Yea, realism said byebye to BF2 a long time ago. Still, DICE uses reality as a general model to influence how they make their design choices.

Still, I'd justify a change on the basis of good balance before I'd ever cite realism.

DICE intended for this game to be realistic.. anyone who says
differant is a moron.. although their idea of reality took a horrible
wrong turn when they added the gay ass UAV/SCAN. I served in
Iraq, 8 months.. we NEVER had anything that showed us where
the enemy was.. That thing is just gay.. what the hell were they
thinking.. maybe they should just give every kit a light sabre, and
change the jets to tie fighters if they were gonna be gay..

and the way people play it, suiciding with C4, ramming with jets,
noob tubers , nobody using voice, squads not being formed,
team killing for SPECIAL FORCES weapons.. teamkilling for your
jet, chopper, or jeep.. commanders who are useless, or only
serve themselves with uavs or ammo..

      its a shame..

public servers are a disgrace.. never seen a online gamer with this
      bad a problem..

Right and Im sure you saw guys that got shot instantly healed by shock paddles or a medic bag?????but yeah this game is based on realism...key word BASED....

Its like those movies ya know...Based on a true story...thats BF2 Based on realisim...I mean ofcourse we have to have realisim it is all we can relate to...duh...I mean even some of the more out there scifi games are loosely based on reality....Think about it even if we make it up subconsciously we are making it up on what we have seen through out our lives, if that makes any sense...

Although how realisitc can you really get when the end user is sitting in a nice comfy room in a nice comfy chair running around a warzone on there monitor with a mouse and keyboard....Pretty sure war doesnt go down like that for front line infantry man....well I do suppose the feeling or experince can be made more realisitc, well other than the serious trauma....I know after intense firefights on BF2 I have sat back and gone holy $h1T wtf was that......

Oh and BTW Noobzilla thank you...I think you know what for

Re: Realism vs Fun, let's just get this over with.

Two points about the realism debate:
-realistic weapon modelling can help to keep the game balanced. If you think about it, every real weapon has been developed to be a useful tool in an armed conflict. You can´t "overpower" weapons in real life, and weapons that totally suck don´t get deployed (well at least sometimes not ). There are certainly flaws in this theory, but there is a point to it. An example would be the noob tube, which just couldn´t exist with BF2´s properties IRL.
-an infantry simulator using a single monitor can´t be realistic. Once you limit yourself to a FOV of ~5% of what you normally can perceive (by using a normal computer screen), you lose tons of situational awareness, which is paramount to any infantry combat. If you look at military simulators you´ll notice that most of the time, they cover a much larger FOV. Until we have such arrays (or really nice VR goggles) at home I´m highly sceptical of games that are supposed to have "realistic infantry combat".

Why you gotta go blaming gay people? And I never once caught the UAV scan glimpsing at my a55 or winking at me. Even if the scanner IS gay, is that necissarily a bad thing? I have it on good authority that Gaydar is very strong. I'll take a good gaydar scan over a regular wimpy "Tarzan on top, Jane on bottom" radar blip anyday. At least it'll be more entertaining at a dinner party. Bigot.

I'm drunk, I've just gotten home from a fairly successful night of wenching, and I'm tired, but I'll still take a moment to say that that is the single stupidest thing I've seen posted on the TBF forums EVER.

That's worth repeating. In bigger letters:

this is all of personal opinions, no straight facts, if its not of opinions, this thing about realism complaining would run dead.
but personally i would rather arcade, cos only in a arcade game can you respawn when blown 50 feet into the air

Mind you I'm not saying that tanks won't need infantry support sooner or later and in case I misunderstood you I apologize in advance. There is no need to get in a lengthy debate over this.

I think you've got the wrong idea about how tanks should be and are utilized in the real world. Ever heard of a thing called blitzkrieg? It's a thing heavily used by the german army in the 2nd world war. They piled up a bunch of armor and motorized infantry and broke through fast and followed up the break through before the enemy could recover and put up a fight.

Using your tanks as infantry support vehicles shows disregard to the lessons learned in WW-II.

I agree with most of everything else you said though, I also like realism.

This is a good example of why "realism" is TOTALLY subjective.

While you were in Iraq did you have the convenience of being able to spawn
                        at your squad leader?

Did you have a 50 degree field of view?

Was aiming and firing a gun the same as pointing and clicking?

You didnt have UAVs but you did have intellegence, reports etc etc. You didnt have flags but you did have strongholds and danger zones.

You didnt have UAVs, but human eye site is FAR better than any computer can muster.

Its all subjective. For example, lets remove the cross-hair to make it more realistic - how is that more realistic?? In real life you can "feel" the gun, you can see in 3D, you can percieve movement and judge targets alot better...you dont have a cross-hair but you do have ALOT more cues to help you target things - so again how does removing a cross-hair mean realism???

People in real life move a certain way, like body language etc. In game characters dont do that so we cant pick up on it like we can in real life. Real people cant prone or crouch instantly, turn and change direction instantly. These are factors when concidering the "realism" of the guns. Everything is linked.

Once you change the "realism" of one aspect of the game it impacts on everything else - so you make the realism of the game as a whole decrease. Like you can make a gun less accurate but that might create unrealistically low kill rates because in real life people cant jump prone instantly to avoid it. Theres always a limit where realism falls down.

Every change effects something else, that propagates through different aspects of the game until you hit a fundamental barrier to realism e.g. the nature of the monitor, the fact that you use a mouse, the keyboard - theres always a barrier.

                          lol.

ITS A VIDEO GAME. ITS AN ARCADE STYLE GAME.

Yes, its based off of realistic things, but the physics / etc are supposed to be arcade-style, this dates back to BF1942. There are plenty of choices for realism-based video games, Raven Shield, AA, and several others have damage systems much more like real life.

We need to all understand its an arcade-style video game, and that attempting to mix in realism in order to deal with an aspect of the game you don't like is wrong. You can't carry on about the GL when planes are allowed to reload by flying over a runway, so on and so forth....

Oh, and Wargimp - <3 <3 - yeah, that was the dumbest thing EVER said here, lol :)

Yea thats what some of the posters on this forum don't realize. They constantly get killed with the grenade launcher in a round, come back to the forum - and bitch about it. The point they try to make is that, its not that they get out played, but that the weapon itself is stupid because it allows such unrealistic shenannigans. So EA, is retarded, they cry, no grenade launcher in real life works that way, make it more "realistic". Realistic?

How can you argue to fix it by adhering to rules of Realism when your perfectly ok with getting "defribrillated" back to life after getting shot. No, its not realism you care about, its gameplay balance. Stop arguing as if realism has any place in this game at all. If they want to make the reload animation take longer, or an alien to fly down and stop me from shooting the grenade launcher at you, fine, but don't argue ITS NOT REALISTIC!! ARGH. Have you looked at the rest of the game?

Oh and regarding the people that want a REALISTIC one shot one kill M95. The day they make ANYTHING in this game one shot one kill that doesn't take more than 30 seconds to reload, and come with some sort of warning klaxon, is the day I stop playing.

What annoys me most about this arguement is that the people who arm themselves with the "REALISM" card, believe they are somehow above everyone else and have.

"I play realistic games and realism is better" pretentious and ignorant.
