Half Life series.

I've become quite interested in this series, and heard from friends, reviewers, and everybody that its the best game(s) out there. Anyone play the first half life? I heard the story is one of the best, and now Valve put the singleplayer on a new engine in a collecters edition. Would that increase the graphics or just performance and sound? I'm really considering getting this and Half Life 2 which really got a lot of awards as well. I love gaming, and feel i would be missing out on the whole fps genre if i didn't experience the game. For those of you that have it, could ya tell me about it?

HL2 is amazing the engine is alot of fun, the gravity gun is fun as hell.

I played through the story today and its still amazing. Best PC game to date, only gripe is the enemies just sit there and shoot you. Execpt those Pesky Hunter Choppers. Curse you!!!

Recently re-installed half life 2, and with an nvidia 6800, this game still looks as good as some games out now! I mean, when you go under water and come back up, your gun and arm is wet! Then it drys right infront of you! Amazing shine on the walls and floors. Textures are still very detailed. Gameplay is fun. Really great game.

The HL2 Source engine is one of the best out I think, along with the CryEngine (used in Far Cry). The gravity gun is the best weapon in a PC game yet... by far. It owns. You can pick up paint tins and shoot it at your enemy, covering them in a sheet of thick paint. The graphics are just utterly gorgeous and the physics are fantastic, allowing your victims to fall like rag-dolls after you have killed them. The story, probably the best story in a PC game, ever.

wow, this sounds really awesome. Great visuals, gameplay, and story. Wow. So the programming is pretty clean and you get good performance for what you have?

Yea the optimization beats the hell out of BF2. Looking at your spec's you should be able to play the game perfectly!

Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are the BEST two games I have ever played. It is a MUST for any gamer.

OMG the half life 2 garry's mod IS SO AWSOME! its takes physicss to the next LEVEL. You can make cannon or you own vehicle. I made one with no wheels. Just jets and spinning blades.

I'm getting my grubby mitts soon on HL2 GOTY edition - Hound_Dawg, you should check this out.

It includes Half Life 2 and HL2 Deathmatch... but also Half Life source.. both games... damn right.

EDIT: Wow, Black Mesa Source looks wack. That should rock. (but i'm still getting GOTY, i cant be arsed to download 3 days of updates of Steam.
