Re: Piloting attack chopper LAG in SF

this is a code issue, and not hardware...I can fly airplane/chopper in BF2 at 1600x1200 (4AA & 4AF, details on high) with absolutely no lag at all..in SF there is huge lag...they probably messed something up with backface culling or stuff like that when you're in chopper...

OK I was really excited I could fly the heli's in SF but alas tonight, I got the dreaded pilot suttering again on Surge.

I be stuffed, I was able to fly the heli again and now all of a sudden its back to a slide show.

It was only on surge but that's where I had the problems before. I haven't tried the other maps but as I said, "it seemed" that I had fixed it but alas it back to being a slideshow.

I really hope this gets fixed in the next patch, so disappointed!

I don't know if my problem has anything to do with the piloting lag that eveyone else is talking about but I get bad lag in every vehicle. It stutters very badly sometimes I even stop moving and then randomly jump (move instantly) forward or backwards. It happens roughly 75% of the time and like other people are saying it doesn't happen as a passenger.

I've observed this on SF lots too. Seems particularly prevalent on Mass Destruction, so much so I cannot actually pilot choppers. My machine is top notch, my lag is fine - something else is up.

I did try reducing the sound quality from Ultra High to High and I thought I saw a slight, though still small, improvement. But it's bug.

I have even noticed that if I am playing a map my ping averages 50ms. Get into a chopper and it ROCKETS up to > 100. Get out, it drops. Therein lies the problem. This isn't all the time, but more often than not.

All I can say is LET EA KNOW!! If they dont know about the problem or dont think enough people are having this issue, they wont bother addressing it in a patch.

Could be ram usage, could be connection. If lowering your graphics settings doesn't work, Im guessing connection.

ive upgraded to 2gig of ram and bf2/sf plays flawlessly with settings on high on 64 player maps+ in helos and jets, no stutter or lagg or ctd anymore, if you havnt got 2 gig then GET IT! you need a gig alone to play this game as well as the 256mb memory in the graphics card! consider this guys.

I have 1.5gig of RAM and get no lag or stuttering anywhere else in SF. Its fine in the palace on warlord, fine inside the ship on iron gator, it runs smooth as silk but as soon as I get into the "only attack heli" pilots seat its a severe slideshow. I don't have the same problem in the BH or th fat cow so why is it only for attack heli's and I doubt an extra 512meg will fix it.

I have two gigs of RAM and initially the change from one gig was incredible. It really did improve loading times. But.. I too suffer from attack helicopter lag in SF. Also occasionally, stuttering lag in normal BF2 aswell, it just happens randomly.

It is no magic fix buying another gig of RAM. It will help yes, but not a total solution, IMO.

It will mate, you need at least or ea recommends 1gig alone to play this game flawlessly, so for anyone that ctd, GET ANOTHER GIG O F RAM!

I also tried it at 2gig, pinched some of the Mrs RAM and its the same. Its only the attack heli pilot seat nothing else. Like I said I did get 1 day of no lag at all and only flew the heli's then the next day and ever since its back to a slideshow. There is not a lot of difference between 1.5gig and 2gig by the way, in fact gameplay wise its not noticeable, it loads a little faster but not by much, but going from 1gig to 1.5 makes a huge difference though mainly in loading times. 1.5gig is enough.

lol...Make sure your AGP is exactly 66.6MHz, your PCI exactly 33.3MHz (and PCI-E if present exactly at 100.0MHz).If your AGP is 0.5MHz too low or too high, you get lag. This is due to messed up synchronisation, it doesn't cause any lower FPS, it just causes a sort of lag; as I mentioned.

Hmm Anzen that is an interesting observation. My PC is oc'ed and AGP is like at 72mhz with PCI at like 37 or something. I might set it back to stock to see if that's true but that doesn't explain why I got 1 day with no slideshow with my settings the same as always.

Worth a try though I guess.

i also think that no matter what system you have if you dont have a decent braodband or better connection then that will cause lagg.
