I am almost always the first in a server.

I thinks its a combo of the RAM and the processor

And your PING I think, on UK servers I am always first sometime by a margin of 5-6 seconds. Often long enough to make a free run for tank/chopper etc.

On Euro server, I almost always first you can see this as if you hit TAB if your the only name that aint grey your first. But on US server I seem to arrive with 1-2 people at the same time.

UK server my ping is about 12-16 MS on a US server its about 80-133 MS.

The RAM seem's important as the level sits in RAM and when it reloads you don't touch your Harddisk much and the CPU and RAM get you live in about 10-15 seconds.

On my old rig it took 40-50+seconds and I was always almost last.

i got 512 RAM, medium/high settings, and i manage to get 50+fps :)

When I had 512 in, my system chugged the hard drive if I played server with more than 16 people, 32 was laggy and choppy. When I moved to a gig, 16/32 was fine but 64 was choppy.

With 2 gig they are all fine. But I suspect that 64 may have been choppy as my CPU was dog slow and the system was a bit pants.

Well great, I just realized I don't even have any more available memory slots anyway. As soon as I turn 16 I'm getting a job and going to build an entirely new rig!

Get an AMD 64, the 3500 + is REALLY cheap right now and Very VERY fast. Also don't get any video card below a 7800 GTX.

No joking the experince and resolution the 7800 GT or GTX throw out is WORTH EVERY PENNY vs a 6800 etc etc, most probably the same on the ATI cards. Alot of reviews really are not pushing the fact HDTV res is very similar to 1280 - 1600 res, the GPU has to work a littlwe harder because your view is wider than normal and only the current best cards do it properly. The HDR lighting is also really impressive. I really think the 6800 I bought this year is JUNK in comparison.

I spent a few days not playing BF2 since I got the new Rig, and HL2 and Farcry are AWESOME, TOTALLY AWESOME on a decent system with everything at high/ultra etc and 8x AA and 16x ASF at HDTV res 1360 x 768 at at least 100 FPS.

I had already done Hl2 on a 5200 FX go. To say the experience was was different is a joke. At high res on a big screen HL2 looks like a film most of the time. Far cry was fun as well although HL2 does look better.

go to start=>run=>type in 'dxdiag' and most of the info should be there. for showing CPU speed and ram only hit the windows button+pause button.

BTW, i have a AMD athlon 64 3200+, 2x512mb dual channel RAM, and a radeon x1600pro.
I have everything maxed out on 1024x768 (can go higher but screen isn't very big)with this settings i run about 50 FPS

i get near the same with my 78gt- its realy amazing how smooth and great it is with this card- the picture is way clearer then i ever thaught it would be.

crap :). you need at least 1gig ram to be playable. your 9600 can only play at 800x600 with everything set to low (if that's what you want)

I Built a new machine with

Athlon 64 X2 4400+
1GB Dual chan DDR400
7800 GT 256MB
Asus A8N SLI Delux
300 GB SATA HDD
80 GB New Raptor woohaaa Speed (Just for my games)

But i found it still wasent perfectly smooth when all the gfx where on full. So i put another 1GB of RAM in to give my 2GB Dual and wohaaaaaaaaaa it runs perfectly on all high with AA on highest i never get any lagg ever and i am always first in any game on karkand i can spawn at the hotel and destroy the USMC arty before anyone else is in the game lmao

Cool! Well I'm getting new system upgrades very soon...I wont have 2 gigs for a while because I'm spending all my money on the rest of the stuff. Here's my system soon to be, I hope it will be able to play BF2 on at least medium-high...

I have the soundcard and speakers, 430 W PSU, and windows already. I hope this all fits together will as few bugs as possible. I'm worried my PSU won't hold...it should though...

The psu should be fine :) theres enough output. As for 512MB RAM hmmmmm a dunno about 512MB for BF2 but it is DDR2 so might be a help. That will be a killer system when you get your extra RAM . I dont know if your in the uk but look here this is where i got my stuff good prices but flawless top stuff. I think there is some DDR2 on there I got the blue Geil stuff

So I finally forked over some cash towards purchasing a second set of DDR400 running in dual-channel....Oh my God, the difference it has made.

I get little lag spikes, but I've been able to slowly increment my graphic settings to everything but the dynamic stuff on HIGH @ 1024x768, and I'm very impressed.

Just thought I'd share. This seems to be the easiest and cheapest upgrade for garanteed results.

for sure mate, bf2 and sf needs at least a gig alone to play, other than system ram, was trying to tell everyone but they didnt believe me, so your the proof champ, nice 1, loading times are quicker, im always first in the maps now, ideal, so for everyone else try using at least 2gigs ram min!
