Hit the brakes! Did you take a preexisting HD with OS loaded + all your personal apps and data and put it into a brand new system (new system / processor) ???? I mean, did you format it and start over or just take it as-is and put it into new system. Regardless of your answer, when the current HD got put into this 64 Athlon who loaded the OS and did they do all drivers?

so im gonna do that and if it dont work hasta lavista to bf2 until i buy my geforce. thanks for the help guys
Please don't tell me you are giving up until you get a video card!! There's a good chance that isn't even your problem. Don't get lazy, we will fix this. Where do you live? What city/state? If it is at all comforting, I've switched video cards and gone from regular monitor to flat screen since I got BF2. BF2 crashed back to desktop after both changes. I had to delete (or alter) the profiles before I could get it working again. The screen refresh rate was also an issue. The file I gave you below sets your monitor for a refresh of 60. That's good for testing.

I built these 2 files for you. Overwrite the data in your files with this info. If either file is missing from your dirs, don't worry about it. Take all dirs that end with 0002, 0003 and higher and delete them (or copy them somewhere as a backup). Just make sure they are gone. Only leave 0001. That dir is the first profile which you created when you first installed BF2.

    File locations:
    \my docs\battlefield 2\profiles\default\audio.con
    \my docs\battlefield 2\profiles\default\video.con

    \my docs\battlefield 2\profiles\0001\audio.con
    \my docs\battlefield 2\profiles\0001\video.con

    new audio.con:
    AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 0
    AudioSettings.setVoipPlaybackVolume 1
    AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureVolume 1
    AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureThreshold 1
    AudioSettings.setVoipBoostEnabled 0
    AudioSettings.setVoipUsePushToTalk 1
    AudioSettings.setProvider "software"
    AudioSettings.setSoundQuality "Low"
    AudioSettings.setEffectsVolume 0.619284
    AudioSettings.setMusicVolume 0
    AudioSettings.setHelpVoiceVolume 0.568144
    AudioSettings.setEnglishOnlyVoices 0
    AudioSettings.setEnableEAX 0

    new video.con:
    VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 1
    VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 1
    VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 0
    VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 3
    VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 2
    VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz
    VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off
    VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 0.9
    VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3

If you still have problems starting the game then I want to go back to the start of this post. Did you reformat drive before putting it in this system or take drive right from old system? This is important.

                Re: Upgrade got worse...

I talked to an EA level 2 tech rep today..

He thinks its a firmware driver issue on my system...
The 1.12v Patch failed during install, but yet installed says Successful...

Im about done with this ****... til the next patch comes out...
                I will keep you posted...

                I think its a 1.12 patch issue...
Reason being... I can Load the game and play prior to 1.12v patch..
Then install the patch and it wont load past the BF2 Splash intro screen...

*had to install in SAFEMODE.... which I haven't ever done with any other games... EVER.

                Sucks...
                SUCKS...
When U have the itch to play, but you can't.... ****.

i just got a geforce fx 5200 for free can run all settings on high. my problem was that my motherboard wasnt good enough to support the slackiness of the video card. i either needed a different mobo or a faster video card and i got the video card about an hour ago. it'll do until my 6800. go to tech-revolution.net they will help u there basket they helped me :)

Return the MOBO and get an ASUS mobo and go to 2gig ram. Any NVIDIA based 256 meg card will get you real happy.

I know what ya mean, I saved for my MOBO for 6 months. Can you imagine 6 months of no BF2?

                              Re: Upgrade got worse...

That makes sense. I knew your problem wasn't BF2. BTW...never take a drive from old system and put it into new one as is. Always reformat and start over by loading OS from scratch. If you don't do that then one or more of the many hardware drivers installed by the OS will not be right. It will lead to never-ending problems.

Did tech-rev specifically say your video card and motherboard were the problem? What did they say?
