    Re: Holding Actions

We play like this every night....you really should check out BSF next time you play.

We do alot of the "right" things that people describe in this forum.

Gonna bump this for the attention of the large number of new folks around here.

Holding actions are HUGE! It's not easy, but it can be damned effective. It's also lots of fun to watch the enemies capping force smash themselves against your defence like waves against a sea wall.

        Re: Holding Actions

wasn't a holding action on a flag, but was still great fun as it seemed to cause us to win the game.

the server was set-up to play each map 3 times. we were playing (damn forgot the name) its the map with arty island, chinise have an uncappable airfield, and the US have a carrier.

well first 2 games we were getting the crap kicked out of us due to there commander using his arty strikes with skill and, well our commander wasn't.

so on the last game me and 2 friends got onto arty island and took them out, one was support, one medic and me playing spec-ops. well they must have got ****ed as they sent there BH and 2 boats to take us out, so bout 5-6 ppl total.

we managed to see them off, till we all got killed, but we kept going back, ended up spending all the game on the island, and they always seem to fly a BH over, so there was always plenty of action and they used up 5-7 ppl most of the time trying to stop us, plus they had no arty. which made us win the last game.

but defending that island was some of the best fun i've ever had. or would that count as attacking, even though we held it through most the game? as we were attacking there arty?

          Re: Holding Actions

Yup, I think that counts as holding since you effectively captured and were holding their artillery.

            Re: Holding Actions

Wargimp, this post is our group's motto and some maps (Karkand and Sharqi). The main capturable bases represent more than just a flag. They have commander's assets and some important vehicles.

We are really good at defending/attacking these bases. Most the time, it's not very exciting, but we do it for the benefit of the team. Some times, it's like you described, enough action to keep you from falling asleep and a decent score to show for it.

As I mentioned in another post, defense of flags is flawed because of artillery and on occasion a jet. It gets frustrating being blasted into the air by an artillery shell you can't see or hear (the first one at least).

Also remember that only certain flags are worth defending. In Fushee pass, too many people like to defend the East Mine Entrance. All you get at the flag is a few jeeps. It makes more sense to defend the flags that are nearest to each main base. There you go two APCs plus a couple of jeeps.

              Re: Holding Actions

The 3 best games I've ever had were with [TG]Messiah, We would hold the Sharqi TV station, The Stalemate Fish Factory, and Daging's Central Base. The enemy may get the base for a short while, but we would always hold it for about 99% of the map. Some times we'd lose the round, but I've never had so much fun losing in my entire life.

                Re: Holding Actions

I like to defend at times as well. My fav is Sharqi for USMC. I normally work the Hotel flag, loads of action there. If the MEC gets the Hotel early, the TV station always falls shortly thereafter since it is a close CP for them to respawn in. When the USMC has the Hotel, you can be the front lines for stoppin gthe MEC helicoptor. It is loads of fun watching their chopper come in on the TV station looking for easy kills only to rip it to pieces with the two HUMVEES working together. Add a guy near the TOW to keep the jeeps away, and a couple of guys to watch up the hill for bad guys and you can hold this for a long time.

You can actually make pretty good points defending with a squad. It is amazing how many times you see guys rushing a flag without any real plan, so picking them off with some team defense is actually pretty easy. Alot of guys will even make the same attack run several times in a row assuming you have wandered off.

I like the idea of adding a point for a defender that makes a kill while they are in the flag radius, even if the baddie is not, would help encourage those that play with some patiance.

Hehe, I love it when that happens.

I just had a great round holding a CP against a lot of armour. The enemy was actually playing smart and rolling in collums. I was impressd. Unfortunatly, for them, my squad held a ridge that they weren't expecting us on. Got 'em in a crossfire between our APC and a TOW at the CP and my boys. We had two ATs (me included) a medic and a resupply. We did some serious damage.

They pushed at us full force four times... and we held the line. Finally, a couple of our guys managed to sneak cap the flag that all the armour was coming from.

                  Intense round.
                  I'm gushing. :p

most of the examples arent really good here lol.

                    like karqui , karkand , wake ...

those maps you always see people defend the 2main" spawn bases.

on those huge maps with 10 flags , have fun defending some flag. if 32 people have to defend like 8 flags , that makes 4/flag while the enemy can attack with 32 people ... good luck with that one.

Very good tips, but I wanted to add one that I see too many people missing. If you are defending an objective and getting a steady stream of attackers, look for a player just off from the objective, chances are its the squad leader...seen far too many defensive efforts ultimately fail because of people squad hopping onto a leader that's hidden like that...

Sorry for the thread necro, but this is a point that I wanted to address.

Me and 5 other friends when we play BF2, specially on Dragon Valley, have a CP known as the AAC flag. Its the first Chinese flag that u get to after the docks.

We usually spend the whole round defending it, as well as sneaking down occasionally to recapture the docks.

And the enemy team usually sends everything at us, airstrikes, helis vehicles, you name it. We tend to hold the position more than we lose it, but we are a major thorn in the side of the enemy as a result.

During one map, I think we shot down about 20helis between us. Not only that, but we play all the classes, so that each class has its own job and can support his team m8s. It makes for a very rewarding experience...inbetween the odd comment in Global chat of "Get orf moi land"

                            Re: Holding Actions

I enjoy defence especially in places like Wakeland ... it's a constand source of action even when the majority are concentrating on attacking/defending the airfield. Defence is a vital role for maps like that and often not dull ... especially when it pays off.

Yes, that's a nice defensive point with all the woods to hide in and a rare well-postioned TOW launcher. You can kill a lot of helos with AT rockets and GL 'nades. I spend quite a bit of time there too.

                                Wargimp,

Just curious - have you actually ever played on the tacticalgamer server? I only ask because I see you posting all of these teamwork related ideas and tactics.

you really seem to be into the tactical aspect of BF2 and I think you'd benefit greatly just from checking out tacticalgamer.com bf2 server #1 during evening EST time.

There is a place where the entire server comes together and plays the way you describe...
