Kill/Death Ration, Good or Bad Player?

whats up everybody. just thought i'd question everybody on their Kill/Death Ratio. I have about 3000 kills with 3600 deaths; now my question is, does your deaths make you a bad player. i would say 600 of these deaths were caused by tanks and artillery. I'm not an armor person so i dont rack up hundreds of kills in there, i'm more of ground combat to ground combat person. when i play in a game, i usually rack up 30-60 points, and thats all just spec ops. if i play as a medic i'm doubling that, but overall i'm a team player. i got kind of off track, but back to the question at hand... does having more deaths than kills make you a bad player?

Doesn't help.... but being a foot soldier automaticly means a lower k/d ratio.

We do the durty work while the air force gets all the glory!

Not totally, when I am on the ground as a soldier I usually get a few kills before I die, and I use my rifle to do it. When I am in a tank or chopper, I double that. So...maybe I am a good player, but I don't sit there and consider myself to be a good player because of kills and deaths. To me a good player in bf2 is one that works for the team, gets in a squad, and supports the other players. Even if they never make a kill, if that person is the medic reviving my butt, or the guy giving me ammo, its worth it to me.

Score Per Minute is all the matters.

There is NO way to determine skill based on a person's stats. K/D Ratio won't do it, games won won't do it, SPM won't do it.

The only way to know how good someone is, is to play with them.

agreed, my k/d ratio is coming up, but not over 1:1 as of yet.

A recent stretch on Commanding has helped with the k/d ratio, but lots of infantry work -- especially being stubborn over loosing flags -- has hurt it :)

Stats are only a glimpse into the player's overall play....people go through trends. There was a time I would be one of those sitting on the helipad, wasting away my round for a cobra/z10/havoc, but that got old and I'm more interested in cruising around capping flags and GL'ing people :)

              K/D ratio means very little.

One guy might be the best of the best of infantry combat but his ratio might still be lower then that of a mediocre jet pilot. Some-one might be able to 2hit KO a tank every time, but his k/d ratio will still be low, yet no one can argue he has no skill.

again, K/D ratio means very little.

The K/D ratio is very missleading. In gernal its probably a good way to figure out if the player is good or not, but looking at the overal K/D ratio is probably not the way to go. Its better to look at their kit and/or kit equipment to figure them out. One of the main reasons it is misleading is because players who started off really bad can improve. It can take them quite some time to stabalize their K/D ratio.

If you are going to look at K/D ratio use http://www.bf2s.com and look at how their current ratio stacks up to their past ratio.

The best you can say is that K/D (and spm) are far more significant than global score. Even taking all the recorded stats together you can't easily judge skill. Not only vehicles and kits but different maps can affect K/D (tends to be higher for people who play 24/7 city maps). I would say though that probably MOST good players have at least 1:1 K/D (people with lots of medic, squadleader, and commander time might be an exception). (My K/D and SPM are only 0.8 and 1.50; I'm mostly AT with very little vehicle time.)

The only server I played on yesterday was... ooh, a fellow tactical.

Yeah, I was getting off some really lucky shots. The stingers are insanely powerful, once you get the hang of them and learn a few tricks. And most of them were running INTO those stingers, =)

Yeah, I have a pretty good kill/death ratio. Its positive at least. Meaning more kills than deaths. But I have a buddy who I fly around all day in a chopper, he easily should have a positive ratio, but I look at his stats and he doesnt! Why? Because dispite his co-piloting skills, he can easily get spawn killed 10-20 times a round. By tanks, or opposing choppers. So in conclusion, as pretty much everyone has stated above, kill death ratio means nada. But your cool if yours is positive. :)

Not at all. Everytime you die your team loses a ticket, so you can be a liability and still get a better score than someone who has actually helpful.

                              Agreed.

Furthermore. When you pick up an A.T. kit and opt. to use the SMG (Otherwise risk COMPLETELY losing range ability) your K/D ratio goes down drastically.

Heck, it takes me on average 4 hits to put down a tank. Even when hitting it in the treads. Unless I get a rear shot 95% of the time someone else is going to get the credit for my effort. Then again, no one picks up the A-T kit thinking " Glory " anyways...
