Re: Downright ****ed at these idiots....
I'll try to go back to the main topic. I fully agree with you on points 2-4, but have a different view on 1. Until some time ago I shared with your opinion here and thought a good SL should not drive tanks / use helis and jets.
However, once I got more into helis and tanks, I realised that being a SL makes you much more efficient - not only for yourself, but for the whole team. Example - if I am a SL and fly an assault heli, a good commander can give me orders that actually efficiently utilise my heli power - he sends me after tanks, APCs, other helis. It does not happen always, as some commanders insist on sending my heli to cap flags, but there are some that actually take into account the fact that I deliver a strong puch where it's needed. When I am in a tank I use the SL opportunities to call supplies and allow my gunner to spawn on me if he gets taken out.
Also, I try to avoid playing lone wolf (although I did that in the past, as my stats show). So when I want to use a heli I can either join a squad and follow orders, most of which does not use my assault capabilities, I can be a Lone Wolf and play for myself or I can be a SL and be able to communicate with the commander. Out of the 3 above I chose SL. I am probably an average heli pilot, but I have a feeling that I am far more efficient when I am a SL and the commander gives me orders that actually fit my heli's capabilities.
Of course, there is a major drawback of all this: SL in heli / tank cannot be a good spawn point, but at the same time I think that some of the opportunities that tank / heli drivers get as SL justifies the trade off.
Some day I'd want to play a vehicle heavy map, jump into a heli, join a squad and provide air cover for a column of tanks, APCs and Jeeps from my sqaud. Sadly, I never had that luck so far, but from time to time I keep trying :)
I re-read some of the topis in this thread: we all have differing agendas in this game: some play for stats, some for teamwork and some for their individual pleasure. It's hard to satisfy everyone here. What I don't like is that many people quickly turn to flaming if they do not agree with others. I have a different opinion that CaptainJordus for instance I am not likely to change it (and my playing style) no matter what he says, but at the same time I respect his views and opinions.
