When I started gaming it was in the 80's on Amiga rigs considered the best of the day. Then Commodore 64's eventually going into the IBM 486's with 2 meg of video memory and maybe a little ram. They wrote and packaged MANY games over the years that were wonderful single player.

The original ww2 fighter games with telephone multiplayer (Either peer to peer or perhaps a college lan if you were lucky) A fast 14.4 K modem with the best in hardware was where you gained the edge in being able to execute manuvers first before the opponet understood what was happening.

But I did not understand what it really took to play online wargames such as DFLW, BHD or BF 1942. Those games were on a Dell computer on a dailup with a 32 megabyte 3D video card. I was enjoying a 500 ping, 10 frames a second if that... and perhaps a 5400 or 7200 IDE drive.

None of that crap worked because those with cable or DSL pwned especially when they ran faster CPU's, RAM RAID etc etc etc...

I sold my junk used the seed money to upgrade and eventually resold until i could build a system for gaming and video processing. This is something that took me about 20 years to get to this point and I already can see much faster systems planned for a bit more money... savings each month towards it little by little.

DICE and BF2 can hopefully assist by having everyone load in and wait together until the timer runs out and start the game all at once.. Best from multipule spawn points instead all over the single tank.

I reflected upon this thread at work today and understand that I may not be liked or even popular because of my hardheaded and "Heavy" attitdue towards certain things in gaming. But I have to tell you that HARDWARE and FAST connections (Soon to be fiber optics) will ALWAYS rule. The rest simply will have to either upgrade or buy bigger and better systems. That is the simple truth.

I realize that some folks may be in high school and not able to have LEET rigs yet. But we were loading off tape cassetes in our high school on a monochrome monitor drooling over the colors and floopys in our day. In a way let us guide you with what works and what does not.

When you are in a virtual battle with another human on the net in a war situation you CANNOT let anything slow you down or you wind up having to respawn or worse.. lag out.

I hate to think what gaming will be in 20 years when we all Run computer games that are in a optical form and work way way faster than copper circuts on a today's mother board can ever do.

Best of luck! Remember... Hardware is CHEAP.. it's the software that is getting bloated and more demanding each year.

Thats funny. When I started playing BF1942 at the age of 24 I had a self built PC. It was an...

      Abit BD7II raid
      P4 2.53Ghz @ 3.2Ghz
      2 x 256 PC2100
Nvidia TI 4400 (upgraded to 9700 pro 3 months later)
      2 x 120Gb WD 8mb Raid 0
      CD burner
      19 inch flat trinitron

I was also playing on a 512 download/256 upload cable connection.

So did someone hurt your feelings by telling you that you PC and connection were crap? Thats all I can think as an explaination as to why you are being a prick.

A prick? that is your problem.

As far as feelings there are none related to any hurt ones. I knew with the rig I had then did not measure up.

Time to upgrade and build anew. Presto! A better rig.

You have to understand that feelings or saying bad things does nothing on forums, remain on the subject and you will be fine.

Re: Server admins, please increase the waiting time before the game starts!

I didnt really read into this thread too much, call it end of '05 lazyness, but there's issues beyond how 1337 your rig is. My rig gets in just fine, but having the extra time would still be nice.

I'm not talking about those servers where I've had to wait 60-120 seconds to play, just something more than the standard 15 seconds.

Why u ask? Couple of reasons, and all selfish on my part. Squad formations - especially when your in TS, custom squads, etc.....

And Commanding. I command part-time, depending on whats going on / map / etc... If its Karkand, and I decide to command, I'd like to know I'm accepted for this postion before I get in the game --- if so, then I'm sitting back at my main, as an engineer or specops, and I'll stay there. If not, I'm going assault and getting into the battle. Stinks to pick engy on the US side and have to hoof it from the back base after someone w/higher rank ganked the CO position from me

I agree on longer waiting times before game starts.
I have our PoE BF2 server at 45 seconds.

Even though I'm always one of the few people on a map, I TOTALLY agree with this.

It's completely unfair that some players always spawn before other and have access to vehicles/equipment and can sometimes take a tactical advantage.

I've been on a few servers with waiting times and it usually ends up in everybody tk'ing each other for the jets. Leave it as is, so I can get the jet.

                  This wouldn't be bad though.

All that needs to be done is to require a certain percentage of players on each team to have loaded, maybe 6 per side in a 32 palyer game and 10 per side in a 64. Once that many people load then everyone can spawn.
