Re: What BF2 can Learn from CS:S

Mmmm tis thought provoking. I tried DOD:S the other day and thought 'ohh nice graphics but I played this once already.'

I've played a lot of FPS, mainly Quake series and BF2 isn't really an FPS, well tis for those that play Karkland for hours on end but thats another story.

On the face of it yeah BF2 is FPS with tanks, choppers etc, but when you play a long time you start looking at a map and start thinking ok we take / hold the hotel on Gulf and we've got an APC and a tank, so lets take and hold that.

Most new players yeah it's an FPS they run around like headless chickens chasing one flag cap after another but most high scorers can drive just about anything and more importantly know how to get and keeps those assets in the first place.

That's probobly because you don't see them as "issues" but they're there. See for yourself...start a server with a bot, type sv_cheats 1 in console, type sv_showhitboxes 2 in console. As far as graphics I'am sorry but you can't compare CSS graphics to BF2 because they're too totaly different games built off of different engines and aspects. CSS has alot of detail only because the maps are about half the size of the 16 player maps on bf2. That much detail in a 64 player map would cause crashing and performence issues for even high end systems. Not to mention DICE is not gonna use extra effort to put in detail thats not needed which most people would not even notice...You compare CSS to CS, BF2 to BFV/BF1942, not CSS to BF2. Sure Steam is a great thing but alot of people hate it cause of the fact that you have to log on everytime you want to play even if its just singleplayer, simluar to BF2's account system. I would imagine a steam like system for BF2, with BF2's account system, would be complete utter chaos of bug issues and probs. It would probobly affect Xfire too if theres steam and on top of that another account for the ranking and stats. Finally BF2 can't learn anything from CSS cause I believe they're two different games that are not even in the same category of shooter! CSS is a fast past action FPS where 1 AWP sniper can remain standing for the entire round and own the entire other team with headshots...teamwork doesn't exist in CSS even if you try to include it. There are no squads, there are no kits to help yourself or others, the VOIP is horrible cause of the fact a big mic icon shows up over your head when you have VOIP on. BF2 is all about teamwork and since this is totalbf2.com I don't have to explain how bf2 is all about teamwork. I'am not saying CSS is bad, its a very addicting game and in some aspects more fun then bf2 but at the same time bf2 is also addicting.
"Re: What BF2 can Learn from CS:S"..........NOTHING. 2 different games. 2 different companies. 2 different types of shooter. 2 different worlds.

While you make good points....CS:S maps are almost always indoor. They also tend to be smaller than even the 16 player versions of BF2 maps. It's easy to have amazing textures and ultra-detail when you're dealing with small-scale maps; but when you have a map like Gulf of Oman or Dalian Plant, it's a little more tricky....(and ****ty ass optimization on EA's part doesn't help at all.)

what built-in aim assist? sv_cheats 1, sv_aim 1? if u've been playing cs for a while, u should know that the so called "auto aim" only works when the servers have sv_cheats enabled. and u will find that kind of servers on ur LAN only. lol...

Second let us recognize the differences between the 2 games. CS:S has smaller maps and No vehicles but is built on an older Game playing Engine...HL2. BF2 has larger Maps and vehicles but is built on a Newer engine...alto it doesn't seem like it. But get those differences out of the way and they are the same games...Kill, Complete objectives, Rinse and Repeat.

For the last week or 2 My BF2 and BF2:SF has been acting up, Horrible ping, altho my Internet is running fine, and **** poor Customer service from EA. Well I love online fighting and matching my skills against other is like modern day gladiators. So I have had CS:S for a year but never played it.

I install CS:S and have steam automaticly begains to Download the needed patches...cool...and it take about an Hour...not bad.

I play Vanilla CS about 4 years ago and expected the same...I open the first map...Office and WOW just WOW!!! The graphics are amazing...if BF2 could get 50% of what year old CS:S has the game would be alot better.

The Detail that is in Every aspect of the game down to the picturs on the wall are amazing. When looking at computer monitors ingame you see a windows desktop. It is just beautiful.

CS:S isn't as indepth of a Game as BF2 good or bad? You deside.

In short CS:S Ownes BF2 in graphics...but gameplay is a little different. After playing about 3 hours I notice that CS:S is about 25% Lucky, 25% just throwing lead around, 25% skill and 25% randomness. Im not to impressed...want to take out a guy...just hold the triger and walk around the courner...and what do you know he is dead with a head shot. CS:S also has a built in Aim assist, now granted BF2 rounds fly like they were shot out of a musket, but CS:S rounds always happen to find the head...from around courners. Im not to big on that either.

BF2 has slightly better "Fun" Gameplay medics to revive and support to resupply, plus more indepth game play, destroying Assest and bridges. CS:S alittle bit more realistic and Alot better graphics.

Well im in a delema...I like BF2 but LOVE CS:S Graphics...a Week ago before EA messed up my ping and provided Horrible Customer service I was ranked in the top 1000th. So do I reinstall BF2 and pick up were I left off? I will try again this week and see what my ping is like...but man am I going to miss those Graphics....

So if EA could learn to provide better customer service, Improve the Grapichs to CS:S standards they would have an awsome combination.

I agree.. its a shame that BF2 with its 'new' game engine is sub-par
compared to other games that have been out for years.. CS:S is a 'ok'
game but without vehicles, gets kinda old after a while.. on the other
hand.. Unreal Tournament 2004 has great graphics AND vehicles.. and
imo beats the hell out of BF2 as far as game play goes..

The worst thing about BF2 is the players.. Half my team are a bunch of
goof offs, waiting around for jets or choppers, team killing in BF2 is just
a total disgrace.. , then you have useless or self-serving commanders who
only UAV or SUPPLY themselves all game.. then to top all this off you have
an unfinished product... specifically the voting system.. its totally useless
to vote for ANYTHING in BF2.. dont think Ive seen but 1 sucessful vote
                      since I bought the game..

If the voting was fixed in BF2 it sure would help getting rid of all these
little kiddies who just goof off, team kill, or useless commanders..

BF2 could be such a better game than anything on the market if it wasnt
for its player base.. Ive been playing games online since before color
monitors..played damn near every multi-online game there is, and BF2 is
by far the worst when it comes to its player base I have ever seen..

When EA put so much emphasis on POINTS and therefore 'Im better than
you are.'' they ruined the game..

Well I just was thinking that EA/Dice could learn alot on how to make a game work from CS:S. Yes Different Games but they could still learn...

Homies right, CS is dirt, compared to even earlier shooters, ones that required using the brain, not just jumping around pumping deagle bullets into each others heads is Rouge Spear. Anybody who played that game knows its the ****, hell it taught me how to aim and play fps's. And later DC refined that skill.

Gotta say love both games, but the shadows on HIGH in BF2 do kick arse, Hit shadows high then drive over the kubra dam in a jeep and notice every scaffold pole casts a shadow on you. Yes in LOW or MED, CS looks better, but run BF2 on HIGH 8XAF 4XAA at 1280 or better with everything on, and then BF2 looks pretty good. For the amount of POLYS both engines run its probably pretty similar, in fact I think BF2 runs more.
