Re: Core Issues: Matters of Stealth

Today i was in karkand and up went the uav, and I noticed an enemy coming from the corner just beyond me, so i pulled out my knife and killed him as soon as he came around. Yes, the uav is cheap but the game is so fast paced that it really isn't bothersome to me whatsoever.

I was playing Karkand earlier... felt like Quake DM. Far too chaotic.

Same with me, it was sortof funny, so much **** going on, tubers flying round, people whining but no-one could see what they rought because of people chucking ammo/med packs. No-one knew what was happening. I only use the tube when the games gone tube crazy, if you can't beat them, join them. So much crap was going no-one knew what was happening and I gave up trying to spray everyone with my PKM. Can't wait to rub it in to the tubers after 1.2 .

Oh and to top it all of, the commanders were rushing like crazy arty the place here and there wiping everyone out.

I just like how there are UAVs and arty falling every 15 seconds. Surviving for more than a minute at a time takes an act of God.

Stealth is for nubs. :) Okay, maybe not. In clan matches, you will learn to respect your UAV. Its a life-saver.

There can be stealth in this game. That what SF is for.
Stealth in SF??? Have you ever played it? I bought the game because I thought that would be the case. But like the original post said the UAV and scan ruin that.

silly me for assuming that a game called Special Forces would actualy try to recreate the experiance of being in the Special Forces. I still play BF2 95% of the time

Re: Core Issues: Matters of Stealth

You can survive on most maps with heavy UAV use by keeping a distance from spawn areas (from the perspective of sniper). From the perspective of special ops, by picking the right place to infiltrate, scans/uav or no, you'll still be able to slip right by, why? Because I have seen in playing, if you are off on a side of the map where nobody else is, unless you are the last player, very few people will bother with trying to find/kill you, even if the commander points you out, calls artillery, and/or uses a UAV over you.

There are times of course where the inability to 'hide' is pretty annoying though and while I disagree with making vehicles invisible, I do think that the UAV/scan shouldn't be able to detect people in buildings, or if it does, the dot should be fuzzier and less accurate, ie, indicating a general location but not a specific one. I think the easiest thing that could help out stealth in the game would be to make the UAV/scan charge take much longer, as it is now, as a commander, between scan and UAV, there are only maybe a few seconds in a 20-30 minute battle, where you don't have access to where every player on the other team is located...by making the charge time longer, you'll at least make it a little more rewarding for the already nerfed sniper class...

                  Just my 2 cents...

what about taking out the assets? i think that is the point.

you want stealth? play with a good spec ops guy that devotes his life to taking out other commander/assets.

i do it every now and then.. if you make a concentrated effort.. you can keep their assets off more than on.

I covered that already. Considering that some assets are in very remote places (such as on an off-shore aircraft carrier), that option is not always a viable one.

OMG Great post and good topics/replies. I am laughing, though. Here's why:
Last night I fired-up BF2:MC on the ol' XBOX cause there are 4 new maps and new vehicles and I wanted to check them out. It was fun, and interesting but OMG if you thought this was bad, try BF2:MC where every enemy in your 'vicinity' has a bright RED reticle-box on them that you can see through buildings, behind hills, etc. It is horrible for stealth. The game turns into "Hunt for the Red Box"

                          No, I'm not British.

I just wasn't aware that MEC and PRA forces fought in WWII. Much less fought with PKM, T-90s, Eryx missles, AK 101s, etc.

Excellent post, and i loved these books when i was a lad.

I agree with alot of your points but one i think everyone overlooks is why the sniper shows up on compass/map etc when they are supposedly comouflaged (fair if they are spotted by infantry but not lying in wait from a uav in deep forest).

one change i would like to see is an arming time on the M203 (until it travels a certain time/distance it wont arm which will put a stop to point blank noob tubing).
