It alredy is that way. 1 APFSDS and about a second of Mgun fire will bring a helo down.

Re: Drive a tank? Then it's time to celebrate!

I've seen the red bug for the first time, last night.
I got 2 TK's, and then I left the game.
The last poor guy was coming at me probably for a ride, as I was in a jeep, when I greeted him with MG.
        Sorry, you were red.
Probably it was your Chinese clothes.

The name tag bug seems really sporadic. I've gone months without seeing it, only to have it happen two or three games in a row.

Re: Drive a tank? Then it's time to celebrate!

            lame.
That's an excellent point. I'm glad you've contributed something useful to the discussion.

As for everyone else, yeah I understand that we'll simply change our playstyle (or continue as we were), and I already mentioned that the overall benefit clearly outweighs any costs, but jumping and firing an AT missle is nevertheless a good tactic against tanks, and yes you can still hit the treads while doing it. It's a lot more effective than guiding around a corner because there's about 2 ms of less exposure to the enemy tank. There are a lot of tricks that you can do with the jump/fire method. You can climb boxes to jump/fire over a really high wall, etc.

It is true though that it's most useful in Karkand, but I honestly wish they fixed bunny hopping via a different method than this. This feels more like a quick fix to me. Yet, despire it's quickfixness, I'm still glad its coming to the game.

And as for grenade launchers...the issue here is that they are impacted the LEAST by the bunny hopping change. They deliver all of their damage in one shot, whereas rifle users have to deliver that same damage over time. But it also isn't really that big of a deal.

And its a statstical fact that everyone thinks that whenever anyone presents an argument over the internet that they are taking the extreme side. I'm not taking an extreme side against the patch, heck I'm not even all that concerned about it, it was just something worth mentioning.

Oh yeah, and 74.553% of statistics are made on the spot. :P

Re: Drive a tank? Then it's time to celebrate!

              TL,

I am not saying you CAN'T hit the treads. It is hard enough, when up against a good tank driver, when you are on the ground and guiding a missile at a moving tank to hit the treads. I can't imagine jumping over a wall shooting a missile in the brief period you are up and hitting treads with any consistency.

For that matter, how do you even know you hit the treads if you can't even see the missile land?

As to the bunny hoppers, I couldn't disagree more. I don't have a problem with people who use the toob, even if they use it up close and kill themselves (although, I will call them stupid when they do). It is those who come around a corner, jump and then fire who **** me off and this is what the real issue is. If you can't hit kill someone during the time it takes to reload the grande launcher, even if they are jumping, then you have aiming issues.

Re: Drive a tank? Then it's time to celebrate!

Why don't you shoot AT while jumping? A good tank/APC driver will know where you are when you hit him. Once he has a bead on you, if you pop around the corner you're probably gonna get hit. It's much easier to just jump up and shoot and guide the missile down than to risk running out where he can hit you.

Re: Drive a tank? Then it's time to celebrate!

                  js,

I am pretty sure I explained above.

First, I want to hit the tank where it is most vunerable, the treads. Jumping and shooting doesn't give you the consistency to hit that point, especially when you want to hit the underside of the treads from the back.

Jumping and firing means you are probably going to hit the tank in one of the less vunerable spots meaning it will take more shots to kill which will probably give the tank MORE of an opportunity find you and kill you.

I come out from around the corner, aim just off the tank so it doesn't pick up my attack and then fire and then move TO the tank so all it doesn't have time to react to my missile. I then run back behind the corner and stay there for at least 7 seconds. . . more like ten. . . people's attention spans are very short. With this method, I consistently do significant amount of damage to the tanks and rarely do they find me as right when I hit, I get up and run.

Sure, jumping may keep you alive. . . however, you aren't going to be doing a lot of damage and so the tank sticks around longer. One shot from me tends to put the tank down to hald energy, while you are only taking off 1/5th of the energy most of the time.

It just doesn't strike me as that advantegous to my style so it doesn't strike me as loss that you can't do it anymore.

Re: Drive a tank? Then it's time to celebrate!

Screw the bunnyhopping or jumping while shooting. Screw the 2 shots needed from a tank to take down a chopper. Screw all the game play scenarios that people cry and whine about. FIX THE BUGS. It's freaking ridiculous. I don't care if you could jump in the air and fire 2 grenades before you land. The connection issues, server browser, ctds, red name bug, hit boxes, team damage while destroying the opposing teams commander assets, and so on and so on.

I don't argue the fact that tanks should be able to take down helos with one shot, but I do object to the often ridiculous angles/elevations I've been shot down by tanks from. In real life (yeah...here we go again )they can only elevate the gun tube to a certain (very limited) height, without having the tank on an incline. I'll often be at an elevation where I know I should be perfectly safe and some asshat takes me down with a totally BS shot.

P.S. The nerfing of the miniguns is total BS! I happen to know from first hand experience that they're about as close to realistic as they're gonna get right now. YES, they can...with enough ammo, destroy anything in the game except the tanks and heavily armored AA vehicles. YES, that includes APCs and the Havoc too!

Yeah, but in real life, helicopters in a combat zone will not fly very high to avoid direct and indirect fire, this works, but a helicopter hovering near an alarted tank unit is asking to get shot. (and yes, tanks can target and destroy helicopters in real life)

A weapon doing realistic damage in BF2 means its overpowered, its as simple as that. :p

Note how I said, if it doesn't cost them too much. If they are going to need to rewrite large sections of code or simply spend lots of time just looking for the problem they probably won't bother. They already have our money and they want to keep as much of it as possible.

Everyone be armor whores after the patch to protest EA/DICE taking the easy way out in fixing "balance" problems and not addressing hardcoded issues and performance issues first. :p

In Karkand it can be done pretty consistently. There's only about .5 seconds of travel time. In larger maps, yeah, you have to really aim it.

If you can't hit kill someone during the time it takes to reload the grande launcher, even if they are jumping, then you have aiming issues.
I can kill one bunny hopper just fine. But I want to be able to kill two bunny hopper n00b t00bers the way I can kill two rifles users. Like I said, I think its an overall good change, and it does nerf the n00b t00bers, but not as much as I'd like :P
