Re: getting 100% EFFICIENCY from BF2!!!!!

    Hoi crack a jack's
ok reading all the info so far and doing benchmarkin on diff sys's os's since the game came out iv found out that the psu and a few more things make playing bf2 real bad or real good.I used the same cfg on all test's.Only thing that was diferent was the hz and size.Iv also found that some cards conflickt with the game to a point where the whole sys will bcome unstable.and a swift format is the only way to make good. There was a significant improvment in load time and play smoothnes with the right PSU.I'v tested about 20 PSU's all in all and some are slow and slugish and some work sweet. After lookin at the spec's on these said psu's i came to the conclushon that the psu needs to be over 500w and If you find that your game play and load times are still bad (try a diff psu)(12 seconds faster on load time with (550+) psu. This may vary from mobo to mobo tbh.
    Games Bench't
    quake 4
    quake 3
    bf2
    bf
    UT2+
    NFSu

Theres no point pointing the finger at any game and saying aww my pc's gay it's to slow blar blar blar.Any body can say anything on the net and get away with it tbh so dont lisn to these ppl.Test and benchmark your own stuff all the time.

Re: getting 100% EFFICIENCY from BF2!!!!!

      1) You do realize that that spec you keep referencing, the minimum requirement of 400w means for the computer, not for the card right? It says you need a 400w in your COMPUTER. Not that the card itself, all by it's lonesome, uses 400w of power! My god, that'd be a crazy ass card if it actually used that much. Liquid nitrogen cooling anyone? I really doubt a 7800 superduper1337-2006hypernonesense (joke meaning a fictionally super advanced 7800 series card) would use more power than my entire computer does.

      2) Yeah , psu's have typically run 20% under complete efficiency, but that's because of these crazy thermodynamic laws. It doesn't mean that a 400w actually only pumps out 320w. (Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure that if you ran modified cooling on a psu, that the efficiency would increase).

      3) You're insane because you're continuing with your defense that, when brought back to your original statement, you need at least a 500w power supply in order to play bf2 at peak peformance. That is wrong on both accounts, and thirdy, you're insane because you're working on people's computers by tricking them into thinking you know what you're talking about. I'm currently in the market for a new psu myself. If I didn't know better, maybe I'd have listened to you considering that everyone that's upgrading is doing so most likely because they're having severe system failures or want bf2 to play better. But listening to you wouldn't help them.

      4) I personally never verbally bashed you. I HAVE asked if you were drunk, and said that you were wrong, and finally that you were insane (after continuing to defend yourself after two days instead of saying "you know what? Maybe I'm wrong! I'll go do some research and come back to y'all!"). But none of that was bashing you. Just observations meant to help you learn something about giving advice that you don't undertand just yet.

Pause: So you don't think that I'm all out attacking you, go check some of my posting history here. I hand out advice like it's candy and I've only been into computers for a couple of months. So far, I really haven't been proven wrong on anything that I said (and things I'm not really sure about I generally include a statement saying as such), but my preTotalBF2 past is a bit different. I've learned that if a bunch of people jump on you about misinformation, that it's best to learn from it and thank the people, instead of maintaining a strong defensive shield around my arguments, which have since melted and drained away while I was busy arguing about them.

      5) Don't try to change your original statements now. Someone earlier gave you credit for something you never said, so don't try to build off of that encouragement. You stressed a 500w psu and that's the point of argument. Not the fact that it should be a quality psu. A thread pointing out the difference between quality and quantity(wattage) would be a GREAT thread. It would prove the opposite of your current, or at least original, point though. It's the same as ram. You can't just say "get two gigs of ram, that'll fix the problem", because what speed? What timings? And my 300gb Maxtor isn't better than my 74gb Western Digital simply because it's 4 times bigger. The WD is better because it not only has a faster rpm, but a faster seek time as well.

And I'm hardly rich. I have a part time job, make about $130 a week, am renting a room from family, and have been living on ramen for the past three weeks.

Re: getting 100% EFFICIENCY from BF2!!!!!

For most people with an adequate amount of peripherals attached to their psu, a DECENT 250 to 350 will suffice. But when you add, high-end cards and voltage hungry ram and an OC'ed cpu, not to mention numerous fans. Those lower wattage psu's won't cut it. You should never put a strain on a psu with those items. If you feel a large amount of HOT air coming out, your psu is straining. It should be warm not hot. The main thing to remember, most people dont have any of these items attached, and/or all their hardware is running on stock voltage. So yes, in cases where you need a great amount of voltage required to ensure stability of components- you need a 500 or more. But in most cases, a DECENT 350 will be more than enough.

going wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back to my 1st post,

i stated 3 high end cards and what to look for in a good psu i.e ampage(30A)
now cheap psu have around 15 so 30A is a qulity psu.
also i stated diffent ram manufacturers (qulity and non branded)
also stated difence beteween 2x512 and 1gig stick (low latacy)
the 500+watts was intended for high spec cards.
and the post was started for ppl with abnormal loading times on there high spec systems.....
also stated the importance of keeping ur pc clean from dust
          and the importance of defraging.....................
using this a ruff guide you could get more efficancy from bf2..
i have made loads of cpu from scratch(5 years experience)
now it was genraly for bf2 but i suspect most ppl play other games like doom3,q4 and this would help them too.....
i have the right to defend myself when i no what im talking about

          thank you ,
this post was aimed at high end users (fact)
atleast some one can agree on that

If you start a thread detailing the process you used when building a cpu I'd really love to see that, along with pictures of course. Getting all those pins in must have been really hard! Half of mine always end up at odd angles. =P

            Original post:
If you have an ATI x800 or X850 or NViDiA 6600 or 7800 series card with up to 2 cd/dvd roms, up to 2 harddrives with more then 2 case fans you will need a 500Watt power supply.
First sentence. Absolutely false. The basis for every argument that has followed for 67 posts since. Your argument has morphed from post one, mostly changed by what we've been saying, so now you're a lot more right than wrong, but you didn't start out that way, and your current stance is had without credit to how you've gotten there.

Anyway, I've officially become bored with this post. Toodles

i edited one thing on my original post and that was for youre benifit ,
i took away 17. as i had a even bigger and more detailed description of how to make youre pc run faster including changing the heatsink paste blah blah blah, but i removed that b4 i posted and left in tip 17.
you are probaly board cus you ran out of things to add or like me yove had enough of explaining you thoughts on the matter...
if at any point in the future you get the chance to benchmark high end cpu or you indeed get youre own top end pc with the fastest gfx ect plz put in a 300watt power supply and play bf2 for 5 hours and watch youre performance degrade...then when you've had enough of the low perfromance bite youre tounge and get a 30A 500+ powersupply and try that, only then i feel you will be convinced that what i say is good advice

Re: getting 100% EFFICIENCY from BF2!!!!!

Fine, one more post: What would you call the current computer I am running? It's no sli setup, but it's not a 2 year old Dell either. It's got the second best card in your first sentence, so I guess you're saying my computer is high end. Check my stats, plus a 120mm fan, and 3 80mm fans (all led) and aftermarket lighting that I installed as well. I'm pretty sure I can get a sound card and another dvd drive in here before I've peaked out my psu (which has a max output of 400w).
                ----------
edit: and no, before you say it, the next logical step, because I AM buying a new psu, isn't a 500 or better. The next logical step, considering that all I plan to add after this is another pci card, another hard drive, and a tv tuner, is 450 tops, and no, that's not splitting hairs, because my system by that point will be a power hungry hog and still no where near 500w.

Rig in the signature, ps. I only have the necessary parts, no extra FAN's, HD's or whatsoever.

u have a high end pc bud ,what i saying is 500 is the best for the reason ur notgoing to worry about maxin out ur psu and if u get a good qulity psu u aint gonna have to worry about harming youre equipment..my post was a guide.
not to state that if u aint got 500 watts it wont work properly, any what make me rofl is i aint heard a mention about using 1gig mem sticks or defraging..?

not everyone runs there cpu with the bare minimum (on the gfx box minimum wattage is for a system running minimum)most ppl have 2 drives and 2 hd and a few fans yes this works but u are putting a strain on you psu if u have alot of things in youre cpu like firwire cards tv tuners extra usb hubs blah blah.

all i ask is when u go to get you're psu check the quility and amparage and make sure you have over the minimum recomended by youre gfx card so you dont stress the psu more than it needs to... peace out

basacally when ur psu wants to blow you motherboard it wont give you a warning.you can check from time to time by doing this(extreme)
turn off pc unplug power from psu leave for a few mins then....
unply the main atx power cable from ur psu to youre motherboard(earth youself 1st)look at the connector that you just unpluged (white retangular shape with orange red black leads and have a look if u see any burnt areas you psu is been stressed to the max and needs replacing asap..
                        like i said thats extreme.

                        that is a decent psu u have,and a envyable prosseser :)
but if you thinking of adding more gear to youre rig some more watts would help.i would recomend some kind of elecricaly protected psu with ur rig as im sure you no you pc aint cheap..

and as you only have the bare esstials you rig is fine you may get probs if u added more dvd/hd/fans to the pc but as it is youre fine with that 350

If you attempt to run a high end gfx card with a psu incapable of doing so it will just switch itself off, it will crash.
It will not lead to BF2 running worse, the computer just will not work.
There is no "middle ground" where it will run worse, it will either work or it wont, and I am sure that for anyone where their PC doesn't work, they have realised already :eyeroll:

so i take it that you have tryed running a underpowerd psu on a high end card then..which i doubt u have cus like you said it wouldnt work.
and plz explain why im an idiot?
idiots would be some one that puts a high end card on there system with a low powerd psu...

here is a fact for u ......gforce 6800gt ultra uses 110watts at max load if you dont belive me goggle it.

i can understand you going with the trend and not agreeing with me...
but i say this.there are ppl out there that think upgrading to a faster card will make there pc games run faster, which it should do(depending on cpu)
but some ppl dont take in to account the small print on there gfx card box when they buy it thats say minimum psu required!!!!!!!!!!
MINIMUM PSU ON A GFX CARD BOX MEANS IN LAMER TERMS A cpu WITH ONE HARDRIVE AND ONE CD ROM..
SO A LITTLE MATH WILL TELL U IF YOU WANT MORE HARDRIVES AND FANS ECT IT WILL TAKE THE POWER FROM THE CARD !!!!!

So i hope that makes sense to you and ppl who cant read my post, also if youre willing to risk youre new gear on a cheap underpower psu then im rofl when youre card fecks up on you...

There is no "middle ground" where it will run worse, it will either work or it wont, and I am sure that for anyone where their PC doesn't work, they have realised already :eyeroll:
also i never said anything about running a high end gfx on 300watt psu whitch obvioisly would do somthing like that.
I WAS TALKING ABOUT RUNING HIGH END EXTREMLY EXPENSIVE GFX CARDS ON PSU WITH LOW APERAGE AND RECOMENDED 500+WATTS WITH 30AMPARAGE,did you forget to read that bit or were you to busy thinking about getting youre pennys worth in.
its more of a warning to ppl who spend alot of money and want to protect there gear....
                              nothing idiotic about that!!!!!!!!
