    Gamespy gives BF2 SF a...

I read this article from someone who posted it on the Future Conflicts forum.

Thought Gamespy was a total EA lackey. From the tone of the author, it seems like a thumbs down on the margin. This guys hits a lot of the issues plaguing this game on the nail!

    http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/battlefield.../673345p1.html

Of course, a Battlefield game wouldn't be a Battlefield game without an egregious lapse in quality assurance. Special Forces continues EA's tradition of pushing Battlefield games out the door when they really need another pass (or two or three) through QA. On two of the six systems we used, we were unable to get the game to work for nearly a week while we waited for EA to address various problems. On another system, we're routinely dumped to desktop

Plain vanilla BF2 lovers will enjoy this quote:

The most astute comment I've heard about Battlefield 2 still applies to Special Forces: everything about it sucks except for the actual game. And that part -- the core gameplay that holds it all together and drives it forward for hours on end once you've finally got it up and running and reasonably stable -- remains as great as ever. But if EA's expansion packs are going to continue consisting of content that doesn't expand so much as prolong, then the least they can do is give them more forthright titles. For Special Forces, might we suggest Battlefield 2: New Maps, New Toys and Some Bugs for Thirty Bucks?

Thanks and props to the author. At least someone speaks out in a loud voice for the community.

Lots of respect for this guy for being HONEST about it. I give this thread 24 hours before people come in saying he's a whiner though. :p

Hes probably been fired by now and the review will disappear soon. But seriously guys the expansion isnt that bad it just was some bugs that will more than likely be sqashed soon. Just like BF1942 it took some time before the game started to be really playable and balenced. You see things will get better.

Personally, I've bought the Lord of the Rings Trilogy in Latin. That, coupled with a few comprehensive Latin -> English dictionaries. By the time i've read and understood it, the next patch should be out.

                couldnt agree more. i wont say sf sucks coz i enjoy warlord and mass destruction, but the rest are average. the night maps are boring and hurt the eyes when playing for extensive periods. the flashbang and gas are almost as annoying as arty. after playing vanilla flat out for six months, the "expansion" was quite a letdown. long live vanilla {if it works properly}

I think the guy hit the nail on head quite perfectly. It isn't a whine, like most people, he says the game itself is great fun. . . however, he points out what everyone should know. . .everything else is buggy, they rush things out the door and the expanson pack was nothing more than new maps and weapons (oh and night vision goggles and gas masks).

I don't feel like I wasted my money on it because I like the new maps. . . but the fact of the matter is that he is right on every point.

Hmmmm, sounds like they need to be smarter than the equipment they are using. BF2 and SF installed and run fine on my machine. I think a lot of these people complaining need to look to their own abilities to operate a computer before blaming the game. Not even half the users here cry about the game not installing and crashing, and this is only a very small percentage of the BF2 community.

I think you'll need to buy the trilogy in elvish - you'll be finished with the Latin version before the new patch is released.

                        Well, I don't know.
It's been six months since vanilla BF2 was released, and now, four patches later, not much has been fixed and we're still left with a buggy game.

I for one wouldn't get my hopes up mate..

That's exactly what everyone who's "running perfectly" says in responce to the hundreds having problems. Just because your system runs everything fine doesn't mean you did the absolute right thing and we missed something. It just means that your system and the game hit a sweet spot. Some people won't have problems. It doesn't even mean that your hardware is better. But it's true, some people don't know what they're doing and aren't defragging, updating drivers etc.

Plus, what are your specs and what are you running at? I think most of us who have good or great rigs who are experiencing problems consider these to be the one and only spec for comparison: All high (or ultra high if you actually believe that does something*), 1600x1200, 64 player map, 16+ bots or 32+ humans, night and day maps. At that point, anything below 40fps as a low would be considered bad FPS. Anything below 32fps will become noticable.

As a point of trivia, movies play at 24fps. Not coincidently, this is also around the speed that you'll start noticing a real annoying stutter. I honestly don't see it myself, and am hard pressed to believe that it reall matters at all, but anything above 30 still looks like 30 to me. Meaning: seamless quality. Everything above that just makes me relax and smile the higher it goes because it means that I'm not almost out of date yet.

I'm really getting sick of people saying that because their game runs fine that we're all a bunch of idiots though. I'd be hard pressed not to think that THESE people are closer to being idiots, because the day that a game starts acting buggy for them, they're not going to know what to do. They'll blame the game, the company, and come to us for help. And one of us will say we haven't had any problems. And the problem must be you.

                          ~~weighs the options ~~

If you don't have anything nice to say. Don't say anything at all. Or Jesus will strike your mother with leprosy. Or something like that.

                          ________________________
Whoops, forgot my *: Ultra high may indeed work but it seems more like the change was removed as an afterthought. My FPS didn't change at all and I didn't notice a difference. I personally believe that "Ultra High" is a "High" duplicate. Or it's just all high settings with a higher res as default (just thought of that, don't plan to check it out because of long optimizations). Maybe there'll be an ultra high in a future patch but I doubt it.

You really have this most annoying habit of writing what I'm thinking and presenting it in a way that covers many angles.

You ever consider that the people who can actually use the internet critically and find a battlefield community would have enough technical knowledge to fix most forums? (this is compared to these people who aren't part of a forum or other battlefield community, your average computer "user" if that's what you want to call them).

I'm sorry, but when an organization such as this says they can't get a game to work on a computer, it's safe to assume they know danged well what they're doing since...it's their job to work with computers? To play games? They've had plenty of experience with computers collectively, and they even went through the trouble to try multiple systems. The game had a 33% failure rate on the computers they tried...I don't see what's so hard to comprehend. It's not compatible with a lot of things, it's not a versatile program, which is a big no-no in the PC world as almost no one has the same set-up. I think you need to look at your ability to reason before you tell people who deal with computers and video games for a living to look at their ability to work with computers.
