Piloting attack chopper LAG in SF

Ok...I did a complete PC reformat and re-install of BF2 along with an upgrade to 2 GB of PC3200 and an X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card.

Sure, SF maps don't perform as well as vanilla maps there is a HUGE lag differential as soon as I step into the pilot seat of an attack chopper in SF maps. Nothing else..JUST the pilot seat of an attack chopper. The MOMENT I switch into that seat...HUGE difference.

I mean, it's so bad that I cannot line up a target for myself, much less for a copilot.

My FPS are still high though... (i.e. 30+)

As soon as I switch to the co-pilot seat, the world is as completely smooth as if I were on the ground. I mean smooth-as-glass smooth. If I switch BACK to the pilot seat, it's a world of lag again.

This does NOT happen in vanilla BF2. It ONLY happens in the attack chopper in SF...day or night maps. No difference.

I was wondering if anybody else out there was also experiencing this problem (I know there are at least a few of us) so that we can either: figure out a way to fix it, or at least get some exposure so that DICE can fix it.

Maybe somebody can mod a SF map and replace the Hind with, say, a Cobra and see if the problem persists, etc.

    Specs:
    A64 3000+
    Asus A8V Deluxe
    2 GB PC3200 @ 400MHz
    XFX GeForce 6800 GT
    X-Fi XtremeMusic

I get lag in the pilot seat as well, but only on certain maps in SF. Int the Maps I do get lag in the pilot seat, it goes away in gunner seat and other vehicles.

Thanks for the worthless info there chief.

I only play on servers with less than 100 ping - most of the time I play on 50ms or less.

All my graphics are set to low - no lag anywhere else other than pilot seat, on certain maps - so how that has to do with ping, I have no friggen clue.

Ok, I guess I SHOULD have mentioned that my pings are perfectly fine. Around 50ms.

So, for me so far, the maps I have FOR SURE documented this issue are:

          -Mass Destruction
          -Leviathan

I think I also had this problem in Ghost Town but for some reason, I remember having a good round..so I'll have to look into it.

I haven't been playing SF as much simply because this particular bug annoys me. I'm doing a mini-boycott (will only play SF maps to test various settings) until the next patch.

This only happened to me once. It wasn't lag, but FPS issues. I even jumped in and out and saw it go from 70 fps to 15 when in the pilot seat. Only happened once like I said.

dont know if this is of any use to you , but i use the "PCI Latency Tool 2" to alter my GPU's latency which is set rather high (set to 64 instead of 256) *IMPORTANT* - this tool will only work with AGP video cards and will not work on PCI as they do not have/use latency timers.

ps i do find that i get worse FPS when i turn off AA, i must have atleast x2 to get around 40-50 FPS and when AA is off i get 30-40 FPS. wierd.

Ive had 10 ping before and still had bad lag,its not the server its the game they need to address this issue in the next patch for SF

dont know youre system but sounds like video issues rather than ping, turn down your settings an check to see if the lag issue has been resolved or feels better, i had similar in the vanilla BF2 so put all my settings on medium with x2 AA.

also i use the PCI latency tool (for AGP cards only) and have OC'ed my 6800GT to 6800 Ultra clock times, this has helped and the only lag i experience now is from my wireless router (which can let me down at the worst times but is stable most of the time)

                    Specs-

                    Athlon 2400+
                    XFX 6800GT OC'ed (400/1100)
                    2 GB ram
                    Nforce2 audio

Yes, i occasionaly have a tad of lag, but its always in the gunner seat, and on the map warlord- it lags soo bad on that map, its unbeareable.

So what I'm likely experiencing is very frequent drops in FPS while still maintaining a decent average.

So I guess 'VIDEO LAG' is likely a better description than 'LAG'.

where do i get this so called tool.

I've already changed my PCI Latency..but I find it annoying that I have to sacrifice graphics settings or audio quality just to workaround an annoying bug.

It IS a workaround..not a fix..but I appreciate the post nonetheless. At least I know that if I get desperate, I can play with my graphics settings. If it didn't take 10 minutes to optimize shaders each time I made a change, I wouldn't mind playing around with it more

And there is NO way I'm decreasing my sound acceleration after just shelling out for a new X-Fi card... man oh man, I hope they pull their thumbs out soon.
