I play ta see some good action 'n win maps. I feel better seeing my squad take out a well defended CP (even without me getting any personal kills) than I do just shootin people.

Runnin 'n gunnin is very much been-there-done-that for me. It's the team interactions that sucked me into this game.
He does seem fixated on personal excellence (ironic given the associated stats), but that doesn't always preclude someone from squad involvement.

You need multiple types of people - shooters, supporters, coordinators, anchors, and other -ers. A squad full of shooters will stumble over each other for kills, while a squad of supporters will be the most well-equipped group of dead guys on the battlefield.

The key is balancing the squad's talents to match the goal. Tis why I suggested that player readout in-game, so SLs could understand the types of people on their teams and recruit accordingly.

I just hate squads that punish each other.I just join them so my name could be green when I kill someone, easier to see.

Well all our ability levels vary, and I'm focused on doing the best that I can do. Which is fine for me. I don't feel the need to find approval from others for my stats. I enjoy the game as I play it, and my ranking is rising as is my score per minute.

I thought you made a great point here, you really articulated that well. I still feel the need to act impulsively to have fun without worrying what other people are doing or what they need me to do for them. I guess I'm not a teamplayer, I'm more opportunity oriented - finding CP's to capture, snipers to take out, ambushes to set up, etc..

Realise that no matter what, you don't actually have to do a damn thing your SL says..

If you wanna take a completely backhanded approach to the situation, an SL is just a convenient way to join the war again when you die. That would be reason enough to join a squad.

The key to satisfying your desires and being part of a squad is focusing your actions on a common goal with others.

Here is my 2 cents. If you don't wanna play in a squad... DON'T. That is why they have the lone wolf opption. If you do... then do. I have had bad , good and great squads before. I love being in a squad that works together and can talk to each other. It doesn't matter to me if we are getting our butts kicked. We can talk and have fun. My highest scoring game (155 pts) I ended up playing SL with no other team mates. Not my decision but it worked out great for me. It felt like I was unstoppable. Yes I died many times but it didn't matter. I stayed top of the score board the whole round until I tried to follow orders of the commander. That is when it went down hill. I did finish 3rd highest on that round tho.

My point.... To each his own. Play and have fun. That is all that matters.

Since when is BF2 suppose to be realistic? Squads MAKE Battlefield 2. Squads seperate Battlefield 2 from other games and previous BF games. What is wrong with you?:|:

I like squds mostly because you get to spawn right on the action... (i just leave and join another if the SL just died...) and if i'm a SL wel... there is the big plus and chance that som1 in your squad will spawn on u and help u cap the flag faster... VOIP also makes communication easier... the thing is YOU"RE NOT FORCED TO FOLLOW UR SL ORDERS OR COMANDER's but it would certently help... if i'm comander, i try to see what that squad is doing, and try to give them those orders, and give them close suport when they want(uav somwer else... etc) its really annoying when no squads are present for the comander, since he has important info... like TANK comin from left... or Free TANK AT THEIR MAIN som1 get iT!@*&)@#*!%(&..... i like squads.. but thats my view since i try to make my squad the best that it can be... only times i'm not in a squad is because of the UNABLE TO CREATE A SQUAD bug... :|

                      Re: Squads suck

Well, I just came from another bunch of rounds involving some great teamwork and Battle Coms use. Not sure why some folks seem to have so much trouble fining good squads. Maybe it's because I bounce around until I find some good people to work with 'n stick with 'em.

Anywa, I was suprised by something this time out. My scores were constantly higher than normal! This ususally isn't the case when your playing a combat kit and focusing on a team effort. This time out, I was primatily AT and thanks to my buddies spotting stuff, calling out warnings, and providing health/ammo support, I was able to do A LOT of damage.

Hehe... I'm babbling more than anything. I love that feeling of magic happening in the game.

                        Re: Squads suck

In order to enjoy squads you have to enjoy teamwork, and unfortuanately a lot of gamers don't. To make a squad successful you have to make sacrifices. Sometimes this means kill to death ratios(ie playing as a medic and staying out of the action so you can revive your fallen squad mates). Squads set BF2 apart from other shooters because it allows teamwork to actually take place.

BF2 would just be another shooter without the squads.

Squads are great and all, but medics can make squad-squad warfare tedious and redudant. I was playing on tacticalgamer.com, and it seems like any kills your squad makes at medium-long range are in vain because a medic swoops along and revives the guy ASAP. The real kills in these stand-offs come from artillery.

Its all down to the squad leader. sometimes you get a bad one in which case you don't stay in it. others you get a really good one.

in my eyes - example of a good working squad.
