well one thing that would change was the way teammates run over my mines ....

the red skull would have a new meaning to them, instead of "i'm so uber cool i'm goin to make that guy lose points" it would be "i gotta go around or i'll lose a point"

      That's a great point.
Another example of the need to be aware of your surroundings.
In time people would even learn to look for Enemy mines. It would be a learned gaming survival instinct.

You know...you're the second person to say this and I still fail to see why it would promote more snipers.
The sniper is not the semi-safe class it was in other games.
Between the Commanders scans and UAV and people spotting, snipers get revealed all the time.

Can you please explain this "more Snipers" reasoning instead of being vague and posting 2 words?

Hmm I'm in two minds about this idea.

The good thing is this idea will promote alot more teamplay within squads. You'll find that the commander will become more responsible for his men, and squad leaders would aswell. Rushing into gunfights would see alot of points be lost. You'd need to sit back a few seconds, think of some tactics, and then do some flanking to get the enemy. I love playing in squads like this, where everyone is mic'd up and communicating constantly - with a squad leader that leads, and doesn't just sit there trying to look pretty (like most do!)

The bad thing is points will be lost. Now we all whinge about 'point-whores', however the nitty gritty of this game is points, and I hate to admit that. We play to get points, we play for promotion, we play for better weapons. There will be people who don't like teamplay, and like being Rambo, who will simply run in, bang-bang, die, and end up -50 points at the end of the map. They'll get bored, ****ed off, start teamkilling, start exploiting, and ruin it for the rest of us.

Thats just my opinion, I explect flaming to begin

EDIT: Oh didn't see page 2 So adding to the comment above about 'teamates running over mines' .. god I hope something is implemented for this. Maybe instead of -1pt for death, you just get -1pt for running over an AT Mine, and you cannot punish!

Don't forget that the point loss for death is only -1.
Getting kills, Capping Flags etc are still multiple points.
Hopefully your 'positive' point making will out-weigh your dying.

Re: How would gameplay change if you lost a point when you got killed??

Yea, sure, you lose only a point for dying. But what happens in those cases where all the flags but one have been taken, and the enemy team is camping your last spawn point. Everytime you spawn, you have no chance to defend yourself or take cover as some sniper or tank rapes you hard. And couple that with artillery. If it's your last spawn point, chances are the enemy commander will be bombarding the hell out of it. So if you spawn, are able to survive any spawn campers, there's still a chance you'll get blown to pieces by artillery fire. In essence, why get punished for some form of death that was totally inevitable. There's a difference between running in rambo style, purposely choosing death, and spawning and within a second being killed before you even have a chance to move.

Plus, what about noobs to the game? Chances are they'll be doing a lot of dying. Will punishing them for this be fair? They're learning the game. Sure, it'll force them to act as a team to stay alive. But even when they come across their first encounter with the enemy, if they're new to the game, they may not be used to the controls or how the recoil/accuracy of each gun works, so they'd still end up dying if the enemy singled them out.

This -1 point penalty is a good idea for getting people to play more realistically, but it forces players to 1) not play the way they want to play, and 2) can be a pain in the ass for noobs and victims of the abusers of the game's system.

Note: Only the first guy who gets to a flag and neutralizes/captures it gets 2 points for each. Anyone else who comes to aid him only gets 1 point for each.

Re: How would gameplay change if you lost a point when you got killed??

:)the base raping point is valid, i'll give you that, but newcomers to this game would hopefully be aware that being aware of your surroundings and the enemy was part of the game. the few seconds of invulnerablility would help prevent this also, which needs to be in place anyways. one of the oldest and best video games ever made, super mario bros. implemented it for the very reason that any new spawner could be up against odds that are unfair (i know its a dinosaur, but its just an example). anyway, newcomers to the game already have the odds stacked against them, considering bunnyhoppers, dolphin divers, c4 chuckers, and the likes. yes, some of these things will be fixed, that's why we are maturely discussing other options that could help balance vs experience in this game.:)

ps, also, ever since the beginning of this game i was surprised there was no penalty for being killed, except simple addition of a death stat.

I thing that obviously game time would change, for better or worse, who knows. Also not all people with less than 1 ratios are poor or unskilled players. I have plenty of military experience, however i dont bunny hop and dont fly, both seem to be great ways to pump up the points. I also dont play commander all that often. U want a KD over 1 just do all the above. I just like to run around and shoot, very cathartic for some. I just wish there was more co-ordinated team stuff.

i have to comment on this again, because it dawned on me while i kept storming the US main (i was US) so i could recapture it to get the chopper and our assets back. i was in a scrim as a ringer and i realised at some point, we were not bleeding and we were playing well enough at 10v12 that we werent going to get capped out. i had the highest death count of anybody and it dawned on me, because of this post alone, that i should be taking my time to infiltrate our base. toward the end of the match we almost got the main back, and for having 2 less than the other team we did rather well. my point is in situations where you are not bleeding tickets taking your time and scoping situations out and thinking tactically really are answer to acheiving a victory in this game. i've, since reading this post, been posting this question in other forums and the weird thing is most people wouldnt have a problem with it, or at least that i have come in contact w/. it really would cause some hesitation in some people, especially since this game is all about points. like last night when i was on a server w/ autobalance off and i was on a team of 6 against 11 and they kept on coming and kept on capping on mashtuur like teams were even. my point there is, if points are so precious to people why not make a penalty for dieing so it takes a lil more thought process than kill, kill, kill. my 2 cents worth yet again.
