Re: Good Teamwork in 3 Easy Steps... and you don't even have to join a squad.

Great post, to which I'd like to add an item: trust the commander.

Within limits of course; but if he's holed up and keeping the UAV flying full time and arty rolling, give him at least one chance. He knows more than you do.

I'm usually lone wolfing it in a squad of one, driving around in my air defense vehicle, shooting at airplanes, shaking my fist at them as they fly away smoking, providing fire support to my team at enemy bases as I approach, and capping abandoned bases that I can drive into. I try to watch the flow of battle and support whatever squads are doing in my area, but I can get distracted.

Fairly often, an engaged commander will tell me to hit a flag that's *not* where I'm planning to go -- out of my way, or hard/impossible to reach in the vehicle. Sometimes I'll say "no" when it's clearly *impossible* for me to comply, but generally I'll salute and hit it. Why? Because he knows more than I do. Usually, the base is empty, and it's free points for me.

Now, I quickly learn when a commander is just trying to use me as cannon fodder by telling me to cap a base full of defenders with SRAWs, and I take his orders with a very large grain of salt.

I say again, give your commander a chance.

If think you've hit on the point that the game works best when your in a squad. Better for commander, better for other players and better for yourself. I feel that the game should force people into squads to promote teamplay.

It can be so annoying being commander fighting a losing battle because you can't issue orders to un-squaded players, who could in turn change the tide of a battle by simply following orders.

The commander is a vital part of the round. They know all and should spot all. If only the game didn't play the soundbytes for spotting each enemy as it does get annoying and rather should just give the written warnings. If you are a player with a commander spotting, then you should keep one eye on the minimap for the spotted targets. It could save your life.

      My Summary
      1.) Force squads.
2.) Get rid of spotting soundbytes.

Buts thats just my opinion. Great Posts People. Keep it up:guns:

Honestly, even if people were in squads, they wouldn't listen.

The next best thing is to ask people to consider the team's interests and the interests of other players whenever they can. Back in BF1942 and BFV, everyone using this similar, common philosophy was the only factor yielding anything resembling "teamwork".

No, really. You state the common problems facing teamwork and how to overcome them easily and effectively.

I must agree with you on all of those points, playing as a team does make a difference, and the times i've helped people out and they've helped me out really does make the difference in the long run.
I was going say the same thing, only less eloquently...so, uh. ditto.

I think this also kinda falls under teamwork.. at least with the commander:

Anyone notice when you are a commander how frustrating it is when a squadleader or two absolutly REFUSE to click "yes" when you give them an order.

I noticed last night again.. there was a squad on their way to obviously cap the flag about 150 feet in front of them. I decided.. ok.. cool.. do that.. and hit "attack" I received an instant "NEGATIVE-NO CAN DO etc etc etc" Then watched as they proceeded to do it anyway.

for the sake of my peace of mind.. I would rather you just say YES SURE!! ROGER THAT!! and do whatever you want than basically spit in my face and then do what i suggested you do in the first place.
I mainly play in a squad, but lately have been the squad leader. I know how a squad should work and how to maintain flags. If I say "attack this flag" and 20 seconds later a commander tells me the same thing, I will deny his request.

I do this so my squad doesn't have to check their map to see we are going to the same place. The commander knows where I am going, so why bother to "tell" me to go to the same place.

I will obey a commander if they tell me why I am going there. I don't want to sound too arrogant, but there are things a SL needs consider that the commander can't know of. If a squad is using orders on the map, the commander should trust they are going to follow them.

              On topic:

Great post and I wish every one would keep this in mind. I say this to myself too many times. I find that most games you either lose or win by a decent amount of points because the teams aren't balanced. I would like to have more games there are won by fewer points, but tend to exchange side more.

Re: Good Teamwork in 3 Easy Steps... and you don't even have to join a squad.

no no.. not what i meant. say warlord for instance.. (this is where the event happened the other night) dude and one of his squad came out of the palace. I noticed the mosque was in SAS hands and when I did the scan there were no SAS to be found. he was near the fountain at the palace. I say.. attack here. He says "hell no" then proceeds to lead his squad to the flag and cap it. I figure.. he hit the wrong button. So by now the security place in front of the palace has been taken. i arty the heck out of the 14 SAS there leaving maybe two. I say attack here. He replies again with NO. then skips over there and captures it. mind you.. he was a gunny or msgt or something.. higher rank so i KNEW he KNEW better.. and thought.. this dude is F-ing with me.

the entire rest of the map was like that. (i had 6 squads.. all but two were following orders (he was one.) well.. he WAS following orders.. but basically just telling me NO all the time which somehow.. seemed to ruffle my in-game commander mind. (8 years in the Marines I am still a bit indoctrinated lol)

which basically.. brings me to my earlier point.. when i see whats going on .. say if i was in the same situation.. i will ALWAYS say "YES SIR!" if for no other reason than to make the commander feel warm and fuzzy. then i will do what I deem necessary for my team's/squad's survival and overall victory. (which is follow the commander's original order about 75% of the time) the other 25% I realize i have some moron commander who doesn't even know what a UAV is and thinks Arty is his uncle who just got out of prison and smells like sausage.

I mean, I've gotten used to commanders telling me to attack the point I just captured and cleaned out. No problem.
I've also gotten used to commanders telling me to attack somewhere into the punish zone, and having to guesstimate which flag he might want me to take. No problem.
But when a commander doesn't bother with looking at my squad's setup and whereabouts, I will outright f*ck-you him 100% of the time. I mean, sure, feel free to give a squad of specops guys busy with blowing the enemy assets up the order to repair your toys! Or tell a squad of AT guys and a support dude that "demolitions are needed here" (at the other end of the map, no less). Yeah, that's gonna help! It's gonna help you, the commander, with getting ignored by squadleaders. Them NO-ing your orders is just the last shred of decency and actual acknowledgement of your presence.
I can however offer you the consolation that usually that fades pretty fast and everyone will just quickly answer "yes" and go somewhere else anyway, or just let commander orders plain time out.

Then it's a wonder that anyone in BF1942, BFV, or DC ever won anything.

Spotting is key. It's soooo helpful and most of the time, people don't do it. Long ago I got into the habit of spotting everything BEFORE I even open fire. If you fail to kill them, at least someone has the heads up. And that happens a lot. And I also especially go out of the way to keep tanks spotted to give people warning to avoid or hunt them down.

Good points, when I'm not commander I usually operate as a lone wolf but I always make sure to keep an eye on other players, fav tactic of mine is to follow a squad at medium distance as a sniper and provide cover fire as they start capping the flag. When I'm medic or support I make sure to leave med or ammo bags in front of the moving army to keep em healthy and full of ammo. I dont understand medics and support ppl who just run by when someone is low on health or ammo...I mean...WHY are you med/support if you dont intend to do your job !
Also when I am commander I make sure to place arty strikes on enemy spanwpoints ahead of our attack wave, drop crates on the roads damaged tanks or wounded squads are traveling and most importantly indeed...I SPOT...I spot everything i can and leave the uav at critical points...one of the most important points to use the uav in my opinion is when a teammate is capping a flag...knowing if there are enemies arround and knowing where they are make your teammate feal more secure and will alos allow him to live that little longer as he is not attacked by surprise.
