Re: Learn how to use the tv missle!

LOL, rude pilots shouting about the TV missile is the biggest reason I won't get into a gunner's seat.

My most absurd experience ever in BFII was the day I was sniping from a ridgetop when a friendly attack chopper came and landed (!) beside me, and started shouting "Get in! Get in!" At that time I'd never so much as been in an attack chopper. Well, my position was pretty much blown and I was low on ammo, so I got in.

Now, I got introduced to the game by a friend who needed a .50 gunner for the turrent of his tank, so I knew (from painful experience) that a TV missile existed. But I knew *nothing* about how to find or launch the thing. By contrast, I felt pretty comfy blowing things up with my machine gun (though I'd never heard of the F9 trick to improve my view). So as we flew around, I gunned what could be gunned, and when my pilot lined me up on armored targets, I started fumbling for the missle. I figured out how to get the little black-and-white TV window open, but I'm not sure I ever got anything lined up for launch before my pilot would lose patience and fly away, shouting "USE THE F*I8KD8 TV MISSLE YOU *STUPID888 NOOOOBE11!!@!@@!" and much much worse. I can't figure out why he's abusing *me*, when HE's the one who Shanghaid *me* off a nice quiet ridgetop; but he did. And this went on for several minutes (until the round ended), with him screaming at me and abusing me for my NOOBness. And yeah, I *was* a newbie, but I was staying the heck out of his chopper until he invited me in, so WTF?

I've had similar (shorter) experiences with other chopper pilots who stopped to pick me up uninvited; I always say "I don't know how to use the TV missile" and they usually say something abusive. Why are chopper pilots so rude?

Now, having asked that question, I will tell my one fabulous experience in an attack chopper. Got picked up, told the guy I was a tank turret gunner by trade, he said "great" and never mentioned the TV missile. We spent two glorious rounds (which I remember felt like a dream sequence) swooping through the skies over Operation Clean Sweep. I shot *at* stuff with my gun -- can't say I hit too much from such a fast-moving gun platform -- while he used rockets to great effect. I also did a lot of spotting for him -- my tank driver made sure I'm well trained that way -- which he encouraged. We got shot down a few times -- not often -- and he always made sure I got back in. It was huge fun and we blew up a lot of stuff. No, not the most efficient use of the chopper, but he was having fun and so was I.

I realize some of you rude chopper pilots are unhappy about folks who jump into "your" aircraft without any encouragement from you. But have you considered that maybe, just maybe, you'd be better off spending a round *teaching* them to use the TV missile? Fly off to a quiet corner of the map and have them blow an unused stationary AA-site into smithereens; once they've done that and have the mechanics down, they're a lot more likely to try it in combat, hmmm?

If they tell me they can't use the TV missile, or make it obvious to me by never using it, I'll fly to a safe place (the homebase, a flag where APCs spawn, ..) and use the commo-"GET OUT!".
If they refuse / start flat-out f*ckyouing me, I'll either land the chopper and go do something else, or stick them into the punish zone and go back to soloing.
Easy as that, no "OMG N00B%$&%$&" needed.

Did that 7 times now :) Ain't it rewarding? ahh the satisfaction.

          Just had to brag :/

But about the topic: i find it just as irritating to get into a chopper as a gunner and what some pilots do is that they fly to the nearest flag and hover over it trying to cap it despite the gunner who is constantly spotting, let's say, an enemy chopper or tank that is right next to the chopper.

my top 3 flaws of attack chopper gunners and pilots :

          Gunner :
          1) Not using the TVG missiles
          2) F***ed priorities = take out AA targets and .50cals first
          3) Not spotting/being unaware of surroundings

          Pilot :
          1) Flying alone / using the chopper to cap flags or something else besides taking out armoured targets and infantry
          2) Not looking at the minimap to se where targets /threats are
          3) Not letting your gunner do his job

Re: Learn how to use the tv missle!

I consider myself to be a decent pilot ( nowhere the skill of Trepidd_Jesse or Big, but hey, I try). I hate it when a gunner takes a TV shot, misses and then opens up w/ the chain gun on an unexspecting target. FFS, I hover long enough for 2/3 TV shots, all that damn chain gun does is make the target aware of your presence ... But it's ok, at least they tried using the TV missile on something other than tanks ... I get alot of gunners that think the TV is for ground targets or something.

As for gunning, I love it! I'm not the best, but I'd say I hit 70% of the targets I shoot at with it. I love the 6 man blackhawks

And to the guy that asked why pilots are so rude: When I fly, I usually let trusted gunners gun with me, or high ranked players. So when I'm on the pad w/ my gunner bud, and some noob stands there and steals the gunner seat from my gunner, I get upset. Especially when the guy doesn't know what a TV missile is. Just makes pilots VERY frustrated, because the time we waste getting rid of the crappy gunner we could be spending taking out armor and other attack chalks so our grunts can cap.

i hit things that i cant see, i mean i shoot the missle when there is nothing in site, and find something

You shouldn't need a steady platform when firing at something from a distance. Your wire guided is stable enough as it is. If it's close you need a predictable platform.

I just fly and gun for myself.

                  Saves me the frustration.

If some tard wants to abuse me for not hitting things with a tv misslie, I do my best to annoy the living crap out of him, its a game and I'll bloody well do what I please to get enjoyment from it. Even if it means c4'ing the thing next time it spawns and waiting till he get to the other side of the map defore detonation.
If people cant tv then deal with it, go drive a tank or fighter jet.
