  • Engineer needs rifle, or atleast a rifle unlock, here is why.

An army ranger currently stationed in Iraq sent this answer to my question of who gets a Shotgun as a loadout, and what the engineers actually carry.

ok now for the questions, one person from each of our squads carries the shotty, but they also have an M-4, the shotty is carried by the PSO (personnel security officer) for the BC (Battalion Commander, he is a full bird Colonel) and since i am the BC's driver the PSO rides with me, and when the PSO is pulling security lie a body guard he will use the shotty and lock the M-4 in the truck, on escort missions such as driving or whatever the shotty will be locked up, and sometimes the squad leader has a shotty too, other than that, us MP's have plenty of shotguns just in case a mission comes down for close quarters such as to raid a house.....as far as engineers are concerned, Battlefield 2 is incorrect, they do not carry shotty's, cause they encounter a problem with shooting themselves in the legs, when sliging a shotgun its easy to snag gear and have a round neglegent discharge, cause they have to crouch alot to set up **** and check for mines, or explosives, so engineers carry 9mil pistols and M-4 Rifles, but the same thing, a squad leader or a team leader will be able to carry a shotgun, its really totally up to the Birgade or Battalion commander of each section what they carry

Well, I was an engineer in the Army, and in Iraq we did carry shotguns, Mossberg 12gauge to be exact. One guy per squad had one.

Though to be fair, we all had another firearm, M16A2/4 or an M4, some carried SAWs, and one carried the M240B (also carried 9mm).

But then again, in RL, the engineer thaat would fix your tank (wouldn't be an engineer at all, would be a mechanic) wouldn't be the same one that layed mines, so....oh what, it's a game.

Can it actually hit something more than 15 feet away?

The mp5 sucked so bad i figured the mp7 would too.

It's better than the Mp5 at least.

No it's actually a pretty good unlock. It has a high rate of fire and it's quite accurate.

Hell, it's worth it just for the sound!

The MP7 rocks. It has only 20 rounds per clip like the G3 but it is amazingly accurate.

Looks like spec ops should be realisticaly the engineer and the engineer should be like crew chief or something.

mp7 is pretty accurate, more so than the AK I believe.

Anyway, I don't think this truly has relevance to the game. Why? Because 1) if squad leaders are the ones with shotties, they'd have to overhaul the whole game and change the squad system 2) The commander doesn't chose who gets what weapon in BF2 3) The anti-tank, who's equipped for taking down vehicles at LONG RANGE has a close range weapon, the sniper, who's supposed to hang out in high places, has the zipline instead of grappling hook (in SF). And the spec ops class has a long range weapon, despite that they tend to be the most agressive. I think DICE did this to make no kit the dominator in a certain setting. In the real military that's what they want, but not in a DICE game. As an engineer I don't do much indoor fighting, so it would seem more tactically wise that I have a long range weapon while spec ops has the short range weapon.

As for realism, well...guess the could only have so many MP weapons.

the squad leader has that in addition to another firearm....thats my understanding of what was said. It would be useless useless doing security or building clearing activities.

actually AK is not accurate at all, it just does massive damage. the first two bursts do hit targets, but the recoil is high when you spray with AK.

well back to topic, i think the shotguns in BF2 are not bad if u know how to use them. one shot one kill in close combat, 2 - 3 shots a kill at medium range.

The MP-7 is great---all you need to do is get used to it---very nice unlock and makes the enginneer a good kit with the original unlock

Or do it as project reality mod - let the engineer choose between buckshot, and slug ammo for his shotty.
                            I love the slugshots

Yes the MP7 is a good replacement, if you learn how to shoot it, it becomes a deadly weapon.
