Drive a tank? Then it's time to celebrate!

While overall I enjoy many of the changes coming to the game in 1.2 (especially dealing with Air strength - I fly a chopper and find it rather boring because its simply too easy, this patch will make it more exciting), there is one change I do not like.

No shooting and jumping. While this is intended to stop bunny hopping, it also stops people from jumping near a ledge to get a clear shot at a tank with an AT missle without getting their head blown off. Now they have to jump onto the ledge, fire the missle, then turn around and run back off the ledge. Sure, it only takes a split second longer, but that split second equals death when facing a good tank driver (or heck, even a tank driver with a brain). Or if they are behind a wall that they cannot jump onto but can normally jump and shoot over, they'll have to walk out into the opening to fire at a tank, which leaves the tank driver fewer places to have to watch for incoming missles. Once again, they're dead. Poor AT guys...

I play the engineer class, and I occassionally get in tanks. Its already easy enough to mow down infantry in a tank, now its just going to be like shooting fish in a barrel. You better bet my K : D in a tank will be going up after this patch. Before you needed at least SOME infantry support to kill those AT guys taking pot shots at you, but now I can just cruise around without any real worry.

Second, what about noob toobers? This won't really stop them, and I think they are the worst bunny hoppers of all. *Jump around the corner* *Land* *Fire off a grenade* *bunny hop while reloading* *Land* *Fire off a grenade* *bunny hop*...ah well.

Not to mention that if they are going to make it impossible to throw a grenade and jump, I'd like it if they increased the grenades throw distance. I mean, c'mon, these guys can jump 5 feet in the air while carrying 5 AT missles, if they're that superhuman then they can throw a grenade further than 15 yards...

But in the end, the overall positive gain from this patch far outweighs these slight negatives. Plus, we'll just learn how to play the game differently in the end.

*Grabs an F2000 and jumps in a tank* :p

*Drops a supply crate next to self*

    Flame on!

I'm happy with the removal of it (perhaps more so than others as I simply dont do it).

You will get arguments for/against and then break off into a discussion of realism -vs- game etc.

Bottom line: You cant please everyone. And what changes they make to please one group will surely upset the other.

(On a side note and the dreaded "reality" issue: Shouldnt be able to jump with an AT launcher anyway... those dang things are heavy especially if you are "carrying" reloads (which in itself is not realistic)) And jumping to throw a grenade.... It is aparent that not many have ever thrown one)

Eh. it's a game. They will change things and get complaints no matter what they do as people will not feel the changed reflect "Their" playing style.

It wont be that bad for us infantry guys, the only time i jump whle AT-ing is when playing Karkand, i know other ways to stay out of harms way while firing at tanks.

Its simple, just find a slope, fire, go prone, and voila. Or.. walk from behind a corner, fire, walk back behind it while guiding.

I think if EA & DICE make this patch with what they have mentioned so far its going to improve gameplay fullstop.

I wish they'd of said something about the bugs rather then balance issues.

          Its a start I suppose

Most of those bugs only affect public play so stop playing on public servers and the problem is solved.

EA don't talk about fixing bugs in patches because it is obvious that we wan't them fixed and it's obvious that if they can fix it (without it costing them too much) they will. Plus fixing the bugs isn't as simple as making game changes, they probably don't know what they need to do to fix the problem. So until they have fixed a bug they aren't going to make us promises about it.

              Hope that made sense.

I doubt tanks will get it much easier with the next patch. AT is my most played class and I rarely need to jump when firing rockets. Just wish I got some support sometimes instead of people just running away. 1 AT soldier will probably get killed by a tank, 2 should be able to take it out and 3 or more will take it out, probably without any of them dying.

Lol stop playing on public servers? I'll just set myself one up then only around £120 a month. Wtf? I shouldn't have to stop playing on public servers. And I think you'll find that alot of red/blue bugs are pretty common everywhere.

EA don't talk about alot of things; mainly the truth.

Secondly if its so "obvious" why the **** haven't they fixed this before.

I am happy with the changes too since I'm a tanker too.
I just hope that the "air vehicles hitpoints educed" means that helo's will go down in 1 tank shell hit.

One hit and a couple of machinegun bullets wouldn't be too bad either. Give the pilot a slight chance of survival, I mean, some of us tankers have great aim.

I'd be happy with that too, 1 hit and it puts the chopper down to 1 red bar so that they 2 or 3 seconds to bail before it explodes.
As long as it isn't like it is now where they can take a direct APFSDS Sabot round and then just FLY OFF with a puff of white smoke.

I've been playing AT non-stop for a while now and have never jumped and fired an AT missile. If there is a wall in the way and I can see the top of the tank/apc then I fire over the wall and guide it down.

So at the end of the day, you tank drivers will be no safer from me when this change comes into play.

I have never jumped and fired the AT gun at a tank. . . that's pointless. What you want to do is get a tread hit and jumping firing and then not guiding makes that pretty infeasible in most instances.

On top of that, the only bunny hoppers with the noob toob that I hate are the ones that run around the corner, jump and THEN fire straight down. This will stop that. I can hit bunny hoppers no problem. . .their path is completely predictable, unlike people who run. . . true, it is hard to hit than if they ran STRAIGHT to somewhere, but the problem before was that they could fire while jumping around like madmen. Now that is gone and so noobtoobin bunny hoppers will be good times to me.

It's a non issue... You engage the tank whilst its turret is facing away and then of necessary move position before firing any more ATMs. Common sense prevails and problem solved...
