rank. A private has no control over his kit's content but a veteran knows what he needs, and what he doesn't. This goes all the way down from armour (less armour = faster, more stamina), water canteens (affects stamina, ability to be healed), ammo, grenades, weapons you carry etc.

      • Built in name and shame 'table/list' of clans that stat-pad. Any incentive to put off stat padders can't be a bad thing.

      • Jungle warfare. Tight, ground pound, guerilla warfare. Fun. Hell yeah.

      Decals
Oh and a tool to edit some decals... like custom tags on our helmets. Custom tshirt logos (insert imagination here) for dirty terrorists. Custom badges for clans. It's all in the details.

      How to combat stat-padding:
A central leaderboard for 'registered' clans. This database also has an intelligent (simple to program actually) algorithm that sifts through servers and catches the stat padders. A pts/hour, player-ID spidering tracker would do it. There would be a Stat padding policy, a 3 strike rule and harsh consequences for those clans caught stat padding. An appeal system is of course there, but with BattleRecorder v3 and the algorithms in place it's pretty hard to get it wrong; and easy for a small staff of QA to regulate and enforce.

Ok I had fun, hope u liked the ideas too. Time to soak my poor muscles, 226lb squats ftw.

      Peace.

I say some kind of futuristic apocalypse scenerio, kind of like that one flash animation 'Fallen Angel".

Also, I'd like to see orbiting ships (the ships would be kind of like carriers on BF2 right now) that you could spawn on and drop into the battlefield in pods that could hold about 4 ppl.

Should be somewhat like timesplitters - Differant missions and weapons in differant time scales- Like world war 1, 2, the cold war (but somehow conflict -.-) and modern day and then like 2100 stuff, so its furtuirstic but not like aliens and everything.

            Re: Where should BF3 go?

If they make BF3 futuristic with aliens, laser guns, and space battles I will not continue to play the Battlefield series. Battlefield needs to stick with modern wars that are going on today, or in the near future.

yea wired, i totally want to see some civilians on karkand / mastuur / sharqi. and some villagers in those chinese farms would be sweet too. i mean, why is the entire city of karkand empty??

hm. i want to be able to change my appearance? customize character features like in WoW. i mean we have this whole ranking system with stats like in a MMORPG, why do we all have to look the same?

It would make a realy novel game and with it being a hybird game with C&C the commander mode could by way more complex. I dont actually see the licence thing being a problem as EA now owns both C&C and Battlefield i dunno if it will ever happen but it would be alot of fun.

BTW therea a C&C mod coming out i dunno what sort of vehicals are going to be in it but its somthing you might want to look into i know ill deffinatly play it when its released.
i remember there was a game like BF2 made with the Red Alert vehicles. Tried the demo. The maps really sucked though. but it was awesome to drive around in the C&C style tanks (stealth tanks!) and buggies and APCs. and you get to blow up tiberium harvesters :)

oh and the bases had automatic defenses like turrets and tesla coils. that would be a good idea... it's so weird to see the back bases or carriers in BF2 completely empty and the enemy can basically take a stroll into it. why not let the commander spend a ticket to put AI controlled soldier on the ground / AA base defenses (if they are empty)?

Like that strategy game, Shattered Union? That would be cool only make it more realistic. 2-3 sides. I thought the European peacekeeping force in Shattered Union was a nice touch, so there in too. One thing I worry about is how to make the sides feel distinctly different, yet realistically American. Still, that what game devs can figure out.

I would also like to see perhaps a Soviet invasion of the United States in like the 50's or 60's. RA2 fans will remember the opening cutscene. Kirovs over New York, Dreadnaughts firing at San Francisco. Tanks rolling in through Mexico. Awesome. Obvously use real life units, not those of RA2. For maps, use anything you want, as long as it makes sense that there would be a mojor battle in that location. The Soviet Union is not going to paradrop into a small Colorado high school ALA Red Dawn, .

                          Re: Where should BF3 go?

Naval combat with ships that can hold a large working crew. With all crew having something interesting to do. I want to be able to go into the control room of a ship and see players on radar, navigation, engineering and weapon systems - but designed so its actually fun!

Enhanced squadplay.A health point or firepower bonus system for being in a full squad and all together would help to encourage squads to be more cohesive.

                          128, 256 or more players.

                          More classes
Recce, mortar, officer, combat diver, combat driver, combat pilot, combat sailor - loads of possibilites.

Much, much larger maps but with an emphasis on tightly focused battles instead of lots of little ones like at present. And make some of them more elevated - i.e. fighting up the sides of huge hills.

Somehow incorparate prisoners of war into the game - Maybe if you get caught by an enemy and your without ammo then you could be automatically put in a POW camp for a set period of time - but can also be rescued by team mates.

Enhanced defenseTo encourage more defense of flag points - If you stay near flag for a set amount of time you gain a defense bonus of health and/or firepower - and keep it as long as you stay near the flag. And to stop people complaining about base raping - you automatically get that bonus when u spawn at main base.

                          Lean left and right keys

                          Roll key

I see you don't have WW1 listed as an option... That is the only one the Battlefield series hasn't already made. (bar futuristic, if you want futuristic buy star wars battlefront 2..)

They've already covered WW2, Vietnam and modern. Everybody seems to forget there were a dozen wars before those ones.. ie. The Boer war, WW1, the American civil war, the civil war...
