How would gameplay change if you lost a point when you got killed??

I'm not sire if this has ever been brought up.
My buddy and I were talking and he brought up a good point.
Both he and I tend to keep a close eye on our KD ratio. We just feel it's one of the more important stats. Our opinion anyway.
We were wondering how gameplay would be affected if you lost a point when you got killed.

We think it could actually be a positive for gameplay because as it is now there are no consequences for dying (Other than Suicide).
Being that BF2 is not DM (Death Match) there is very little negative impact to getting killed. Ok...so you have to respawn and high-tail it back to where you were, but that's not what I mean.
People that go all 'Rambo' charging in to situations know that if they get killed they will just respawn and start all over but hopefully they'll take a few people before they die.
If you knew you were going to loose a point if you got killed I don't think you'd see the 'gung-ho' approach to gameplay you would see more tactics/stealth/cover.

Now of course in that would also mean that your Global Points would go up slower than they do now.

There are some people in the top leader boards that actually have KDR's below 1.0. This means that they are dying more than they are killing. All that means to me is that these people are point whores and have little actual combat skill in the game.
It would actually raise the importance of killing too instead of just "point Gathering"

    What do you guys think?

Not much I think, there's still so many noob-launchers out there willing to sacrifice themselves (and that way lose 2 points) just to get their enemy.

I try not to die anyway, except today when I wanted my expert knifebadge and I died like 14 times, but I got it! :P

Umm there would be people with negative scores because not everyone can have a greater than 1:1 k/d ratio. Those people would probably quit in anger.

Oh and I would guess, there would be more camping. Why risk running around when you can hide in a corner and kill the people as they run by?

I think more people would focus on teamwork points where it is safe. Farther away from enemies.

Has it ever entered your brain that some ppl might go for TEAMWORK points instead of kills? This would TOTALY imbalance the game towards spawn campers and aircraft because you die so little. In other words, bad idea.

I dont like that idea. I have a pretty bad kill to death ratio, mainly because i snipe and its hard to move around and try not to get seen, so i usually stay in one place for a few minutes....i dont get to many kills.

But one of the real reasons is i usually hitch a ride and help take over bases, but i usually get killed in those.

Yes we know that there would be people with negative scores. There already are and some are board leaders. They're not quiting.

People can still gather points in a 'Teamwork' Fashon but staying alive will become more of a priority than it is now.

Everybody would become snipers in order to stay alive.

Yea and then no one would actually get any kills.

Really, It was just a thought to try and stimulate the combat side of the game away from Quake style of play.
Try and have a bit more importance on tactical combat.

Personally, many of the core BF community doesn't like the Rambo kind of gameplay.

Remember though, I said 1 point. Killing soemone gets you 2, assists 1. Flag Capture gets 4 assists 2.
1 Point because you failed to keep your head down is not that much of a penalty but it is an incentive.

Oh yea, I failed to mention that we were talking about ideas for their next game.
There's too many things that would need to be changed at this point.

They need to make mods like this, example:warcraft mod for CS...they should make it so certain servers, if they wanted it, could download and use it...so people that wanted to play this way could, I would want to try it out, might be more fun with people working together more, and everybody in squads utilizing med/support more.

I had this idea before. I do think that this would make score a better representation of skill (the most aggressive, not the most helpful are the ones with the best score). I bet if you did this people would forget about k/d ratio and just look at score (and maybe win/loss ratio).

Think of it this way, if someone gets a kill/death ratio of 2:10 with no caps/assists (causing the enemy team to lose 2 tickets and their team to lose 10) and someone else gets a k/d ratio of 1:0 with no caps or assits(causing the enemy team to lose 1 ticket and their team to lose none) who get's the higher score? The first guy, the one who is the liability.

And no, it wouldn't lead to more camping as long as teamwork is still rewarded. It would have the appropriate amount of camping (the amount that was best for the team).

It would just annoy me, and make me doubly ****ed when I get killed by artillery.
