    Re: Holding Actions

I've seen many teams win after taking defensive postures. Karkand's Gatehouse is the most well-known CP for such an action.

I'd love to see a battle where the entire MEC team fell back into the Gatehouse from the get-go, leaving only landmines and a single Spec Ops at each flag to chip away at USMC tickets. The rest of the team could work on fortifying the Gatehouse. Would it work?

I recall a good number of Q1 Team Fortress games where the other side would "turtle up" at its own flag once it held a capture lead - it often worked.

I love being the US Commander when they have nothing but the gatehouse.

Yea, but all of the USMC troops are at the train accident. Works both ways.

MEC can really stop US dead at the gatehouse, if they use their tanks right

I love using stratigic use of C4 on that bridge.
Blow it, resupply, then re-set the charges.

Eventually, some smart cookie on the USMC side will take an engineer kit, grab a tank, roll up the the bridge and fix it. That's when ya pop the charges.

Hehe... I pulled this off once and bagged a tank, APC, AND a jeep! The tank driver was so POed he typed some rather amusing comments into global chat. :)

Oh, and big love to the medic that put me back on my feet twice while I was waiting for the change to cause that mayhem!

At Strike at Karkand map, it is nature for MEC as a defend team. I actually like playing MEC there as a SPEC OP. Usually, play C4s around the first flag, and ran to second flag nearby and camp there to defend it. If the first flag fall, "Ka-boom!" I detonate them while defending the second one.

Green Monk, if you like going to the second flag, then I got a nice hiding spot there. Go up the long ladder to the roof, turn left and go up the next ladder.....then go down the next ladder. Now, face the flag on your belly and start moving toward the ledge. Youll eventually fall onto the gutter below. At that spot you are directly overlooking the flag. Artillery cant hit you. If the US comes and you start hitting them, they may look up.....to the roof....lol. You can also turn your body up there and kinda face toward the first flag and hit anyone coming down the street. Any gun on single shot mode will net you a few kills.

I do like defending. However, there are VERY few bases that are worth defending, enjoyment wise.

I play to have fun and sitting at pointless flags or important flags that noone is attacking is boring and I don't enjoy it.

However, there is nothing more fun than defending the TV station on Sharqui after you have captured it as MEC. I was in a squad last night and our goal was to capture and hold that point. Lots of communication and teamwork. It was a ton of fun grabbing and holding that point. The other team stood no chance once we grabbed a hold of it.

the deffences are all in the wrong place
Yeah I've noticed that too, and its that way on pretty much every map except surge, where at "the bridge" which is above a spawnpoint, there are MGs on each side facing each other....only good placement I have seen in the whole game.

Its funny because for MEC on karkand at the second point, the MG faces a building, and is not facing down either of the streets which it would be in real life.

Yeah, I know where you're talking about. I actually saw someone hiding there too. However, didn't know artillery can't reach it. It seems the place has alot of exposure to enemy sight. There is also another spot on top of the brick fence where the tree is covered. You can get up there from trash can near the machine gun.

                            Re: Holding Actions

I like defending as well but in the scheme of things it is useless except for airports and landingzones.Because defending one point leaves another open...... the way conquest is set is inherently flawed because all games usually just becomes run around and cap flags and defense becomes a matter of coincedence rather than a action or strategy that can be planned.

                              Well, not always true.

If you plan your defence well, you can make a big impact on the way things flow. There's certain parts of certain maps that you just know the enemy is going to go for hard. If you set a good defence up there, you can really mess 'em up.

There's also the stratagy of setting up squads that are each responcible for taking and keeping one particular flag. Rather hard to get it working on a pub, but I've seen it happen... in a reduced capacity.
