It's a "Y" not a "V". And it means "Game of the year".

yeah, as explained above, GOTY means Game of the Year, i should have said that earlier lol.

Contains Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Half-Life: Source.

so game of the year edition has the first one as well? I heard they put the first one in a new valve engine, in the anthology collection. Is the first one, if its in the goty edition, on the new engine as well?

HL2 is awesome, only thing it needs is a proper mod to bring heavy firefights as they should be.

Also with mods in HL and HL2 valve realesed the source code for the engine so you can edit it to your hearts content, which basically means you can make any game out of it if you have the time and the skills.

Whoa that would be nice, i took some action script programming classes but don't know too much, but the oppurtunity is there.

So anyway, my HL2 story. After all you guys convinced me this is the greatest game of all time, along with other reviewers and critics i decide to go out to Best Buy and use this best buy certificate i got, only to find the place packed and so many games sold out. Bf2 special forces was gone along with all Half Life 2 versions. So there re-stocking tomorrow so thats where ill be. I couldn't believe how empty the games were. It looked like Best Buy got pillaged.

Can't wait to get my new pc now, I'm waiting to play all these games that i can't until i've got it, lol. I just received today Quake 4 and the movies.

On topic - these heavy firefights you say - anyone here know much about modding source? We could form a team and make a mod, lol.

Alrighty! Today is the day i get the "best game ever." The pc guy at Best Buy said there were restocking today so hopfully i will able to grab HL2 GOTY edition before it sells out again. Wish me luck.

Hahaha I got the Half Life GOTY Edition! Whooooo, it comes with, Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Lost Coast, Half Life 2: Deathmatch, Half Life: Source, and Counter-Strike: Source. All that for 39.99, when at Fred Meyer they're selling just Half Life 2 alone for 54.99, man did i get the deal. Right now im on the first one and just got to the surface at last and now am going back under to escape major military fire. Please do not tell me what happens, cause right now its really interesting. Sure is a lot of blood though, lol, but its all good.

Hound_dawg, how many updates did you need to download after buying the game? I hope the GOTY is more uptodate than the normal edition. Good deal btw.

yeah actually not that many, to put it into perspective, i have 56k and downloaded HL2 updates in 5 minutes, HL2 Lost Coast 5 min, Counter-Strike 20 mins, HL:Source 2 min, HL: Deathmatch 20 minutes. So all those updates on a 56k connection in a short amount of time means the files were small and it is pretty up-to-date.
