good i have the same card and it states clearly on the box 300watt minmum for a 6600gt try a 7800gt and see what happens you wont get the performance upgrade u would expect with a 300 watt psu...but maybe you new that

None of your rant had anything to do with this thread at all.

Anyway, I doubt he works for a company that makes power supplies. I didn't see any links and I haven't looked it up, but are any of the companies he mentioned related? Didn't think I'd be sticking up for the guy, but if you're going to rail on someone, try to at least keep it to the person of target instead of thrashing the rest of the community as well, plus, maybe be accurate. It helps.
thanks for the backup on the rank thing apricate that, and just for the record i dont work for a psu company i posted a link with a good psu for ppl to look at as a guide not to make money or somthing..
i ow ya one for sticking up for me though

      @topicstarter , you crlearly don't know anything about PC's .

When you are gaming, you actualy only need power for CPU/GPU/chipset/RAM , this isn't so much as you think it would be , but most powersuplies just aren's stable at giving lots of power .

I have seen high end systems running perfectly with an PSU of 360W , but it's a quality PSU , and other systems crashing with 550W PSU's because they just suck.

My ping usualy averages 160, 120 being the acceptable ping for games. Why would anyone want to play on a server with a ping of 260 anyway? its just stupid.

well thank you for taking the time to make those pics, lmao if i new it was a notbook/laptop i would have agreed with you straight away, not meaning to be
trivial but i think a laptop ram is a little differnt performance wise compared to a pc running 512,but dont hold me to that.

i only agree beacuse i have a 2.4ghz laptop with 256 ram and used to use it as a server for bf1942 and handled 32bots no problem

ok i agree with you that some power supplys will do the job,
but i dont agree with u saying i dont no what im talking about.

here is a forum with an example of the piont im making plz take 2 mins to read, and see if u can change youre mind to my point thanks.

if i dont what im talking about then plz explain why lots of other ppl on the link agree with me!!

this one should put a smile on youre face,
try this simple test to determin what youre cpu needs psu wise...
note that not all gfx card brands are on here so if you have higher than 6800gt then u will have to take my word that u need 400min....
any way this is a good test that totaly free just simply click coresponding boxes to what you have running on youre rig and a ruff psu guide will show..

hope this clears up the problem at hand

You DO realize that I had to check absolutely everything on that page in order to reach 500 watts right? That includes two sound cards. Yeah. Once again, 500 is overkill.

Now look, that doesn't mean don't get a 500. It just means it's not required or even necissary. If you get a quality 500w then you wasted a crap load of money. As long as you buy quality, you can get an exact match for what you need and still be okay for upgrades. That's the entire point of everyone saying this thread was wrong to start.

JFI, I got the 500W 'cos I needed a new *quiet* PSU and the Antec Phantom 500W seemed just like that thing as it makes zero noise.

The only time I'd recommend a 500 as a necessity is if you had the kind of psu that also has a power out, which you can plug your monitor into, and the computer was running a sli setup with a sound card, tv tuner, a couple of pci cards, four plus hard drives, liquid cooling, four or five bay devices and a dual core/or two proc system.

Also, if your computer really ran at 500w, I woudn't suggest plugging anything else into that wall socket unless you had a UPS. But no one who's going to have a computer like that is looking to any of us for advice.

PTEGAN- don't even bother trying to figure this guy out, he's plain and simply insane.

morning how you, well unfortunaly that guide doesnt show higher than 6800gtultra,
i just put that up as a guide but if u have got a 7800gt then u need 400 minimum.
minimum is 1xcdrom and 1x hd as u can guess from the guide adding more will result in nearly peaking 500,
my piont is to show a guide so that ppl no im not talking BS,
just look at a 7800gt box it stats 400watt on the box.

as for non belivers why do they make sli ready psu ,cus sli needs even more power.

and for example a 400 watt psu wont max out a 400 there normally 70-80%effiecent.

mate i was only suggesting (cus i dont no how many things u have running on youre rig) just add a few more things that u may wish to add in the future, more of a j/k than a order

Q.1 why does recomending 500watt (qulity psu) result in being called insane?

Q.3 why risk top end eqipment on a low powered/cheap psu?

                          A. becuse youre ritch and can afford to replace all youre gear instead of investing in a good quility psu with extra power?

I have a 350W atm and I have no stability problems etc.? Wouldn't I beeing having alot of them if my PSU wasn't enough?
