DOD Source sucks, if you want WW2 on the Source engine wait a few months and '1944 D-Day' or Resistance and Liberation' will be out, and they'll cost you nothing.

Too bad I can't play, been 2 months and Valve still haven't bothered to release a update to fix 1000's of peoples problems.

Oh my gosh, ive been playing Half Life: Source and actually got stuck and i didn't know where to go so i just started up Half Life 2: Deathmatch. Wow, my dah-dam, these graphics are amazing and the performance is incredible! Why can't bf2 have this kind of performance and graphics?????

i would've put .bmp images but at that resolution the file would be too big and it would take a lot of time to load.

          My computer kicks 360's asse

Half life 2 game was great to me, lot of varity but I wish they made the guns more accurate. It can get rather annoying to unloaded 2 clips with the machine gun into a gun and see all the bullets just going all around him. That and the ending was possibly the worst ending Ive seen in any game of this year. Other then that CSS is fun and the single player never gets boring. The gravity gun is always a blast.

Id say get Hl2 Silver edition for $60, you get every game ever made on either the Hl1 or Source engine.

Is HL:Source actually better than the original? Ie, better gfx, new levels, or is it the exact same game?

WHere are you stuck? I think i can remember most of HL on PS2, lol.

HL2 is way more optimized than alot of the other games out. you can usually run on high with a high lower end computer. im running a RAdeon 9550 256mb and i can get a pretty smooth FPS

HL:Source is the original as far as the core engine is concerned. They only changed/tweaked the name because they reworked its configuration so it would be dependent on stupid Steam.

There's actually a TC mod team out there that is recreating (from scratch) HL1 using the HL2 engine. It's been eons since I kept tracked of anything HL related, so I don't have the link anymore, nor do I know if they finished or even gave up. Just search the Stream forums, I guess, if you want more info.

yeah, well i dunno how the original looked but hl: source actually looks pretty nice, especially the water.

Actually i heard thats the thing they changed, they put it on the new source engine, thats why its called Half Life source (the name of the hl2 engine is source). What i know they did was put the orginal half life on the newer source engine that they did in half life 2. What i was also thinking about is how they had the 1600 x 900 resolution option for the first hl. Of course i enabled it and its really nice, but in 1998 how many games had a 1600 x 900 resolution option? I think that was added along with support for 7.1 surround sound. They just added little things here and there, not too much different, but its really nice, especially for a game created in 1998. I dont have the original to tell you all the differences but i can tell you that the menu is damn nice, i dunno if they changed that or what. Also the performance is so nice it seems like you get 300 fps constant :). However if i owned the original before i pronanly wouldn't have bought it, unless you're a diehard.

Oh and about where i was stuck,, could be the only reason goty edition could be considered bad. It was right at the end of "on the rail" and there were some green crates, and i didn't know you culd just jump over them with jump crouch so i was stuck looking for tunnels all over for a day. Then i broke down and found on the interent that there was a move called crouch jump, and goty edition does not have a readme or manual, and ive never played hl before so i didn't even know the move existed. While im at it are there any other moves that are important that i could've missed. Just for the record goty edition does have a quick reference card with a little information on it (front and back) with some moves and a tiny troubleshoot area. So anyways i was stuck for a day only to learn it wasn't my fault. By the way i did not look on in the review so nothings spoiled :). I haven't even played Half Life 2 yet, im still on Half Life: Source, at APPREHENSION. Although i did play hl2: deathmatch once....

Thats a bit lame - no manual. Good to hear you found it out anyway.

Oh, as for HL2, I found it a bit complicated with the storyline of HL1 - it doesn't seem to fit, and takes a bit of explaning. Well, i did play HL1 last about 3 years ago, so i either didn't understand the story (what there was) or i've forgotten it, lol.

                            HL1 is a BIG game.

Well, doing a little research, it seems what Valve did was a very simple direct port. Nothing new was added, and no new "features" of the engine were utilized. In other words, the pixels drawn on the screen using the Source engine look exactly the same as the one that were drawn on the screen using the original engine.

The models are the same; the textures are the same; and the effects are the same. And speaking from experience since I have played both variants, I can assure you that they look identical.

The TC mod I was referring to recreates the HL1 world using all the bells and whistles that come with the HL2 engine, i.e., the models, textures, and effects are all updated. It's called Black Mesa: Source (link).

Edit: And since undoubtedly you won't take my word for it, here's a little "official" review of HL:Source: GameSpy | Half-Life: Source.

Yeah you're right, but using an engine (or atleast a better one) can increse performance as well. And the 1600 x 900 and 7.1 surround sound i bet were updates for the game.
